I saw my first new ECM Cascadia just a few hours ago. I was surprised since Pitt Ohio an ECM have been running the same daycab equipment for the past few years and Iíve seen no evidence of Pitt getting more Freightliners. As was mentioned, the short hoods on the Cascadia are a joke. If it werenít for the spot mirrors you wouldnít be able to see the hood from the driverís seat.

Seriously If that hood gets any shorter, whats the point having a hood at all? Just get a COE.
Seriously, it may as well be. A COE would offer a better turning radius, better visibility, and would have easier access to the engine with the cab tilting (only issue with that is having to secure all of your stuff down). These short-nosed tractors have the engines shoehorned under the hood, which makes serviceability more difficult. I have heard serviceability on the standard hood new Cascadia is much improved, as that was a major gripe with the older one, but with a small area to fit everything in, that kind of gets compromised with the shorter BBC tractor.
To me, a newer, efficient and much better riding European COE like a Volvo FM or DAF CF would make sense for a regional LTL fleet like this. They have gained favor in the Australian and NZ markets, unfortunately not so here. I'm not saying it's a 100% solution, but I feel like it would be a bit more logical for fleets, especially if the LTL sector adopts the double 33 foot trailers they are trying to implement.

Was finally able to get a shot of the new sleeper tractors at Fyda Freightliner in Canonsburg PA last Saturday.  Haven't seen any on the road yet though.

This 579 was taken on Thanksgiving, parked by the shop of the new HQ terminal they share with parent company Pitt Ohio on the northeast side of Pittsburgh.

One of the better looking Anthems I've seen..........but I don't know if that's saying much. :( Still not sold on their looks. :-\

In addition to the cost savings, the black bumper guard was likely chosen because it's less conspicuous. I've hit 8 deer with Pitt Ohio trucks and when I questioned about having the guards added to our fleet I was told they were "too aggressive looking". Our Anthem hit a deer in it's 3rd week of service and I was told the repair bill was in the $10K range. Things that make you go hmm...BTW, with no replacement bumpers available for the Anthem, a donor the donor was another Anthem that was on the factory or dealer lot.

Funny story today up in Edison NJ. Came upon an ECM FL Cascadia Mk II waiting to make a pickup at a warehouse. Seems the shipper uses Pitt-Ohio and wouldn't take the drivers word that ECM & Pitt-Ohio were connected when he showed up...ÖÖ.even though he had all the correct numbers & info. He'd been sitting about an hour waiting for the woman to verify it. I told him i'd show her this thread on Hank's if it would help & he laughed.  ;D About an hour later I saw him leaving the industrial park so I guess the problem got solved.

Sending the ECM without any notification (if that's what happened) seems like an odd thing to do.

I can't believe it's been almost a year since I posted that Anthem.  I don't think I've seen another one since.

That is interesting that the shipper didnít know which carrier was making the pickup. My understanding is that the call can be made to either company, then the size of the shipment and truck availability determines who gets the shipment. I think most shippers who use Pitt Ohio/ECM regularly know which one to call directly, but for those who donít I would a assume the intention is to communicate this with the customer. Maybe that was overlooked in this case.

I don't really see ECM down here like that, but I'm pretty sure I've seen at least one or two new Anthems for Pitt Ohio. Can't remember who's got what nowadays because so many companies have bought Anthems.
