Title: Scanned negatives from 15 years ago ( spring & summer 2000)
Post by: G. Laplante on January 05, 2015, 07:50:51 PM
I have posted in the forum scanned pics  taken here and there from my beginning in truck spotting. This time I plan to be more inclusive   and I have started to scan all my negatives.  It can happen that some pics may have been    ever   posted but  it would be to long to check that. So I ask to excuse me if that happen.  Pics were taken with a 20 years old Nikkormat FT3 with a 50mm lens and a 2X extender.  Films were at the beginning  100ASA . So it was not the best equipment  to catch moving trucks specially in  low light. And vibration reduction ( VR) was unknown then.  We have seen a revolution with the  photography  material in the last 15 years.

I plan to post lots of 15 years old pics in this thread if there is interest for that.

Let start with pics taken  in the area of the St-Nicolas truck stop in April of 2000.

Belmire was a temperature controlled fleet based in the Montreal area. There were sold  in the following years to an Ontario  company and I guess melted in their fleet.

Demers Express was an old Quebec fleet. They were taken over in 1989 by Cameron-Ashley, a building material distributor , and became their private fleet.  Cameron-Ashley have changed hands a few time in the 2000 and at the end the last owners  have decided to ceased to use a private fleet.

Cooney is  still an important Ontario fleet. They are based in Brandford.

Real Grondin was an important sawmill located in  Beauce County. They had a private fleet of about 30 trucks, all of them Mack. Problem with the lumber industry have cause the fall of the company. For years after their green and gold Mack CH were seen here and there in other  fleets in Quebec and Ontario.

Brookville Carriers are from St-John NB. I can't remember if they were already member of the Contrans group then.

Daily Motor Express were based in Mississauga. Not long after , they were taken over by Transforce.  Over the years they were  associated with other TFI divisions and  few years ago we lost sight of them. Maybe they were melted with TST Overland or/and Kingsway.

As a bonus, a pic published in an issue of 1972 of Bulldog Magazine of the Demers Express fleet.

I always enjoy seeing your scanned pics Gerard, it is really interesting to see what trucking looked like and how much it has changed in the past
10-15 years. In response to your question about Brookville, by this time they were part of what was then known as Laidlaw Carriers' group of companies. Brookville originally had blue tractors and white trailers, but adopted the Laidlaw colors (which were the old Dunford colors) back in either the very late 1990's or early 2000. They're still listed on the Contrans website, but Contrans was in the process of consolidating their divisions when they were bought by Transforce within the past year, or at least there was an offer of purchase made.

Hi Gerard, please post as many as you can. Even 15 years ago is quickly becoming history.

Small correction, Belleville. Cooney is based in Belleville. They do have a terminal in Brantford.
Daily disappeared; probably into Kingsway.
I thought Belmire disappeared into Transforce too.
Brookville, AFIK, remains alive as Contrans eastern Canadian flatdeck company.
What I saw recently is that Contrans will be owned by Transforce but remain an independent operating company.
We shall have to see how it all pans out.
Very nice pictures as the others have stated.

Go ahead Gérard it will be fascinating and at the same time you give us the opportunity to revisit the evolution of the transport
sector.

About Daily, it was mergered with Select as a new Transforce division in 2004 or 2005

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/rene_buron/2006/apr/file0006.jpg

and integrated into Kingsway few years later.

About Belmire Transport, it was sold to Atlas Cold Store somewhere in the first half of the 2000 decade and close down by
Atlas in 2008.

Thank's guys for your comments and the  additional details you have added.  All informations are welcomed.

Here is another series taken in the Quebec City area in late April 2000.   If you don't mind, once in a while I may add a bonus pic from my collection. Some of those bonus have not been taken by me but  can add some more informations to the posting.

Select Express was taken over by Transforce in the beginning of the 2000.  Some others Transforme acquisitions ( Japiro, L'Islet  for instance) were melted in Select
over the years.  By the middle of the decade, Select & Daily were put together. After a while the name Daily was dropped and replaced by Thibodeau.  After a short period of time both Select and Thibodeau names were dropped and their assets transferred to Kingsway and TST Overland. A tumultuous live for the drivers.

Midland is an old carrier based in Dieppe NB.  Around 2000, it seem that most of their trucks were FLiner FLD 120 .  The fleet is more diversified today.

Mill Creek Motor Freight is based in Cambridge ON. Since 1999 they are a division of the Mullen Group from Alberta.

Ronado is a small fleet based in Riviere-du-Loup Qc. They may take a great care of their trucks since they keep them for a long period of time.

Transport FT ( Fidele Tremblay ) is based in Luceville , East of Rimouski.  This family business have been in business for about a half century. Their livery is a legacy of the Kenworth they were using in the seventies. More informations with the bonus pic.

Leo Labelle is a small fleet based in Bearns in Quebec NorthWest ( Abitibi ).  Less than 800 units were made of those Pete 372 between 1988-1993.

