'83 Peterbilt 359 seatbelts
« on: January 20, 2018, 08:23:45 AM »
I have an '83 Peterbilt 359 with dual air ride seats and no seat belts. There are anchors at floor level behind both seats but nothing that would support a shoulder belt. Did these truck only come with lap belts? If so, does someone have a picture of what they look like? Are they anchored to the seat with the seat tethered to the floor or does the actual belt go all the way to the floor? Also, where can I find replacements? Any shoulder belt upgrades available? For some reason the web is lacking info here! Any info would be appreciated!

Most seat belts in trucks I drove that had air ride were fastened at the seat bracket. Then another belt went from that bracket to the floor being loose enough to compensate for the movement of the seat.
I'm not sure when the shoulder belt got put into use, but I know it was later than 1987.
           Hope this helps some.

I do not remember seat belts in early 80's trucks ?
I never wore a seat belt in big trucks untill a Maryland Super Trooper pulled me over with lights and siren in about 1997 and gave me a ticket . It cost me 55 bucks and at the time I sure needed that money .

The 1987 model year for the introduction of shoulder belts may be right.  The 984 KW W900 that I have been driving for the last to years during potato harvest has just a lap belt.  The older IH S series that we had in Fort Kent for snow trucks also had lap belts.

And while the lap belt itself was secured to the seat frame, there was a jumper belt between the floor anchorage and the seat frame, similar to today's setups.
