Murray 16 Tire Lowboy and KW T800
« on: May 18, 2018, 04:33:06 PM »
Hi everyone- I have not finished a project in a long time, but when I had some time here and there I worked on this. A big thanks to Jim (JJG) for getting me lined up with the right wheels and tires, Steve Nasburg for offering the lowboy and ramp kits, CanaDakota for the nice front float tires, and Dale Horner for doing chrome plating on parts.

I changed the neck of the lowboy to have two threaded studs that fasten it, and added brass plating where the kit seemed to need it. Looking back I wish I would have added some camber to the deck, but when loaded with a D8 (90,000 pounds) sized machine it flexes about the right amount. The 24.5 1/87 rims ended up scaling out to within an inch of actual 17.5's that they run on Murray trailers, and in the end they look "right". The decking is basswood that I aged with 100 grit, a utility blade, and graphite. Just like the real deal the axles slide out as well. With the heavy front steer axle and the tractor wheelbase setup right these can carry 47 ton, so this Komatsu D155AX is a good load.

Wow, that looks great! 8)
The color for the tractor frame and the lowboy is pretty cool, kinda splits the difference between brown and burnt orange.

Thanks for the kind words! The color is a Mopar one I believe.

Looks real good. All that`s missing is some emergency lights and some wide load banners. Keep up the good work. I love 1/64th scale  :)

Thank you- those are on the way! I just got a bit impatient and wanted to get pictures of it. I will build some banner and flag brackets and mount a light bar on the truck in the future.
