Hey guys -
Even though my truck is not an original from the show, I do consider it a privilege to own a classic 1984 Kenworth K100 Aerodyne painted as a 'BJ and the Bear' replica.
Paul's dad Craig told me I wouldn't believe the amount of folks who would come up to me and ask me about it, and especially wouldn't believe the amount of chatter it would stir up on the C.B.
He was absolutely correct on both counts.
I thought I was one of very few people who was really into the old t.v. show, or even remembered it - I guess I couldn't have been more wrong.
I spent my early formative years watching the adventures of BJ and that big red and white truck, and wondering how he was so lucky to have all these beautiful women around all the time. Then I'd go with my grandpa to deliver steel in an old R model Mack to NYC, and I'd wonder where BJ was (and all those hot women!) My grandfather probably got sick and tired of me asking those questions time and time again, but he never said anything other than, "Keep your eyes peeled!"
The biggest thrill for me was to watch people looking at the Sagehorn's original restored BJ and the Bear truck at the Waupun, Wisconsin truck show last summer. That was when it hit me that a lot more people than I thought remember the show, and it was great to talk with all of them.
I'm setting up to run the truck so it pays for itself (and hopefully, provides some income) - whether I lease on with someone or run under my own authority is yet to be seen. It's going to need paint, maintenance, an interior eventually...and who knows what else.
But the biggest payoff is meeting and talking with people who have a love for older trucks and the BJ and the Bear show. To me, that makes it all worth it. Looking forward to meeting some of you at the shows this summer.
Oh, as far as the Macungie show - that is going to depend on whether we leave for the annual family Wildwood vacation on the 20th or the 21st....
