Canadian Freightways->Pederson->TST Overland->Canadian Freightways

TransForce is doing it again.  This time they are shutting down TST Overland in Lethbridge, but they are bringing back Canadian Freightways.
Canadian Freightways started in Lethbridge way back when, and they are getting their own terminal back.  But even if I like this part, I don't like what TransForce is doing to the ex-Pederson ex TST staff.  Another layoff, another saving for the mother corp?  What happens to the long term employees? screwed like the ones from Canadian Freightways that were layed of a few years ago?

A number of guys from TST must have left already.  We are getting all their out of town LTL freight.  Already did 5 hours overtime this week, and Monday was a holiday.

And to top it all of, when I came back today I thought my truck was smelling hot, great.  We'll check it out in the morning, it's late already.

Then I did something different than usual, instead of going straight to the office to finish my paperwork, I turned the other way and went to my car.  I'd just park my car in front of the office and leave from there later.  As I turned the corner on the way to the car the hot smell got stronger, I decided it was not my truck then, good.  Then I saw the smoke coming out from under the hood of a vender truck parked at our terminal.  Dropped my stuff, called the boss and went for the fire extinguisher out of my truck.  It took 3 extinguishers, but we saved the truck.  Although it probably needs some repairs.

More developments at the Lethbridge TransForce Terminal:  Loomis is moving in.

After Pedersen moved to the CF terminal a few years back, Loomis moved into the Pedersen terminal.  This building is sold now and Loomis new home will be with all the other TFI companies represented in Lethbridge.

These are:
Canadian Freightways (10 dock doors)
TForce Integrated Solutions (ATS) (4 dock doors)
ICS (1 dock door)
Loomis Express (also includes Canpar) (5 dock doors)

Final Configuration, Loomis complained:
Canadian Freightways (10 dock doors)
TForce Integrated Solutions (ATS) (2 dock doors)
Loomis Express (also includes Canpar) (8 dock doors)
ICS shares with ATS and Loomis, they don't need much.

Loomis? I know that is the name they assigned to the Canadian operations of DHL when they took them over.
ICS? That was a courier service who specialized in serving the insurance companies.
Both were local Toronto courier companies back in the 70's and 80's.
CanPar traces it's heritage back to Canadian Pacific Railway Express.
They have given up on the Overland Express name in Alberta?
Transforce - they keep changing company names around.

Final Configuration, Loomis complained:
Canadian Freightways (10 dock doors)
TForce Integrated Solutions (ATS) (2 dock doors)
Loomis Express (also includes Canpar) (8 dock doors)
ICS shares with ATS and Loomis, they don't need much.

Loomis have been under Canadian ownership until 1979 when it was bought by  Mayne Nickless, a huge Australian transport group. Twenty years later, in 2002, DHL bought the Canadian operations of Mayne Nickless and renamed Loomis as DHL Express. In 2011 when DHL sold its Canadian domestic express operations to Transforce the right for the new owner to use
Loomis trademark was part of the deal.
