ABF ribbed-side trailer (tridem)
« on: March 09, 2014, 09:28:06 AM »
ABF unit nr. 51683. A 45ft trailer with a sliding tridem. By the yellow sticker, it's a modified trailer... (pic taken in the LA area, late 90s)

PS: @ John B. Let me know if this is the right place for this. If not, I can move the pics. (let me know where...)

Great shots! A lot of those tridems have had the tridem removed, a tandem installed, renumbered and relegated to P$D service.
The sticker denoting the modification was to indicate that the tridem had been bolted into the "full rear" location and the safety legs pn the rear sides have been removed.
And yes, this thread should be moved to the "LTL Trailer" section.

Very cool catch!  I miss seeing these.
The foot turned to the horse, the horse to the carriage, the carriage to the train, and the train to the truck.

I would love to see one of these at some point in my career before they are all gone! Excellent find

I think at this point, they ARE all gone...

There is one in the truck yard south of Gardner, Kansas on I-35 that has been documented here previously.  It looks intact.

I think I have seen a few of these tridems in Zanesville, Ohio at the ABF terminal there. I think they were even ragtop trailers at that, but it was years ago.
