Heads Up on ABF
« on: March 27, 2012, 12:10:51 AM »
In about a month I'll be starting an ABF trailer roster. First going with pups, then going with the system vans. If anyone would like to help, I'd sure appreciate it. What I need is a 3/4 shot of the unit, then another one of the builder's plate. I've enlisted one list member's help so far. After collecting about 50 to 100 pairs of photos I'll then start listing them here in a thread.

An example of what I need right now for this project:

Thanks!

I've pretty much just started taking numbers off of all of the LTL companies by this point. ;) I'll see if I can help you out with ABF, I do have a shot or two of trailers.

Greg,

At this point, until we get a good base of 50 to 100 trailers, I think I need a shot of the trailer as well as a shot of the trailer's builders date. So, if you happen to find one of these dropped on a street or spotted at a dock, please take both shots.

After I put together a good short list of dates, then we can begin to add the numbers from trailers without builder's plate photo.

Looking forward to your help!

Jimmy B

So they are going with the skirts on a rail pig setup, too? Reminds me of the FedEx Multimodal trailers (what ever happened to them anyway, they were around for a while then I stopped seeing them).

I think  I snapped this photo last year, and yes, you're right, I haven't seen this look for a long time. This trailer is on a BNSF train at Willow Springs, entering the facility.

I think you also said something about the FedEx Multimodal trailers. I see TONS of those here, at this location.

This place might be a good place to find ABF trailers!

85105: Great Dane - 01/06

86320: Great Dane - 07/06

Is this on all of ABF's trailers?

Concerning "rail pig" service, I heard decades ago that sitting/shaking/jerking around in one place, without rotating, flattens out a surface on the wheel bearings, which later unhappily shows up if the pig trailer is put in long-haul road service.

Anybody know?

I wonder if you might get more responses to the question in the Nuts & Bolts section of the forum NHRS. More people would be more likely to see it if it had its own thread there.