The following pic come from the Tremblay family archives. This pic present the KW on the fleet at the end of the seventies.  Those trucks were hauling lumber to the USA for the Luceville Lumber Company ( Lulumco ).  Another part of the fleet were hauling wood chips to a mill in the Quebec City area. Most of the trucks in this division were COE. By the middle of the eighties they have switched to Freightliner and a few years later the wood chips division was sold. Today the fleet have about 50 trucks including a  heavy haul division.

I really enjoy these photos from 15 years ago Gerard since you and i started taking truck pics at approximately the same time. :) To look back at these photos now is just amazing...........the way the industry has changed, the companies that are no more and the equipment that has both disappeared and evolved over the years.  :o By all means keep this thread going until spring comes and the weather is nice enough for you to hit the road again. ;D

This Ronado FLD seem to be unit 95230 ( 1995 ). I have not seen it laterly but he can still be used for  local work.  In the last few months I have seem some of their Freightliner  from 1997-98-99 and 2000  still working on transborder  hauls.

Here is another series.  The first one were catched around Quebec city and the last one on the road between Quebec City and Mont-Joli Qc.

Transport Leblanc was a nice small fleet ( 15-20 trucks ) based in Warwick Qc. They were taken over in the first years of the 2000.  I don't know exactly what happens to them but  some of their assets were transferred to Select.

Expediteur Japiro was a small fleet based in Montmagny. They were melted with Select after their acquisition by Transforce around 2002.

About this time, Mackie was still hauling cars in enclosed trailers.

An old fleet from Atlantic Canada, Sunbury.

Nesel Fast Freight  was part of a group based in Ontario. They were an important furnitures hauler.  Toward the end of the 2000 , they were teamed with Gingras another furniture hauler from Quebec.  A few years ago, both Gingras & Nesel were taken over by VA from Laurier Station Qc. With this transaction, VA become the biggest furnitures hauler in Eastern Canada.  The name Gingras was dropped but  I wonder if the name Nesel have been kept for VA operations in Ontario.

Cabano was an old Quebec fleet and the carrier who have started what Transforce is today. Cabano was started in 1957 in Riviere-du-Loup Qc. Over the years they have taken over dozens of small haulers in Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Their biggest transactions came  in 1986-87 when they took over within a few months Expeditex Group (Hamel, Cartier, etc) and Brazeau. Those carriers were many times the size of Cabano  . In 1992 they took over Kingsway. Those acquisitions were difficult to integrate and  Cabano  had to find new investors to survive. Among them came the Saputo Family that had to invest more and more money to save their first investment. As a result, the Emond Brothers who had started Cabano lost the control of their company.  In 1999, the Cabano name was dropped and the company took the name of Transforce.  The name Thompson's on the trailer is about Thompson's Transfer, a carrier from Nova Scotia who was taken over by Cabano-Kingsway in 1998.
's
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v682/Glaplante/Glaplante012/058-0400-Cabano_zps8f36a585.jpg)

As a bonus, a Cabano sign that was placed in the entry of their Sept-Iles terminal ( former Hamel and Cartier terminal). He was still there in 2004 when I took a picture of it . This terminal is now used by TST Overland who have taken over all the LTL operations of Transforce  on the Quebec North Shore and Labrador.
The reefer trailer is one of a series used by Cabano to ship   by train perishable products  from Sept-Iles to the mining town of Northern Quebec & Labrador in the  eighties and nineties.

Can you translate the word "VRAC" into anglais for me please?

Merci.

Vrac = Bulk.

It's funny you mentionned the contract Cabano had, shipping perishable goods to Northern Quebec.Transforce still has this contract, via their TAT division...

Good memories of the old trucking days...

Thank's guys. Here is another series. Pictures were taken  around Mont-Joli at the end of April 2000. Mont-Joli is a small town situated about 330 km NorthEast of Quebec City.

Gino Bois is an important wood chips hauler now located in Mont-Joli. They have taken over CF Morin from Pohénégamook last year.

An old FLiner conventional for FT Transport. This  Freightliner model was the fleet truck  with Fidele Tremblay from 1986 to 1998 when they switched  to the Century.

Gingras was in important furniture & appliance  hauler serving Quebec and Atlantic Canada.  Around 2005 they were taken over by the Calyx Transportation Group from Brampton ON and associated  with Nesel Fast Freight  also a furniture and appliance hauling specialist serving Ontario and Quebec.  In 2009, the Calyx Group sold Nesel and Gingras to their main competitor in their field , VA Transport now located in Boucherville Qc.  Along with his speciality, Gingras was also hauling doors & windows and later bread up to his acquisition by the Calyx Group.

GoJit is a  LTL carrier based in Montreal. They have also a parcel  and courier division named DICOM.

CF Morin is wood chip hauler based in Pohenegamook , East of Riviere-du-Loup.  Since last year, they are operated by Gino Bois.

Levasseur is a carrier specialized in forest products and building material located  also in Pohenegamook . Over the years they have added a garbage collecting and dump trucks divisions.  For many years their fleet was all Ford. With the disappearance of Ford they have switched to Sterling for a while before  starting to buy Freightliner.  Today they fleet is mostly Fliner but they also buy   some Mack Pinnacle every year .

I know that many truck fans are also rail fan. This time, my bonus pic is for them. I took this pic of a track speeder in front of a former Mont-Joli railway station. The building is now used  as a tourist information bureau and after 15 years the track scooter is still parked there.

