Title: December 2016
Post by: Rob Archer on December 01, 2016, 03:11:37 PM
Well, here we are, the first day of the last month of 2016.
So, like every other day of the past 11 months, please post a truck picture taken the day it is shot.
One picture a day; first come first served.

Hard to believe only 1 month before we're into 2017 POTD photos. ::) I'll start December off (12-1-16) with a MBM Foodservice Volvo from Rocky Mount NC laid over at a hotel in Piscataway NJ this morning.

Tuesday December 6 2016.

Not Trimac Tuesday or Tanker Tuesday or Can Hauler Tuesday.

CMW Express must have been unloaded promptly this morning since he is headed out just after 8AM.
(http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc502/CdnBusPhotog/POTD/potd%206-12-16_zpsmktgwixn.jpg) (http://s1215.photobucket.com/user/CdnBusPhotog/media/POTD/potd%206-12-16_zpsmktgwixn.jpg.html)
They must have a regular customer in my district as I often see them parked in the evenings waiting.

That's not to say that the original plan wasn't to be TANKER TUESDAY..but a Jeep got in the way.

We nearly didn't get a POTD on Thursday until I took my wife's car to put some gas in just before 11PM.
This Foss Transport (Seaboard Transport) T800 Kenworth was delivering a load of fuel. The snow on the parking lot is the first of the 2016-17 season.

Sunday December 11 2016

It's white in southern Ontario today too.
First real  snow of the 16-17 season.
So, with it being Sunday and less busy but wanting a truck picture I knew I could rely on my old standby.

Are container haulers busy on the weekend, or does it slow right off?

Not as busy but still busy. Major terminals, CN and CP allows from 2 to 3 days of free storage before extra charges apply. Most of the haul during the weekends is focused on hauling containers out before storage and/or for next day or so delivery. That's normally what happens during weekends.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply.......So containers are shipped out within a day or two of arriving?

That depends on the schedule set by the carrier or customer. Most receive the shipments before demurrage starts.
Title: Re: December 2016
Post by: tootall67 on December 11, 2016, 05:03:48 PM
I take it, before they start charging a fee after a certain time period..........
Title: Re: December 2016
Post by: Rob Archer on December 11, 2016, 05:25:28 PM
It, when I was still involved with containers. was 48 hours freetime.
48 hours to have it cleared through Customs, Steamship Released, delivered toi the consignee and picked up empty.
The demurage back then was 125.00 per day.
Title: Re: December 2016
Post by: tootall67 on December 11, 2016, 05:40:31 PM
That doesn't give them a whole lot of time........and at 125.00 a day, that adds up quick........
Title: Re: December 2016
Post by: Zeprome on December 11, 2016, 05:49:39 PM
You ain't that far off before. Roughly 10-15 years ago, storage was non existent, only $10 per day and had a relatively long period of free storage.

Now it's $200 per day. Depending on where the container came from (Vancouver, Montreal/Halifax), the free storage period varies. Plus, if you do not have a CN RV reserved for that import, the container will be brought to CN MISC with additional charges.

Rob you know about the CN Reservation system? Perhaps back when you were still involved with containers, you didn't need to reserve for an appointment and went through the old terminal gate. Back then, paperworks were done at the recipitant hut which is now gone and replaced by lanes and additional spaces for container chassis.

Winter arrived in Southern Ontario this week - the first serious snow Sunday into Monday and the first "cold snap" on Wednesday morning.
It was also the first day this week that I was able to go to Tim Horton for my morning brew.
This Highland Transport Columbia was what went past - looks like it might be a former White Oak Transport tractor.
