C a b o v e r s... Because We Love Them!
« on: September 14, 2008, 08:03:22 PM »
These outdated machines simply refuse to die. Well, it is not t h a t simple - apparently, decades ago humans were able to build long-lasting trucks. After years of incredible progress in science and all - human race developed a way to produce short-living, disposable trucks. Problem is, some of the old truckers didn't notice that... and keep on trucking... so as today - looks like only gov's EPA can save the planet from them. Before they do, stubborn O/O - Knights from different time dimension still moving the freight with their classy, undestructible iron. Which blows my mind, of course.

Here is a choice of working K100's just from last few weeks... The most stylisticly refined and most famous cabover in my opinion...

Beautiful set, I love that first picture of the blue one with the cows.

That's a great classic paint scheme on the brown and orange on in the middle, it's a shame his visor fell over.

Reminded me a little of the IT scheme - had to do a double take.

IT didn't really have any one scheme, just the green and yellow colors.  You're right though in that it was a common look back.

Great shots. I especially like #1 and #5. Like going back to the late '70's and early '80's again. I also thought of IT when I saw #5 by the way.

Thanks for nice comments guys!

Thats right! My favourite too, very high on my Incredible Trucks List. IMO this guy managed to build (or re-build) much  nicer and still more aerodynamic rig then... Kenworth itself. Just look at todays COE's based on DAF's XF and CF - boxy and totally unisnpired... Single O/O vs. top truck maker and... he wins! How can you not admire tough truckers like that!

Of course, being the  owner of an old '70 Transtar cabover, I am partial to the old ones. But I kind of like that Red "Kenworth" that Art posted. Kind of got a modern-day Crackerbox look IMO. By the way is that available in the U.S.???

Art thanks for posting these great photo's. I was lucky enough to spent time with my old friend Mr. Kenworth including a plain white K-100 like the middle bottom row. Drove it for awhile in early 90's. T-600 and T-800's after that.

No, I've seen few similiar trucks (two tone painting and all) to his, not him though

Sounds like hard-core KW enthusiast :-) What do you remember the most from these days when driving the K-100 ?

Art, the K-100 we used was actually on short term lease to us. I do not remember the lease company, could have been General, tractor was all white. We started to use Ideal lease in 92, and went to Paclease in 97. Those were long term leases. I do remember that it was a big bunk and going down the road it was like looking over a cliff. Good running truck with enough power for the company loads I hauled. I think we used it for a couple of months. Used some 9670's then also, I liked it better than them. Always have had a soft spot for cabovers.
