Penn's Best - Meshoppen, PA
« on: June 26, 2019, 08:39:41 PM »
Was doing some research for Background info on truck companies earlier and noticed when I searched Penn's Best, It said it was purchased by Napa Transportation. Is that true and when did it happen?  ??? :-\

Spotted this FL Cascadia Bobtailing back in July 2017.

I donít know when that acquisition took place, but I saw a lot of Pennís Best trailers being pulled by NAPA Freightliners when I was in central PA.

Napa's web site says 2017, but doesn't give a date.  It might have been later in the year though as there are some blurb's on the 'net about a property transfer taking place in early '18.

I didn't get many images of Penn's Best before NAPA bought 'em out, but I recall seeing something about NAPA come up when I was researching this shot I posted last week.

Shame they were bought out, NAPA has a few newer tractors that are OK but they don't compare to seeing the classic rigs pulling trailers.

Didn't Penn's Best run Marmon's back in the late '70's/early '80's?

Ray - Lodge Members -

What a puzzle! PENN'S BEST reported as employee owned. About eighty (80) power units, and a
large count of about five hundred (500) trailers. The move to NAPA may report a sales by the
employee owned firm to an "arms length" corporate reality.

This action within past three (3) years? Seems to me, from my NE Maryland base, PENN'S BEST
came thru here to support local accounts. These days, GOOD TRANSPORT appears. Also, as that
named firm crashed a while back, no more VOLPE EXPRESS. Local customer here is a drop point
for dry freight trailers from POTTLES. BTW Also see LANCOR units running thru here. FWIW

Kindly note if any added thoughts. This PENN'S BEST conundrum a bit heavy for a Sunday AM?

 Cash Flow,
I believe you're thinking of East Penn Mfg. They ran Marmons. I think they were actually a Marmon dealer.
