Stirring old memories.

It was August of 1974 when I had a chance meeting with him,
while on a Family vacation
A personal, one on one, hour or so with Evel himself.
(My Dad had to come get me so as to not be too much of a bother, :))
This is the rig he had and it was somewhat of a time capsule/museum
set up inside.
He was very relaxed and patient.
I was a star-struck, wide eyed 11 yr old, tripping on my tongue.

Thank you for taking the time to go and get these pictures and posting them.

It was Definently Really Cool to see up Close, Especially for me since I was a huge fan of Robbie Knievel when he used to jump. I wasnt born until the 80s so I Kinda Missed out on seeing Evel Himself Jumping stuff. Plus, I heard awhile back that it is supposed to be Leaving the Museum and heading to its new Permanant Home in Montana, I Believe at the End of this Month. Thats why I Knew this past weekend was going to be my only chance, so Im glad a few things worked out in my favor  8)

I had a beer once with Robbie after a jump I went to watch in Michigan. We sat talking and comparing the mods we both made to our CR500 Honda dirt bikes. He was pretty cool.

Rob and I received these pictures this weekend from Mike Draper, who use to drive for Evel Knievel.

Here is what Mike Draper had to say:

Quote
Hi i ran across your website and noticed all of the older blogs on your forum inquiring about Evel's truck being restored.
The truck did not get through restoration in New jersey. It was purchased by a Lathan Mckay and Mike Patterson of  Historic Harley Davidson of Topeka Kansas.  They totally restored the truck with a frame-off resto.  Here are some of the pictures of it.
It will be in Historic Harley Davidson new Museum that should be done by Jan 1st. 2017.

I use to drive for him in the 70's.

I've got a question regarding Evel's rig.  BTW, Lathan and I are friends on FB.  But, here's my question:

At one point, the "truck" part of Evel's rig was a Kenworth - not a Mack.  At which point did he switch from using the Kenworth to the Mack cab?

"When you get that damn dog in the truck, you can put the pedal to the metal because that smokey will have passed you by!" - Said (para-phrased, I'm sure by me) by Burt Reynolds in the television version of "Smokey & The Bandit" - 1977!

This Article from Overdrive explains what happened to the KW  :o :-\

Here is a Pic of that KW as well.

(Not my Photo)

Thank you for that article, Ray.  That KW rig is the one I remember most in footage I've seen since I've been a Knievel fan since 1989 - and I always wondered what happened to that particular cab.  Thanks for bringing me up to speed - and.....IT'S GREAT TO HAVE THE FORUM BACK!!!