Thank's guys. Here is another one with pics taken mostly in Mont-Joli and the area. It will be my  last posting this week. I will  need some time to organize my pics and do a little research to write my captions for next week postings.

Guilbault unloading at the Mont-Joli shopping center. It's one of the oldest fleet in Quebec. It have been started in 1929. For many years their fleet was all Mack. By mid nineties they  were with International and few years ago they made another switch, this time going with Volvo. You will find a few more information about them with the bonus pic. Guilbault is still a family business.

Midland Courier catched on TCH near Riviere-du-Loup.

We are used to see today Mario Asselin from Amqui Qc pulling his super-B and four axles trailers with big Pete and Western Star. In 2000 they had Star and Classic and this big Ford.

Transport Levy was a big  bulk hauler in Quebec. The carrier has been started in the eighties by the legendary Rene Bussières. The fleet was sold around mid-nineties to Montgomery Tank Lines from the USA. Later Montgomery was taken over by Quality Carriers. In the first half of the 2000, Quality Carriers sold Levy glass division to Transport Robert , the fuel hauling division to Jacques Auger and they merged the remaining chemical division with their operations. . It was the end  for Levy.

A typical Day & Ross rig.

For more than a century Montmagny area was famous for his foundries making  stoves ( Belanger, L'Islet, etc.  After WWII those companies where growing and became targets for acquisition buy multi national appliances manufacturers. It was Whirlpool  who made the deal and they established a giant plant in Montmagny.  Buckley  Cartage from Mississauga may have  a favorite Whirlpool carrier so they were always lot of their trucks around Montmagny.  In the 2000 the biggest employer of the Montmagny area have decided to close his plant and move the work to Southern USA or Mexico . It was a disaster for the area.  And it was maybe a disaster
for the quality of appliances too. My grand-mother kept his " Belanger " stove for more than fifties years and he is still in the family today.  When I look at the new appliances I bought last year, I don't think  that they will be in use in 10 years from now. My wife say that they will not last 5 years.

This bonus pic about Guilbault was published in a 1976 issue of Bulldog Magazine. I think that they had then a Canadian Edition. You can find interesting informations about the carrier.

years ago there was at one time 6 of us from my area w/ trucks on Levy working out of the Qakville yard, though I took the majority of my dispatch from St. Romuald at that time ,,,was a good company to do work for, miss seeing the grey blue fendered units rolling down the road, was a company just around the bend from St Romuald yard that had identical painted trucks.....

Great pics! Reminds me of my childhood trips to Quebec to visit family. The highlight of my trips was always the truck watching. Quebec has some of the most interesting trucks in my opinion. Keep the pics coming!

Thank's guys.  After a little break, I am back with those scans pics. Lots of pics with appears in the following weeks including for Dany some  of Fortier/Boostway rigs.

The first four pics were taken in the Mont-Joli/Rimouski area.  The next two were taken at the Ultramar truck stop in St-Nicolas .

Two P&D straight truck for Transport Morneau taken at their Rimouski terminal.

Climan was a carrier based in Montreal (Lachine).  Last pic I took of them was in 2004.  I don't know what  have happened with them.

It's the same Cabano-Kingsway Volvo I have posted earlier. This time he is pulling  a trailer from another Transforce division, Papineau.

In 2000 quite a few soft drinks and beer distributors were still using Ford C Model  trucks.  I don't think that Labatt Wildcat beer is still on the market.

Transport Bourassa from St-Jean Freightliner.  I don't know if it's what we call an extended cab.

Another Transport Belmire Freightliner, this time a FLD 120 flat top. I have always liked this model.

As a bonus, a gift  from   my friend Wayne Crane, a rare Mack Superliner for Transport Cabano.  Thank's a lot Wayne.

Lots of cool stuff there!  I agree Gerard, I used to see Climan all the time and then one day....gone, no sign of them...to the point that I never even saw their ex-trailers where you could tell graphics were removed.

Love that Bourassa Freightliner FL112 (I think it is).  When I worked at Freightliner, the option was you could order them with curtains back there in the event you needed to use that extended portion as a sleeper for shorthaul operations.

Here is some more pics for this threat. Pics were taken in the last days of April 2000 at the Ultramar Truck Stop in St-Nicolas. For old timers, this truck stop occupy the site of the old Guil Truck Stop.

Y&N Gonthier  was then a new carrier based in nearby St-Romuald.  Today it's a middle size fleet. Among others things, they have quite a few mail contracts to Eastern Quebec and the Atlantic.

In those years Bruce. R. Smith trucks were often seen in Quebec. By the middle of the decade they have almost disappeared and today I only see them once in a while. They are based in Mississauga ON.

A contractor from the Quebec City area with a Mack CL.

Here is a double. First a broker for Big Freight out of Winnipeg and an International COE for Canam Steel.

A Freightliner COE for Remorquage d'Anjou from Rimouski Qc.  When he was  not used for recovery, this FLB was often seen puling  super B trailers  fully loaded with lumber.

