Canadian Freightways drivers in Lethbridge layed off.
« on: May 17, 2013, 02:29:23 PM »
Canadian Freightways has layed off their drivers in Lethbridge, effective June 21, Pedersen Transport will be moving into the terminal as the agent for Canadian Freightways and handle all the freight.
This is especially sad as Lethbridge was the birthplace of Canadian freightways.

1930's
In 1935, Chris Mikkelsen began what would later become Canadian Freightways with the purchase of a year-old Pontiac truck. Based in Lethbridge, and operating under the name Chris Transport, this one man, one truck operation began operating between Lethbridge and Coutts, Alberta.

In 1938, Chris Mikkelsen saw an opportunity for change, and he contacted U.S. based Consolidated Freight Lines to establish an interline partnership.

1940's
In 1940, Chris Transport expanded to operate between Regina and Lethbridge, and the company was renamed "Canadian Freightways"

Looking at what they have done in Quebec with dozen of  their acquisitions they have closed, Transforce  decision are only business oriented,  often make only for  short time and without any respect for history.

Business is business, but that is pretty unfortunate for the CF guys there. I wonder if any of them can transition over to Pederson.

That is always sad! Seems like take overs and so called progress always without fail causes lay offs and hardships.

And then they were gone.....

It was the last day of Canadian Freightways in its birthplace, Lethbridge, Alberta.
Now everything that belonged to them has been shipped off to CF in Calgary.  Pedersen Transport spend their day moving their trailers into the yard.  I recon they will use the weekend to move all their belongings into the building.

Their manager had great plans, painting the building Pedersens trademark blue colour, but thankfully Transforce nixed that idea.  After all, the building belongs to Transforce, not Pedersens, I hope they don't forget that, or they might get a rude awakening.  There are two other Transforce companies in the building that also need room, both inside and out.
