I wonder if there is limited and/or expensive parts support for this model of Volvo?

It was a pretty common model, but Volvo parts are expensive.  Virginia-based LTL Wilson Trucking used to have a large fleet of these as P&D trucks and tractors.  A friend of mine works for Wilson, and according to him the Volvo F and FE series were great trucks as long as they were running but expensive to repair when they broke down.

Volvo later quit the non-refuse LCF market, the FE models were premium models in a very price-sensitive segment.

I've caught two and have seen many more. This is one of the nicer ones delivering to my campus.  :-)

Other than some smashed front ends and a busted part of the grille, it's a very clean and reliable looking truck.

Yes, but even with those "wounds", it still looks almost in show condition compared to the one in Charlie's pic!  :-)

What kind of power did these rigs have in the US? Anyone?  :?

The FE6 and 7 were powered by 6 and 7 liter Volvo engines.  For a few years the Cat 3126 was optional, but when the VN was introduced Volvo dropped Cat from their engine offerings.

Ah, it came both as FE6 and FE7 with that same cab, then? Interesting. Most of the 7 liter versions of course had a different cab in Europe, but there was one version called the FS7 which I guess might have been the one they based the FE7 off of, then. Interesting also about the Cat engine, I never knew that.  :-)

The US Postal Service bought several thousand of them with Cat power.

Volvo making a delivery to the Manchester NJ Wawa store this morning. This FE series truck is out of the Asbury Park plant about 25 or so miles north.

I wish I could see the rear of that trailer.  There is something about it that tells me it has a pintle hook.

Even though I am a Pepsi fan (Diet Pepsi), that is a real nice photo!