Here is another series of old pics. Some were taken at the Ultramar Truck Stop in St-Nicolas and other on my way back to my hometown of Sherbrooke Qc. Pics taken in the last days of  April 2000.

Saguelac was a division of the Thibodeau Group. Thibodeau was started in 1945 in Portneuf County.  Over the years it become an important carrier with about 400 trucks and more than 800 employees. Thibodeau was serving mostly Quebec while their division Saguelac was serving clients in Saguenay-Lac St-Jean and the Quebec North Shore. Their division Marcan was doing inter-provincial and transborder work. In 2006 they have taken over Alpine Transportation from Cambridge ON.  They want then to consolidate their services in Ontario and eventually develop the Western Canada market. About one year later , a surprise occurred and    the Thibodeau Group was  taken over by Transforce. For a while they became Thibodeau-Select and all of a sudden toward the end of 2011 it was over for the old company and their asserts were transferred to TST Overland & Kingsway.

Seaboard is a bulk carrier based in Dartmouth NS. In the last 10 years they have made quite a few important acquisitions in Ontario, Western Canada and the USA  to become  a big player in the dry and liquid bulk hauling field in North America.

Landstar have his headquarters in Jacksonville Fl  but with more than 8500  0/0 leased to them they may have locations all over the USA .

A bad pic of a Pete 362 ? toter.  Usually the trucks hauling this kind of prefab buildings  have Indiana licence plates.

I had the impression that Highland was a pretty big carrier in those times. Since their acquisition by Transforce I have the feeling that the operations have been downsized and the equipment is downgraded.

MPH was a small Quebec auto carrier.  I have lost sight of them a few years after.

As  a bonus, a pic of  a Roberval Express  White coming from the Lac Bouchette Collection. Mrs Gagne   was opering  a restaurant in Lac Bouchette,on Highway 155 north of La Tuque Qc.  She was taking pics of trucks and drivers  stopping at her place. Pics were  taken in the last half of the 1970 decade.  Roberval Express was a regional carrier based in Roberval Lac St-Jean. They had also an authority to haul to Toronto. They went  under around the end of the seventies.  Their assets and permits were bought back by Thibodeau Transport.  Thibodeau decided than to create a regional fleet named Saguelac and an interprovincial fleet  to work on the permit to Toronto and named it Transport Marcan.  After the deregulation in the eighties, Marcan became also a transborder carrier.

This would be a 352 cut down to a single drive (if originally built as a single drive, and before '78 it would have been a 282 - by 78 or so they had done away with the 300/200 model number for tandem/single drive.)

The "bonus" White from Roberval is my pick from this batch. I hadn't realised they had been gone that long.
Yes, Highland was much bigger in the Truck Load business than they are today.
I haven't seen anything for Highland for a while except for some container haulers.
This has been a most enjoyable thread.

Thank's  guys. Here is some more pics. They were taken in the first week of May 2000 around my hometown of Sherbrooke Qc.

Transport Boutin is one of the oldest Quebec carrier. They were started nearly 70 years ago  by Valere Boutin and are still a family business. To honour their founder  we can always  find  the letter " V " in their livery.  Along with Boutin who is a regional carrier they have a trans-provincial and transborder division named TransNat and a flatbed and dedicated division named Frontenac.

A&M was a small fleet based in East-Angus. They were taken over  by Transforce in the first years of the 2000 and renamed A&M International. Over the years they have added some assets of other   fleets taken over by TFI.

Puits Lapointe is an important local wells specialist.

I usually place my bonus pic at the end of the series but this time I was not able to do so.  A local shop was buying , refurbishing  and selling old Mack.

Loomis was a courier service then. Not long after, I think that they were taken over by another carrier  and the name was out of sight for more than 10 years. When  Transforce took over the Canadian operations of DHL a few years back, the renamed it Loomis.

Thank's guys.  I like it when you add some elements of information. It help me  to solve mysteries that I carry sometime for years.

Here is another series of pics taken around my hometown in the first half of May 2000.

Transport Robert with a b-train of dump trailers.  I had idea that they were hauling hazmat in those trailers but it seem that they can also haul coils.

SAS was a medium size carrier based in Drummondville . As so many Quebec fleets, they were taken over by Transforce in the first half of the 2000 decade.  After the acquisition they were renamed  Transport Gregoire Drummondville division and after  a period of time they were merged for good with Gregoire.

Transport Bourassa is now  a mainly Kenworth fleet.  When this pic was taken their fleet was a mix of Freightliner and International.

Transport Boutin International pulling a Reimers trailer. Up to a few years ago, they were the one who were  pulling Reimers trailers in my area.

About LOOMIS, It was owned in the early 90's by Mayne Nickless the second most important carrier in Australia. In 2003,
DHL bought LOOMIS and used it as the springboard for the growth of it's Canadian domestic parcel and courier operations.
When Transforce bought the DHL Express domestic operation it got the right to use the LOOMIS trademark.

This thread is right up there for one of the best we've seen and just when we think it's reached it's Awesome-ness Peak....you out-do yourself with probably my two favorite liverys from Quebec.

