1967-72 CHEVY C/60
« on: November 08, 2017, 12:56:36 AM »
Here is a project that has been on the bench for years now, after the release of the cool "Real Rides"  1972 Chevy C/10 short box fleet side, I made a mold of one to work with it. My son Jamie started it back then but he moved onto bigger and real vehicles so while waiting for the CAT molds to get ready, I opened the project up. Here are the fenders coming into place.

the modified hood has a flat face instead of slightly pointed from the C/10

the grille is dialed in with headlights from the R model Mack turned sideways, they need the parking/signal lamp detail yet.

Thanks Rick!

A lot of subtle changes have been made to the casting, on the original die cast the upper door window frame is not present or the vent window frame so that has been added, a small rear window replaces the full size pickup cab window and parking/signal lamps have been added along with a scratch built bumper, hard to see in the raw plastic

The original interior and windows are mocked up so the pickup donor will be required to complete this casting. It is ready for a primer coat to see what we have!

First primer application

body work as needed

I decided to go with the cab back detail as my plan for the Chevy will be a tractor. I almost didn't but then I would regret that smooth back of cab

Ready for 2nd primer coat.

That looks great!  I like the cab back detail.  It'd make for a nice flatbed straight truck too.

Thanks Matt!

The master is ready for the mold dept. Here it is after much sanding,  more primer and a base colour coat for the final inspection. It is mocked up on an Athearn F850 chassis with the pickups interior and glass.

and one more look

Oops!! I just noticed I forgot to put the door handles back on!!

Out of the mold, this casting is prepped and given a coat of authentic GM Truck code 503 green and frost white.

it needs a little touch up on the grille if I use this casting.

A little more progress here, the interior of the pickup is detailed, Athearn chassis modified to a single axle  tractor chassis, Lindberg 5 spoke front wheels and Lonestar 5 spoke rear on Athearn tries. Air horns are from Promotex/Herpa, 1/4 fenders semi scratch built.

Not sure what trailer to put on yet but this is a Trucks N Stuff single axle propped up.

This is not a 67 as the only outward difference between the first year production was the side marker light was not mandated yet. For a 67, I would just file the marker light off and away you go.

Thanks Wreckerman!

The windshield wipers are from A-Line, hooked into an Athearn 40' exterior post van straight out of the box

and another look with the wipers

Thanks Rick!

I just got this trailer in from Walther's 40' Trailmobile (American) that is of similar vintage, painted it up, straight out of the box only adding mudflaps. Overall, nice job on the trailer, wheels are a bit weak but that is an easy fix!
