That's a good question. I don't know. Of the local grocery stores, Safeway is the only one I've noticed using tri-axle trailers. Here's another one from yesterday.

Safeway drivers were the first drivers I meet when I was a new driver. A few became long term friends, everytime I see a Safeway truck I remember these guys and the fun we had running up the Feather River Canyon. I miss them and the old Safeway livery.

Albertsons and Winco also run tri axles out west here

Down here in Reno, the Safeway trailers running out of Tracy, California are all seem to be 2 axle units. Haven't spotted any tri axles yet. I'd guess it's because of the California weight laws?

Ya,  Tri-Axles are not as common there as they are up here in the Northwest. Seems like everyone up here has tri-axles.  One of our dedicated accounts out of Ridgefield, WA is pulling tri-axles now.

The chip bins are the most common tri-axles. Gordon as you know runs alot of them. Hunt runs alot of them. Swift runs alot of them. Its all because of the max weight allowance.

I caught this Safeway truck running westbound at Wadsworth, NV on I-80 back on the 12th of March. Thought I'd post it here in the Grocery thread. Taking photos from my Volvo isn't as easy as the old "Brig."  The mirror gets in the way when shooting out of the driver side window and there is lots more glare on the windshield.

I think that these trucks are out of Tracy, CA

Safeway entered the Australian grocery market in 1963 and dropped the big "S" logo when they were bought by Woolworths supermarket chain in 1985...

Are the trucks still painted green and white like they used to be here in the states? I really miss that paint on today's Safeway.
