Fedex Freight Turnpike Doubles
« on: December 12, 2019, 07:04:46 AM »
Probably been 10 years since I've been on Florida's Turnpike but boy was I happy to catch a piker on my first try. :) The twin screw KW T680 was taking a break at the Port St. Lucie - Ft. Pierce plaza early yesterday morning (12-11-19).

LCV is the current term I believe.
Long Combination Vehicle.
I like that shot very much - is it the rainy season in Florida?
It looks very gloomy.

It was very foggy & it had rained earlier also. A couple of hours later it poured as I was heading to the airport. One day i'd like to drive the length of the Turnpike just to check out the service plazas and catch more LCVs.

I literally had no idea Florida had a turnpike that allowed LCV's. No triples though?

Either way, that's a great shot Charlie.

I like that shot too, great catch Charlie........and turnpike doubles sounds fine be me still. I thought LCV's was a Canadian thing but maybe the term apples internationally now?? Either way, 2 trailers and a truck :)

Thanks Brian & Jim...……….as far as I know triples aren't allowed on Florida's Turnpike. I did catch a couple of other LTL units but they were just regular 28' pups. Walgreens & Frito-Lay run pikers also from what I've seen on YouTube and in Russ Macneal photos.

It's legal in Kansas to pull a 48 with two 28s behind it. Usually it's a Price Trucking 48 with at least one sometimes two ABF trailers going from KC to Wichita.

Always good to see the LCVs!

Both are definitely ex-Watkins vans. I know a couple carriers still run these long doubles down there but the only ones I've seen recently are FedEx Freight and ABF. RIP Wilson.
