Are the trucks still painted green and white like they used to be here in the states? I really miss that paint on today's Safeway.
They are all just basic white like the photo :|

Wish they were up here in the east, but I believe Safeway owns Genardi's supermarkets.  They're not too common here in Philadelphia, but some of the outlying suburbs have them.  I'm not sure if they have their own fleet of trucks as I've never seen one, and if they do they probably aren't as nice looking as Safeway's colors.

I understand that Genardi's was purchased by Safeway during 2005.

Here is a photo that I took in January at the Mustang Exit on I-80.

When i was dispatching, one of our consignees was Gen-Oaks Grocery in Oaks, PA. At least that was the name of the distribution arm of Genuardi's. my drivers would tell me that this was one of the best grocery warehouse in which to unload. My drivers didn't touch a case and they had the trailer unloaded in something like 15 minutes. I have never actually seen one of their trucks though. IIRC, their warehouse was right across from the Fleming Foods wasehouse in Oaks.

Notice that the Safeway in Pat's post and the Vons in my post have the same graphic (common ownership)

Here is a Safeway rig I caught out at the Mustang Exit on I-80 yesterday - April 28, 2008. Had the day off and was able to spend some time out along side the highway.

I think it was earlier than that, back around 2001 or 2002.  Regardless, many Philadelphians consider Safeway to have been the ruination of Genuardi's, they lost a lot of customers after the takeover.

That would explain why they're not real big around here anymore. :|

That Prostar looks good!  8-)

Here's a Binder I caught outside our motel in Bozeman, the Royal 7, on my trip last fall... Says Spokane, WA, on the door.
