Title: Searching For Photos for Nostalgia Companies and Others!
Post by: freightwaves on November 19, 2018, 09:08:09 AM
Hello!

My name is Morgan, and I am currently conducting research for my employer. I am researching several (seventy!) companies that are now defunct or have been absorbed by other companies. I have reached the point in my research where I need additional information as I cannot find enough information via the internet as the companies went under previous to the Internet Age, or I need images of these companies when they were in their prime.

I am looking for images from the following companies, especially vintage images!

Abilene Motor Express
Arkansas Motor Freight
Arrow
Associated Transport
Barr Nunn
BAX Global
Birmingham Nashville Express
Builder's Transport
Burlington Motor Carriers
Burlington Northern Intermodal Expedited
Campbell Express (Humping to Please!)
Carolina Freight Carriers
Conway Central Xpress
Central Freight Lines
CF Freight
Chi Express
Con Way
CX Roberson
Direct System Freight
Direct Transit Inc
Dixieland Express
Donnelly
Emery Worldwide
Florida Freightways
Frozen Foods Express
G.O.D
T.I.P (A GE Capital Company)
Indianhead
Interstate Distrubutor
J-Mar Trucking
Jevic Transportation
Keystone Freight
Landstar Ligon
Lee Way Motor
Longistics
Lynden International
Maersk
Martin Brower
Mason Dixon
McClendon
McLean Trucking
MS Carriers
Mushroom Transportation
Navajo Freigt
Overnite
Pennsylvania Truck Train
PIE Nationwide
Preston 151
Quality Carriers
Ryder
South Eastern Express
Schneider
Shaw
Smith Transportation (all I know about this one is that it had red doubles trailers)
Southwest Motor Freight
Timely Transportation
TMT Crowley
TNT Red Star
Towne Air Freight
Transus Freight
TRL (from Sea to Shining Sea)
USF Red Star
US Xpress
Watkins Motor Lines
Watkins Shepherd
Yellow Freight

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I am a one woman research team on this project and I am having a time of it running around finding photos and asking for permission to use them! You would of course receive credit for the photos!

You might go to Hank`s truck pictures. There are lots of pics there. As for permission, I don`t know how to do that.

Tons of photos of trucks belonging to most of these companies on Hanks Truck Pictures as mentioned. Try the Russ MacNeal, Chris Sissick & Gary Morton Collections for starters as their photos go back to the 1960's & 1970's. As for permission you'd have to contact each individual for his ok. Good luck in your search.....sounds difficult but exciting too.

I'll give my 2 cents: Carolina Freight has a very nice company museum in Cherryville, North Carolina, the C. Grier Beam Truck Museum, with lots of miscellaneous photos, info, and several antique trucks.

Also, I think Forum member Wee Willy has some vintage Ryder shots (yellow IH Transtars come to mind), may be worth sending him a PM.

Anyway, best of luck with the search!

Morgan - Lodge Members -

Welcome! What an enormous research project! This work for what specific kind of mission and end product?
SIGH! All this for someone else ISO a Ph.D.?  <G>

In your listing, many of the carriers actively remain in the business. Most of them have compelling and well
done websites, and easy enough to locate. Then, the massive challenges about info on the "Fallen Flags"
names. With the latter group, a name by name search will yield some results, and implicit hints of where
the added info.

In looking over your entire list, many of us here with long experiences and recall of so many of the named
carriers. Oh, and in gently teasing way, the listing does not have Motor Cargo (OH), Liberty Motor (NJ),
Knaus Truck (KS), Crouch Bros. (MO), Garrett Freight (ID), Valley Copperstate (CA), Et. Al. and Ad. Inf.

Red Star was out of Auburn, N.Y. and ended up in the TNT and the USF systems in later years. Yellow Freight Went through the Roadway Trucking deals an ended up as YR something. There are many many local companies that were gathered up by the bigger ones out there. CF went bankrupt. There are tons of pictures out there.
