I saw a new 386 Peterbilt!!

Howdy,

Monday I saw a new 386 Peterbilt with a 48 inch standup sleeper and full aero package at the Portland dealership. These trucks? look good on the website and they even look even better in real life!!!? I have to say? on the outside this truck looked like a revamped 377 SBFA, but when I opened the hood I saw that the front end of the frame looked nothing like the front end of the old 377 frame. It looks like a lot of engineering work went into developing the front end of this truck. I am sure this is to create more room for the bigger cooling systems required by the new ?clean? engines.

These new 386?s make a very nice aerodynamic alternative to the Centuries, 387?s,T2000s etc.?As much as I like these 386?s? I will have to maintain that the T600 is still my favorite current production aerodynamic truck.

I saw one this week down in Utah.  It was also red (didn't notice the sleeper size) and was decked up behind a couple other trucks.  They are not a bad looking truck that's for sure.

P.S.  Yes I still work for Cliff.  I might make it out to I-5 once in a while with my new truck (four axle T800)

I guess I will have to see em in person to get a better look at them.  Truckers News did a review of one not too recently.  Personally I'd still like to see an option to have the exhaust up by the cab, but thats alright.  Its nice to know that at least someone is still willing to build a truck where the sleeper and cab arent all one unit.

Personally as of now and without seeing one up close, I still like the 387 better.  Only time will tell when there are options as in chrome and lights for the 386.  Would be kinda neat to see a dressed up one.

By the way theres a new 386 at Doonan Truck in Wichita, KS listed on Truckpaper.com

It is a nice balance of aerodynamics and a classic look, which is what I've always liked about the KW T-800.

I don't think it will be long before you see a less aerodynamic (but better looking imo) version with side mounted stacks and exposed tanks.

There is a daycab 386 on the Truckpaper now.  It looks pretty good with the pipes up by the doors.  I've seen a few 387's all fixed up so I think it will only be a matter of time before and O/O dresses up a 386.

This morning I checked the truck paper and I see there is now a 386 listed that has the 70in sleeper.?

I just saw the 386 daycab that Brad mentioned.  Yes it does look good with cab mounted exhaust.  Personally and like I said before I have yet to see one in person, but I kinda like the daycab version better.  Be a nice addition to any fleet thats using the 386 sleeper trucks or the 387.

Its no 379, but for an aero truck its very nice.

Not to be the jerk of the group. But i hate it. Looks liken a toy. Just ugly, just ugly. I wouldnt want to be seen in one. But thats me. I still like the Freightliner c120. I think they look good flying down the highway. Nice and dirty, how a truck should look. Well one like that.

They are low. I also dont like how the finders slope so much. Just doesnt look like Peterbilts style. But i will say they make a good truck. No matter what it looks like.

Here's one with the stacks on the side. I'm still undecided on if I like the new front end, I can't help but think it would look nicer with a chrome bumper.

I like the looks of that gray one.  It does make a huge difference to have the pipes by the doors.  I don't mind the bumper so much, but I think it would look good with a chrome one, too.

Though it doesn't look bad, I can't catch up to the concept. Taking the classic cab & adding this round japanese plastic look to it just doesn't make sense to me. If I wan'a go for the modern look I can take 387 & have a spacious modern cab with it.

The Freightliner concept of building modern cabs with a classic look makes a lot more sense to me for everyday business, though nothing can match an old KW 900 or 379 Pete.

Another "ant-eater". Sorry guys but I just can't get used to this look. I think it and all the other brands that look similar are just downright ugly. I'm just an old-timer? I guess. I saw Peterbilts, Kenworths, and Freightliners evolve through the 50's into the 70's becoming? what I thought were just fantastic looking rigs. They looked like trucks, not toys. The basic design prevailed until all this aerodynamic styling took over....i know...I know...we need to conserve fuel. But everything on the road looks alike today. Heck, anymore, I can't even tell one from the other half the time...and I spent my life looking at trucks cause I love em so much. Again, sorry...but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