The Robert and the SAS.  The way they had their trucks painted when you took them were my favorite.  Back in the late 90's when I was probably in my late teens, I was heavy into making model trucks.  I made a SAS and a Transport Robert, both IH's, both painted the same way as these.  I wish I took more photos of my models from back in the day.  I'll throw these photos in here because they technically have ties to this thread.   ;)

For some reason, I can only seem to find/recover these photos.

After a little break here is another series. I try to post the pics in the chronological order I took them.  Today pics and those of the next series were taken around my hometown around the middle of May 2000. After that, I will move in the Montreal area for  quite a fews series.

Remember the old  Couture Transport  livery. It was changed  as soon as new truck were coming  beginning in 2000. Those FLD 120 were from the second half of the nineties.

L.Breton Transport was started in the beginning of the seventies for hauling limestone from the nearby Graymont quarry in Marbleton.  In the nineties, the fleet was sold to Groupe Chalut from Joliette Qc who own two others fleets specialized in hauling limestone and a Volvo truck dealership. L. Breton fleet is about 50 trucks and can be  seen  in Eastern Canada and New England.

Real Grondin Inc. was a big sawmill and a fleet of about 30 Mack trucks based in St-Come in Beauce County. Following financial problems the sawmill was sold and the trucking division went under.

DM Breton is a small all KW fleet based in St-Honore in Beauce County. They have changed their livery from white to silver the year after.

The KLLM Transport Services were seen in my area once in a while then. I think that I have never seen one of them in the last 10 years.

Desrochers Excavating is a small fleet based in Derby Vt and who do mostly transportation relative to agriculture

This pic a L.Breton Mack R was given to me by my friend Gerald and his dated from the seventies or eighties. Breton fleet was then all Mack. This livery remember me of the old Mack B my father have bought from them in mid seventies and that he used to haul the cardboard and metal he was recycling.

Now, do you have pictures of the old B model Mack your dad drove? I never knew your father drove trucks.

I remember seeing those old Couture FLD's on with different companies after they got rid of them. Really like the Desrochers Excavating.

That R model Mack is awesome Gerard, and so is that Ford Aeromax LTLA with the live floor trailer, nice series all around!

Now, do you have pictures of the old B model Mack your dad drove? I never knew your father drove trucks.

Jim.

It's can be a long story, Jim.  My father was a kind of Jack of all trade. Toward the end of his active life he had started to collect and recycle cardboard and various metals.  One of my brother in law who was a small  excavation contractor had  succeed to  sold him an old B Model Mack to haul his stuff to the Montreal area.  My mother who had more than enough to see  those bales of cardboard and piles of scrap metal in our old barn and around it  was opposed  to  see this old yellow & brown battered truck parked in our  yard. So the truck stay at our brother in law place and as I was still working in Labrador then I have never come to see  it.  The truck only made a few runs to Montreal before he was  stopped by the police and put out of the road because he had too much repair to be done on it. My brother and sisters told me that he was so ugly that nobody lost his time taking a pic of it.  But I am still hoping that one day somebody will come with a snap shot of it.

Aw yes, definitely a story!! What one sees as junk, others-we- see as treasures.......thanks, it sounds familiar from my dad, grampa and grandmother except with old cars........in her literal translation she referred to them as "chunks of rust"! :(

Thank's guys. Here is  some more trucks taken from local spots. I should start soon some series  of pics that I have taken in the Montreal area at the end of may 2000.

MS Carriers was  a US carrier based in Memphis TN that was a regular visitor in my area. When this pic was taken  the carriers was in his last months and was due to be integrated in the Swift fleet a month later.

Miltrak was a small fleet ( 15 trucks) based in the Trois-Rivieres area. They went under in the fall of 2003.

Megantic Transport was a nice medium size fleet based in Lac Megantic. The founder had passed away two years before and the family had decided to sell. It was done in the following weeks. The buyer was  Leo Bussieres the legendary guy who have started, bought and sold many trucking companies  in Quebec. He sold back Megantic to Transport Robert the year after. Today they are operated as a division of Transport Robert.  I have written an article on the history of this fleet that will be published in the Great Lake Truck Club in the next few months.

Transport Levasseur had several of those Ford Aeromax flat top. I have always liked those trucks.

The following pics were taken in the yard of the local International dealer. Gosselin Express is an important and quite diversified fleet based in Thetford Mines. They have been started in 1929  with a Reo Speedwagen. Today the fleet is mostly all International.

Here is was the Gosselin Express fleet was in 1947. Pic was taken in a document published years ago about the 100 years of Thetford Mines.

With the next series and  and for a few more we will move to the Montreal area. I had a meeting there and I went a day in advance to do some trucks spotting. The following pics were taken  from the Sherbrooke Street overpass over Highway 25 who lead to nearby Pont-Tunnel Lafontaine.

On my way from the Honore-Beaugrand metro station to my spot I took a pic of this Rentway tractor. Rentway was the truck leasing division of Trimac. It was to be sold to the Penske Truck Leasing company in the following months.  It was a pretty big company with near 10,000 trucks and the sale was for over 100,000,000 $.

Goyette is a trucking company based in St-Hyacinthe.  They always have brokers with nice trucks leased to them.

