Southbound I-81 (and Detour)- Part 2
« on: August 23, 2011, 07:54:36 PM »
We ventured further south into Virginia on our way to Tennessee and unfortunately got detoured due to "blasting" on the southbound side of I-81. There were some neat trucks and trailers along the back road but most of them are not in this post.
This Mack was one of the rigs I saw on the back road.

  • Marvin Windows International 9400.
  • Western Starcar with a reefer.
  • That's a very noticeable wrecker with a "client."
  • Another Western Star hauling a big load.
  • Peterbilt with a full load of pipes.

Freightliner Casacadia's in transit. A lot of dealer's seem to be hauling their trucks like this these days.

  • Freightliner Columbia with a reefer.
  • Freightliner Classic XL with a step-deck with a full load.
  • Howl Transportation Kenworth T-660.
  • Freightliner Classic with a curtain-side.
  • Freightliner FLD sporting a Texas bumper and a stepdeck.

Nice finds!

The Bradco Supply Mack CH has a tough look to it. I also like the new Cascadias and the Howl T660. I imagine hauling the Cascadias in the manner you found makes more sense since you don't have to disassemble the real axle for transport.

You also don't have to hire a wrecker to lift up the tractor onto the fifth wheel.

Some big dealers and up-fitters have stationary overhead cranes that they use for un-decking.

Those condos would probably be over height if they were saddlebacked.
