My father delivered in there when he was with New Century.  He has been driving for over 30years and it was a first for him!  He was impressed.  Pat, did you have to slide your tandems all the way forward to make those tight turns?

Raf, I don't have anymore info, but there are warehouse caves in Kansas City, Independence, and Carthage Missouri as far as I know.

I was in the KC caves. Subtropolis. I can't wait to go back!Carthage is down south, and Independence is right next to Kansas City  8-)

The caves in Carthage MO to my knowledge are 100% refrigerated product.  I've been there 3 times when I was driving for Marten Transport.  I've also been to the 8600 Underground Drive ones.  The KC caves that Pat went to are much worse as far as getting around.  Lots of twists and turns.  I am going to guess that the KC caves were designed/developed first.  The pillars are all over random.  The pillars in Carthage are all in a straight line to each other both front/back and side/side.  Getting in and out of Carthage is a breeze.  They do pose a challenge if you have to back in close to a pillar but other than that, Carthage is wide open.  I have delivered and picked up at Carthage, good ol' Schrieber Cheese.

The caves in Kansas City have a variety of things.  I was told that the US Post Office has one heck of a warehouse in there for all of their Stamps.  There are also a few Records management companies there.  The temperature stays a constant 55* or somewhere around there.  The fleet I manage now (I'm now in the office vs. driving) picks up 100% for Wal-mart shippers and we are in 8600 Underground about 4 times a month.  There is a company in there called Kendall King that I believe makes the cardboard/paper backing that gift cards are stuck to.  A friend of mine back in Boston works for a company that manufactures gift cards and they ship INTO Kendall King all the time.  Our loads go from Kendall King to Wal-mart DC's, usually down to Bentonville.

That is all I can think of to add. :)

Pat, what was the shipper you loaded at down in there?

I know you find a lot of government facilities in the caves. I've sent quite a few loads of government printing into the caves.
