Fantastic shot Oso and congratulations! Talk about really nailing the intermodal theme for this month!

As a reminder, you get first dibs on suggestions for next month's topic.

Congratulations Oso2!
That's definitely a cool shot, spot on example of "intermodal".

Well thank you thank you!

Paul Kane - where is that transloading facility? It looks like PA(?)

I had a couple of october potm ideas - let me mull those over.

I'm thinking about a quasi-open category: that's any truck EXCEPT for w900's, 359/379's, or any truck with an oversize bunny killer-bumper, big droopy visor, thick straight pipes, or cosmetically stretched frame.

Why? Because w9's and 379's are overdone and the rest are cartoon trucks IMHO. In other words, open category except for the overdone and cartoon trucks. That leaves about 95% of all trucks eligible.

Another idea would be something atmospheric - a picture that's more about a scene than capturing a single truck.

Well done & well deserved Oso. :) Nothing like an 11th hour entry to come in & sweep away the grand prize. ;D

I get the gist of your first idea and am on board, but we'd have to call it something other than open category. I don't want people getting the wrong idea. Something that emphasizes no Paccar conventionals or eye-popping accessories. Any suggestions?

How about this?

"Anything but Paccar Conventionals and Eye-Popping Accessories." - followed by a definition of the latter in the text: (no trucks with any of the following: oversize texas bumpers, big droopy visors, thick straight pipes, or cosmetically stretched frames.)

BTW, I'm still toying with the idea of something atmospheric, but I don't know if there are a lot of artistically minded people here.

I have a feeling that the polls here might be rigged to favor long time members. We need a firm ending date for submissions. Nothing personal but lets start out on an even playing field.

Oso 2,
Nice job!!! Try not to make the next subject too complicated. Pacarhauler I'm with you on the firm date idea. Also a deadline for entries would be good.

I also was confused . I thought the contest was going , then it wasn't , I thought I voted , then I had not , I thought the voting ended , but it did not ?

I read Oso2's idea as "No Large Cars".
Overall, sounds like a cool subject. Lots of variety. :)

How about "Classy Unconventionals?" We can add in the bit about bumpers/visors/pipes/stretched frames in the description, and I'll try to be vigilant about making sure entries stay within the guidelines.

I think we'd all enjoy an artistically minded theme, but at the same time I think that would be too restrictive an idea as a lot of members might not have something they feel qualifies.

I have a feeling that the polls here might be rigged to favor long time members. We need a firm ending date for submissions. Nothing personal but lets start out on an even playing field.

Thank you for sharing your concerns, they have been noted. We welcome all comments and suggestions for improving the poll.

To clarify, I created the poll. We had a late addition as Oso was having computer troubles, so I went back and edited the poll to add his entry in. All votes were nullified, so anybody who voted first (about 10~ or so members) had their votes reset, including you. I put out a post explaining what I did, but noticed after a couple days we still had a low amount of votes, so I extended the poll another day and gave everybody the heads up to check their vote.

Dick, Gary, with all due respect, last month aside, I think between me and Rob we do a pretty good job of giving advance notice when the poll will be created. We put out a notice several days in advance at the end of the month that the poll will be created soon, and I try to give a timeframe to allow members plenty of time to get their submissions in. Is it a perfect system? No, but before Oso's late entry last month we have never had an issue with submissions coming in after the poll was posted. To be fair, if anyone has an issue with their hosting, or having computer issues, or whatever, please feel free to contact me or Rob or say something here so we can give everybody a shot to get their entries in.

Flexibility when posting the poll allows us time to deal with potential issues, which is why I'm against setting a hard date for submissions at the end of the month. Ideally, I'll put out a notice before the last week, and run the poll for 3-4 days right at the very end of the month, so that a winner can be declared at the start of the new month.

I think we go easy on the "no Paccars", it opens up a "single out the truck you don't like", next it moves to those who don't like Volvo's to claim their anti truck make on another contest? It would be better to go with "no bling" or "factory stock only",  that way every maker would qualify and those who own these brands aren't put in the corner of shame. Just my opinion on the subject!

I know it may all be in fun but sometimes it creates a wrong vibe to those who don't understand, different countries or what ever the case may be?

Jim.

Well for one thing I didn't say no Paccars: I said no w9's or 359/379's.  Why? Because they are wildly overrepresented in trucking culture. There are other trucks out there to take pictures of!

But, if you want some kind of brand-neutral generic line,  I'd say no long nose conventionals with dual exterior intake cans.

Secondly I don't think this is going to set off a wave of brand bashing.

What do you want us to take pictures of and submit for October.
A simple category please.
I knew there would be some flack letting you post late.
That;'s the once and only time.
This month's submission must be entered by October 28 2018

Let's decide on a topic.

I understand it's only for fun and nobody here gets paid to run this. I'm relatively new here and my interests are pretty narrow. I also hope that OSO picks something that both US and Canadian truckers can photograph.

Idk if it was me that said no Paccars but to clarify that wasn't the intent at all. Just no 359/379/389's or W900's. However, I leave those decisions up to Rob as I am not the authority on the subject.

Rob, Rob, Rob.... ;D I was trying to be collaborative. But since you asked, my POTM category for October is:

"Classy Unconventionals"

Bring us your Mack R's, Your Kenworth T880's, your Freightliner Argosies and your International Prostars and Fleetstars.....BUT, please leave behind your 'large cars.' (That means any long square nose conventionals with dual air cans, or any truck with big Texas bumpers, drop visors, thick straight pipes or a cosmetically stretched frame.)

P.S. Might I suggest posting the submission deadline on the potm topic posting from now on.

Very well, so it is!! I must warn you Oso........you declared war!!! Technically speaking, you just disqualified every truck with a hood on it.
If it's not a conventional, it's a cabover or other.  :-X

Actually I think Oso's unconventional thinking worked out pretty good (for once  ;D). Looking through my photos I came across tons of pics that weren't Large Cars and often go overlooked..........it was hard to single one out for an entry.

Thanks.......I think.  I was going too say that I am impressed by the entries so far.

....Now maybe I'll enter something that was actually manufactured within the last 20 years.

Would a 567 count as unconventional? It seems like a blend of classic and aero.

I will define what is excluded!
Chrome to the wazoo and big stacks and big visors and strings of chicken lites .......the brand shouldn't matter but W900's and Pete 377/379/389 etc etc are Conventionally thought of as classy.
Otherwise it's up to you ..........

Well I said that "any long square nose conventionals with dual air cans" are verboten, so yeah, a 567 would be fine.