LCV have started in Quebec around mid-nineties.  Transport Morneau was one of the first haulers to run them from their St-Arsene terminal, near Riviere-du-Loup , to Montreal.

Mc-Gill from Montreal had been sold to Transforce in the fall of 1999. Some trailers  were already identified with TFI logo but I think that very few tractors, if any, have received the Transforce logo.  Even today we can see, once in a while, some of their former tractors with their distinctive livery still at work.

Ford heavy trucks division had been sold to Freightliner a few years before but they were still lot of Ford trucks on the road.

This FLA was supposed to be the bonus  but he came earlier. Croc Archive was a document shredding  company.

Arnold Bros truck from Winnipeg Mb  were often seen in Quebec up to  a few years ago.

Very cool shots from the overpass leading to the tunnel, I had taken that route 1 or 2 times a week in the late 80's! The Goyotte is my favorite but all are crisp and sharp!!

IowaSuperTrucker, a little precision about McGill. The carrier operated as Transport McGill (1999) Ltee., which was an expedi-
ted truckload carrier, and McGill Air Inc. which was an air freight trucking operation. The Gerard photo shows a McGill Trans- port unit and not a McGill Air unit.

The following photo shows a McGill Air trailer. As you can see the distinctive logo shows an aircraft at the end of the blue swoop.

Do you know what have happened to McGill in the following years? Like many Trnsforce acquisition they are operated for dome time than all of a sudden they disappear.

Thank guys.Thank's Rene for the information on Mc Gill.

Here is another series  from the Montreal area. Pics taken from the Sherbrooke Street overpass or from the nearby Loblaw parking lot.

Fastrax is a division of Day & Ross. Today we see less and less units with this original livery.

JP Laurin was a small fleet based in Joliette Qc. They were taken over by Transforce around 2006. In the following weeks I have seen their materials with others TFI fleets but  I think that JC Germain got most of their assets.

JE Fortin is one of the oldest Quebec fleet. They had their 90th birthday this year.  It's still a family business. Around year 2000 they had quite a few of those FLD 120 flattop most of the time with a big wing.

Here is another Mc Gill truck. I think that  it may be the only day cab I have ever seen with them.

From this angle, I can't read the identification of this truck  but it look quite like one of the COE operated by Transport ALJR , a broker for Canam Steel from St-Gedeon in Beauce County.

Transport DPM was from Cap Santé  , West of Quebec City. They were taken over by Transforce in the spring of 2002.  I think that they were merged with JC Germain from Trois-Rivieres.

As a bonus this Mack RD that is usually seen as a vocational truck. I am not sure of the identification but it look a lot like a Nordan Express unit. Nordan along with Lexon are two fleets from the Gratien Proulx Group. G.Proulx is a distributor of building material with location in Gloucester ON and Chateauguay Qc.  I think that you have also seen the KW K-100 pulling a livestock trailer in the other lane.

The expedited truckload operation of McGill was wind up but McGill Air was managed through the TFI Transport 5 L.P. grou-
ping alongside Kingsway and Select/Daily. In 2010 McGill Air was gathered with Martrans and this two associated divisions
disappeared finally in the Transforce's limbo in 2012.

About DPM, yes Gérard it was integrated into JC Germain as well as Labonté  + Elsa and Shemont which was previously
for a very short period grouped under the Interforce International brand.

About J.P. Laurin, I'm pretty sure their assets was integrated into the Grégoire/SAS fleet.

This thread shows the already omnipresence of Transforce on the Canadian transport stage in those days.

Thank's guys. Here is some more. For some of them I tried to take some side pics from the Loblaw parking lot and did't notice of the lamp post.

Transport Robert have changed is livery around the end of 2009. The International COE is from the old school while the medium duty KW have the new one.

Mirald Transport from Boucherville was owned by Gerald Lacaille.  The Lacaille family have been very active in Quebec trucking world for more than half a century. Mirald was taken over by Transforce  in mid-2002. The management was keeped in place but after a little while Mirald was put under the umbrella of Papineau Transport. About 4-5 years ago the son of Gerald Lacaille have started his own trucking company, Lacaille Transit et it seem that  they are going quite well.

Trimac may had quite a few of those Mack R Model in the Montreal area. I took quite a few of them during this day of truck spotting.

Brentway was from Fredericton NB. I don't know what have happened to them but  I lost sight of them around 2003-4.

Canadian American Transportation  had a tank line division. This division was sold  to a Group from Ontario named Chemlease around 2004.  Few years later ( 2007), the new owner sold it to Transforce  were they may had merged with Kingsway Bulk.

There were still quite a few Ford Heavy Truck on the road like this Louiseville from Cooney out of Beleville On.

As a bonus , this Ford LTL 9000 from Jartran.  It was one of the many trucking companies  started  over the time by the Lacaille family. The cousins Gerald and Marcel Lacaille were heading Jartran.  After   this company was closed around 1990, Gerald when on to start Mirald while his cousin, Marcel, have started GE Lacaille.  Both carriers were eventually sold to Transforce, Mirald in 2002 and GE Lacaille in 2004. This pic is from the collection of my friend Gerald who have driven for Jartran and later Mirald.

