Well its about time for an intermodal dedicated forum  :-P :-D

Anyways for those that might not know, the popular railroad trade magazine, Trains, published by Kalmbach Publishing has been running a 2 part series on the Chinese impact in terms of intermodal and the effect it has on the railroading industry, specifically here in the states.  Started in the August issue and has just finished with the September issue.  The last issue which is now out on newstands, is dedicated to the flow in and out of the S. CA ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles which made for an interesting read.

Interesting fact according to the magazine:

In 2005 LA and Long Beach combined handled 14.2 million TEU's which ranked it as the 5th largest port in the world, behind Singapore (23.2), Hong Kong (22.4), Shanghai (19.1) and Shenzhen, China (16.2).   Noting the locations, shows that China is a huge global player for the good or the bad depending on who you talk to.

And as with every issue, the sneak peak for next months issue shows of an article on the Kansas City Southern and the Meridian Speedway in its attempt at getting Pacific port traffic from Mexico.  As always it should be an interesting read.
