A Whole Bunch Of Truck Stops From Pinterest
« on: May 27, 2019, 07:03:13 AM »
I've been browsing through the Pinterest site and I've found some interesting stuff re trucks & truck stops. A lot of old photos that seem to have been taken from the Hanks Truck Pictures site plus a lot of pics I've not seen before. Some of these truck stop pics may appear in this thread already but it's definitely worth a look.

Some fine photos, but limited identification.  A number of them most likely older than my experience.

True but still fun to look at and think of how different things were back in the day.

Charlie. Just had a quick look at the All American Truckstops Book and it looks like
some of the pictures were taken from that.    Bob.

Sigh....Charlie....you're my age (actually a little bit older  ;D) but didn't they teach ya nuthin in school?
Bananas and grapes come in bunches ...not truck stops.
One of my teachers was adament about bunches....he HATED the use of the word "bunch" for group or collection.

Picture I purchased from Dave Bontrager some years ago.

This was the parking lot at Fortmeiers Truckstop in Fort Wayne Indiana if I recall.

Marvelous Photo of how it was way back then? OK? Let's take a look, with a forensic
mind set? We see: A (presumably) Big Cab, long haul PETR (?), possibly came on or
off a long haul transcon load? Next, two "Farm All" Emeryvilles. This might have been
any large fleet? Then, a milk tanker (local player). Finally, a pair of Mack (?) COE
types.

Now then? See the two pairs of "Farm All", and the (presumably) Mack COE types.
Photo shows us in both instances, one each with single lamp headlights. With
both, the adjacent units with pairs of headlights. Also, in both, the lamps are
mounted a bit lower (account changes in Fed Regs).

So that? Your Photo likely dates to early 1960s era? (A carrier of the period
with its own endless discussions whether to go with the "four lamps" fad.)
There we have it? Coincides with Charlie's work with the Pinterest views?

Wow!!! Now that is classic Rob. :) Don't think I've ever seen a Hennis Furniture Division ruck before but since they were from North Carolina i'm sure they hauled a lot of furniture from the area. The Petercar reminds me of a LoBiondo rig (NJ basd) from that era. 8)

Charlie - All -

How ever did you nail the (most on the right) MACK. Perhaps your writer shud see the eye doctor? Could not make out
signage on trailer! Yes, surely HENNIS carried much new furniture, as did numerous other carriers. We may guess the
line must have been heavy into shipments of smokes, too? In personal experience, the line was heavily into Carolinas -
Central States points (Ex. CLV, AKR, DET, IND, CGO). It not active, IIRC, at BUF (NY). Later, line sold to SPECTOR...

Your reading of the "Lo-B" unit? Where did that all go? May we guess it had the "big trucks" as it committed to much
coast to coast work.(A web search locates a news item about "Lou" LoBianco. Notes his father owned the "Lo-B"
lines. Much as your writer worked the local (BAL) Piers, no recall of ever meeting Father or Son.

The truck with the air conditioner is a Freightliner, not a Pete.
The two "Binders" are from Daily
The rear facing tank is from Wm O'Donell
The first (left) Mack is trip leased to somebody; the door signs are taped on.
The nearest Mack is Hennis Furniture Division.

Look to the upper right of the page, there should be an 'X' you can click to get rid of the login request.  From there you should be able to go where you want.  Works for me.