Rene : Does Transforce not do any airport to airport work anymore or did Tro-Air survive?
The last Tro-Air trailer I saw was pulled by a QuikX tractor.

Yes Transforce is always involved in airport to airport work. Following the acquisition of the QuickX Group at the end of 2011
Transforce integrated McGill Air and Tro-Air operations into Roadfast. It's a logical move because Roadfast was operating air
freight trucking services which dated back from the TNT era. In those days Roadfast served as a back up to Tro-Air and ope-
rated also airport to airport lanes on it's own having signed a major contract with Air Canada in 1990 to haul air freight bound
to western Canada. The same pattern continued under the QuickX ownership without surprise QuickX having been set up
by a guy named Gary Backok who was previously executive vice-presidenr of TNT Canada.

That would be a difficult decision to target the Mack b-train flatbed or the nice K100 Aerodyne cow taxi sneaking up the main laneway,, reminds me of a local k100 Aerodyne similar colour which originally was configured w/ straight van box had a singled out float pusher lift axle and pulled a matching single axle pup was a real sharp unique looking combo...  cool photo Gerald, as are the others ,,,, CAT Chemfleet / Chemlease had a couple guys here with them...

It's no connection between QuickX and TransX. The first one is a western Canada carrier set up in 1963 by Louie Toalini in
Winnipeg. QuickX ,located in Mississauga, was set up in 1990 by Gary Babcock who was Executive Vice-President of TNT
Canada until the close down of the Alltrans/Comet/Kwikasair Group in 1989 following a Teamsters strike.

In a previous post of Rob Archer, he gave some explanations about a possible link between the two carriers.

The quote of Rob was as follow concerning QuickX :

`` APPARENTLY NOT; THEIR ROOTS GO BACK TO KWIKASAIR,BUT THEY WERE OPERATING WITHIN TRANSX LICENCE IN THE
EARLY DAYS WHICH ACCOUNTS FOR THE SIMILARITY IN LOGOS ``

Gary Babcok inherited of the Roadfast and Tro-Air trademarks, assets and customers base during the 90's when TNT decided to
get out of the general freight sector.

PS : Tro-Air was set up by TNT in 1983 as a division of Trojan Freight Lines itself operating since 1972 as the truckload arm
       of Overland Express.

I know that the transportation world  is a place with continuous and rapid changes but  as I progress in this thread I realize  it's much more important that I had imagined. To write this story I check my archives and do a little research on internet but  as you know I am still  an outsider of this interesting  sector of activity. So I appreciate  a lot all your comments and complementary informations.  As you see, Transforce  is a major factor in all the changes we can observe in the last 15 years .

The next series is also situated around the Sherbrooke Street overpass over Highway 25 in Eastern part of Montreal.

A rare Ford in Transport Morneau fleet.

TST Solutions have been acquired by Transforce in March of 2000.  This Volvo hidden behind of lamp post still have the old livery.

It was a time when Hydro Quebec, the Quebec nationalized utility ,  had a lot of those Ford C model in various set-up. In 2000
they had gone toward conventional trucks but they still had a few of those Ford COE units.

Laidlaw Van Carriers are from Puslinch ON. They are members of the Contrans Group. Transforce have made an offer to buy them and is on his way to
complete the transaction.

Tri-Line Freight is from Calgary Ab. In 2002, Transforce will buy their logistic division while Contrans Group will take over their trucking operations.
With the take over by Transforce of the Contrans Group they will  be under the TFI umbrella.

Pozer was a small carrier from Beauce County. They will be taken over by Guilbault in 2001.

Transport Morneau was started in 1942 in St-Arsène  East of Riviere-du-Loup with a 1942 Chevy truck. . Their headquarter is still there and they serve Quebec-Ontario and Northern Quebec & Labrador. In this old pic we can see the founder, Pierre Morneau , with a new 1948 REO. A nice family business.

In 2007 , Morneau had a stand at a show about trucking and logistics held at the  Montreal " Stade Olympique ". In their stand they had about 10-12 pics about the history of the carrier. I just took pics of the pics.

With this series we will move to another spot in the Montreal area. After I had parked my car in the IKEA  parking lot, I had walked to the nearby Cavendish overpass over TCH ( highway 40) in the Western part of Montreal.  In the following days you will look at a few series from this spot.

On my way to my new spot I have catched this Cabano Kingsway Mack. Cabano was the carrier at the beginning of this giant company that will eventually become Transforce. The company was started in 1957 in Riviere-du-Loup by the Emond brothers. Over the years they had taken over a few dozens of small carriers from Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Their biggest acquisition had occurred in 1987-88  when they had taken over Expeditex ( Hamel, Cartier, etc ) and Brazeau. Their latest  acquisition took place in 1992 with Kingsway. The company was  then renamed   Cabano Kingsway.  In the following years the company had problems integrating their various acquisitions  and eventually the Emond brothers lost the control of their company and not long after the Cabano name was dropped and the company took the name of Transforce TFI). Kingsway became a LTL division of TFI and few years later  all the bulk divisions of the Group  were merged to form Kingsway Bulk.

