Anyone who read Wee Willy's Truckin' Tales would note that these used to be many small truckstops along the narrow two lane roads that crossed the Canadian Shield between Toronto/Montreal and Winnipeg.
Today, there are fewer but they are larger - not as big as something along a major US Intersate but more than a parking area, a fuel pump and a diner.
Here is a picture I found of the Magpie Truck Stop in Wawa on Highway 17.

Apparently the original owner passed away, whoever bought it couldn't make a GO of it and the Township finally seized the property for unpaid taxes.

I think I may have slept their once, waiting for them to open on a Saturday morning. I was hauling oversize, first daylight, no one there for fuel so I left for Nipigon....made it on fumes and finally got my breakfast while they filled both tanks!
Sad all these places go under! It's quite a hike from Sault Ste. Marie to Nipigon.
