2009 STERLING AND GMC FIRE TRUCKS
« on: April 03, 2015, 02:30:43 PM »
I have had several versions of fire trucks apparatus, Boley, Athearn and more misc. parts left over; I decided to make a few of the rural style trucks often found in small towns. They are more favorable to me then the latest and greatest "shoebox" style trucks although I'm sure when it comes time to put the fire out, the latter will likely out perform!
Here are the 2 bodies, a tanker from Boley and a KME pumper from Athearn

and here is a GMC Topkick, the last year produced was 2009 so we'll go with that. These are challenging as they have a decal for the grille so to do a colour change is not an option, finding one in yellow is the best start, mask the grille, paint the new yellow, de-mask grille and clear coat. The colour difference  shows up more in the picture then actual........really ::)

and here is the resin cast Sterling LT8500 that will house the Boley tanker.

Now to select wheels tires and all the goodies for this pair.

Here is the GMC Topkick mounted on an Athearn C cab chassis with the Athearn 5 hole steel wheels, Boley fuel tank and battery box

and the Sterling rides on a Boley chassis, scratch built fuel tank on Drivers side with resin cast battery box on RH side. It is going to get the A-Line 2 hole steel wheels treatment

You're right Charlie, I have been on there checking as he posts, if you can't get get inspireed there, you never will ::)

Jim, I do not have fire background, my son does a little work on the breathing air equipment (on some trucks) but........my aging fleet of fire trucks is shameful, and an old 1965 F850 Ford, a  1978 C canopy Ford and a 1987 Chevy C30 Fire/Rescue unit for my small town. Time to update or burn!!

Another 4 years (almost) went by?? At least one of these gets going again. The Topkick, re-assembled interior painted dark grey, chrome bumper and baby moons via the Molotow Chrome pen, wheels detailed, detail items re-attached to the pumper body, decals applied from a Mircro-Scale set and one is off to go into service!!

Now, onto the Sterling..............someday.......
