Title: Shifting Problem on 62 Ford C-Cab Fire Truck
Post by: danpeanuts on February 08, 2019, 08:19:52 AM
Just got a 62 Ford Fire Engine and it will only shift into Reverse, First and Second with the clutch.  All the other forward gears won't work unless I match the speed of the engine and force them in without the clutch.  Does anyone know what to do to make this thing shift right?  Picture:  (http://i63.tinypic.com/240xehj.jpg)  or  tinypic.com/r/24/Oxehj/9

C and H series Ford's had hydraulic clutches. Low gears tend to be a little forgiving about clutch actuation and shifting. Clutch may need bled.

Otherwise, forks, keys or bearings may be going out in transmission.

Unless you're trying to shift it like a synchronized manual and just flooring thr clutch. Era and GVW of fire truck, 99% likely a crash-box.

              Guessin it's a 4 speed?
...1st and 2nd r not synchro. :-\...3rd and 4th r. :o....so I'd think that wood b place 2 start. ;D...blocker rings outta spec, worn out? fluid level? condition? could b culprit. >:(...b certain the clutch plate is fully disengaging(hydraulic)...the shift linkage on those units is a fine piece of engineering. :-\...like a stick inna mud hole. ;D...Jim. ;).

Thanks, guys, for the help.  I really appreciate it.  Going to have my son check these things out. :)
