Old Paystar 5000
« on: February 04, 2016, 06:39:01 PM »
Posted for Paystar...

My neighbor has this old Paystar 5000 on one of his bush lots. I never
thought to check the year, but it has been around forever.
I'm pretty sure this is the same one that Weyerhaeuser, then Lajambe
Lumber had in the Sault and Heyden, Ontario. If not, I know they also
had one like this.
This one was then used in the Algoma Central (now owned by CN) train
yard in the Sault. I'll get a better look when my neighbor is around.
I think it has a Cummins in it, because when I have seen it running in
the past it didn't sound like a Detroit.

I wonder what the A/C did with this truck.
It doesn't seem to be a railway hi-rail at all.
Maybe the question might be...Why are there Algoma Central decals on the door of a logging truck?

You are both right. They used it for ties around the yard and they also off load logs from trucks and reload rail cars here in the Sault. A lot of our logs get shipped Stateside.

The guy that has it now has been using it for scrap. That lot had a lot of old Cat and IH dozers and other trucks and equipment, that sadly all got sent for scrap a couple years ago when the prices were high.
