Title: UPS Parcel Trailer Paint Color
Post by: rch on August 17, 2018, 10:34:30 AM
I have a few parcel trailers to paint. Can anyone recommend a good match for the gray base color? I typically use Model Master enamel paints, so I have a pretty wide selection of grays available. I just don't know which one is best to start with.

One more question: are the wheels black or brown?

Honestly, can't help you with the gray.

But the wheels are black!

Thanks, Greg. That's helpful.

I'll play around with some different grays and see what I come up with. I have one of the Walthers UPS pups. I guess I could see what's close to it and go from there.

I ended up using Model Master Flat Gull Gray for the base color of the trailer. Although it is slightly darker than the gray Athearn used on their RTR 40' parcel trailer, it is very close to the same hue. A few drops of white could get the gray extremely close to matching the Athearn trailer. However, since I don't know how many of these trailers I'm going to add in the future, I'd rather use a color I can recreate later without any more effort than opening a jar.

The Walthers pup I have is considerably darker than the Athearn trailer. From what I understand the 26' trailers didn't see TOFC service, so I may just retire that model or confine it to a road scene.
