Retired Highway Department White
« on: December 07, 2015, 02:16:36 AM »
This is an old White Road Commander that used to belong to the Randolph County Highway Department in Southern Illinois, I don't really know any of the technical specs on it other than it had a tach-o-graph lol.  When this truck was retired the man who drove it hauled it off and it was parked on an empty lot that was later used for his son's trucking company (the R&M transportation Mack I posted in the truck of the month photos in May of 2013 is this company).  When I took this picture it was parked out back of the shop that his son also owns and runs a towing service out of.  It was replaced by an International 4300 which they surprisingly still use today.  These pictures were taken a couple of years ago, and this truck is no longer there.  I'm guessing it was probably hauled off for scrap, hard to say.

Many years ago I worked for a freight outfit that had 2 of these. They were not the mechanics favorites. I remember them removing the WHITE letters from them and writing JUNKS in there place.

I remember Red Star Express out of Auburn, N.Y. had a ton of those pulling highway doubles on the N.Y.S. Thruway back in the 60`s and 70`s.
