The Laidlaw Name starts to Disappear
« on: January 16, 2019, 02:17:05 PM »
Laidlaw was the core acquisition of the company that became Contrans.
Now; Laidlaw's name is disappearing from some of the tractor equipment in favour of Contrans.
This T800 last May - Laidlaw

This T800 today (January 2019)
CONTRANS on the door.

Nooo, Laidlaw always looked cool imo. I'm def. gonna have to make my way up to Canada before Transforce puts that swoosh on everything.

TFI (formerly Transforce) took Contrans several years ago. I read, somewhere on line, that Stan Dunford who had been the controlling shareholder in Contrans was given a 3 year contract by Transforce. That time is up and Dunford's name no longer appears on the website.

That is why the Transforce branding is much stronger now.

Shot this rig on I-80 back in August.  I think it's the only time I've seen the Laidlaw name with the TFI swoosh.

Congrats TFI, you managed to single-handedly ruin a once-proud fleet.

And thanks for the rec Jim. Hopefully I will manage to make it up there sometime this year.

Glen Tay Transportation name is also on the way out. I begin to see Contrans name with the TFI swoosh on Glen Tay tractors
and tankers.

I was looking at the TFI-Contrans website.
It looks to me that Laidlaw VAN is staying Laidlaw.
Laidlaw BULK is  staying with the Laidlaw name.
But, the tank division is operating as Contrans.
This Kenworth also shows the Contrans name on the door.

More to follow.....

Spotted a new Kingsway Cascadia mkII midroof in the white swoosh livery pulling a tanker a few days ago. I have a tractor pic, thanks to the Heavy traffic in my area  :'( :-\

Here is a scan of a PH - Peter Hodge unit from a few years ago.
They have gone to mostly Volvos the last few years.

Their name has disappeared from the TFI / Contrans carrier list and their Milton Ontario terminal is listed as Laidlaw Bulk.

Last year; this B train still showed Laidlaw on the door.

I saw it just the other day and it now shows Contrans.

But to make everything interesting and confusing....THIS one seen Wednesday 9-18 was Laidlaw on the tractor and Laidlaw on the trailer.

Then; seen but no photo since it was going the other way - a Contrans /  Contrans tractor and trailer.
So..who know? who knows?

It was hard to make sense of for me other than knowing that Laidlaw and Contrans fall under the TFI umbrella now, but I saw a ton of what I presume are old grey/red striped Contrans units pulling Laidlaw trailers and vice versa. Still saw plenty of Laidlaw equipment though too, both old and new with the swoosh. Same thing for Contrans too, lots of new Contrans cabs/trailers out there.

Oh yeah and Normandin's classic livery is slowly but surely being replaced, saw several LCV consists with new Normandin trailers that had the swoosh on them.