Network was an old carrier based in Mississauga ON.  A few years later  they were taken over by Travelers Transportation out of Brampton ON. Once in a while, even today, we can see a Travelers tractor pulling an old Netwook trailer

Flex-Mor Industries were from Bolton ON. I have always liked their livery. In 2011 they were taken over by Titanium  Trucking from Woodbridge ON.

[IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v682/Glaplante/Glaplante012/068-0500-Flex-Mor_zpsbfo2lpop.jpg)

Lavigne was a small fleet out of Ottawa. They were taken over by Kriska Holding from Prescott On in 2007.

Clark Transportation were from Perth ON. They were taken over by the Contrans Group in 2004.  In 2009, Contrans sold back to Kriska Holding the reefer division of Clark.

Stevens Transport is an old visitor from Dallas Tx.

This Kingsway Transport  illustration was on the wall of Kingsway Calgary office for many years. One of the  office employes kept it when the location was closed and gave it to my friend Gerald.
While visiting his trucking room, I took a pic of it.

I took too much time writing my captions and it look like that some pics were put aside. Here they are to complete the six pack.

Network was and old carrier. We can see the number 75 on the side of their trailers. They were from Mississauga.  Travelers Transportation from Brampton ON took them over a few years later.  Even today, we can see, once in a while, a Travelers tractor pulling one old Network trailer.

Flex-Mor Industries were from Bolton ON. I have always liked their livery. In 2011 they were taken over by Titanium Trucking Services out of Woodbridge ON.

The old Kingsway picture is sharp, Flexmor had some very cool trucks in their fleet for sure! I remember the Autocar of the late 80's and some Petebrilts.

Thank's Seth for your information about Kriska & Milcreek and to all of you for viewing and your comments.  Here is another series , this one also from the Cavendish overpass in Montreal.

Burnham-Martineau was a warehousing and storage company situated in Dorval.  I don't know if they still in business .

Ganaca is a fleet located in St-Hyacinthe. Lyon Transamerica was the van division of Golden Express from Bois-des-Fillions.  Both companies will eventually be acquired by Transforce, Ganaca in  October of 2004 and Golden in September of 2005. I think that Lyon Transamerica was merged with Papineau.

Transport Lily was a small fleet from Riviere-du-Loup  (RDL). They were taken over by Ronado, another fleet from their hometown around 1910.

Empire is a specialized fleet based in Grimsby ON.  I see them so rarely that I have kept this bad pic.

Transport Couture are from St-Ephrem in Beauce County.  For many years they were one of my favorite fleets. They were taken over by Transforce in September of 2008. Since they have becomed kind of anonymous for me in the big TFI melting pot. But they  may be doing a good job because Transforce have transferred to them the Fortier-Boostway assets in 2009 and the Martrans one in 2012.

Network was actually an amalgamation of several old line carriers who hauled foodstuffs mostly.
One was WC Norris Cartage who did work for Kraft Canada. They went to Network in the early 80's but then Kraft went to a private fleet arrangement.
Here is a picture of a WC Norris trailer on a CP piggyback flatcar in 1968. (picture was found on Facebook)
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/bluejaysfan/Archives/th_NorrisTransporttraileronCP1968_zps0b55b588.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/bluejaysfan/media/Archives/NorrisTransporttraileronCP1968_zps0b55b588.jpg.html)
Another carrier that Network bought was Walmer Transport of Hamilton. They were the inhouse carrier for Canadian Canners Ltd .
So far, I haven't been able to track down any pictures of a Walmer Transport truck from back in the days.
Network was then taken over.

Here is some more pics taken in Montreal at the end of May 2000.

A Maritime & Ontario rig followed by a Pete from Bourque Express. M&O are still around but it seem that the mystic  of the great old days is not  there anymore. Bourque Express have been sold  a few year back and  it seem to have lost their  glamour too.

R.R. Mondor  from Lanoraie.  They were to be taken over by Transforce  in July 2000.  Seem that the young generation of Mondor were not happy with what the family fleet was becoming under Transforce management and they have started around the mid decade  their own fleet named Mondor Express.  Maybe TFI was not happy with this move and  not long after they have closed Mondor and send the assets to Durocher.  On the other hand the young Mondor  continue the tradition of the old RR Mondor fleet.

A Sunbury Mack from the days the fleet was all bright yellow.

R.Mondor, they were called the  " red Mondor " . I think that they were cousins with R.R. Mondor and their terminal was on the other side of road  in Lanoraie. They were then already under the Transforce umbrella since July 1999.  I think that both Mondor fleets were merged when  R.R. was taken over after July 2000.

I don't know if it was the case in Ontario, but in Quebec I have rarely seen a Ford or a Sterling with Manitoulin.

Conray-Dymond were from New Leskeard ON. Over the years I have seen only 3-4 of their trucks and all of them were special looking Mack. I have not seen any of their trucks in the last 5-6 years. I wonder if they still in business?

As a bonus , a pic from Mrs Gagne  in the Lac Bouchette collection. This pic may have been taken in the last half of the seventies  and show what  may have been the first R.R.Mondor  truck. Maybe it was a one truck company then.

Thank's guys. Here is another series . It's again from the Cavendish overpass in Montreal.

A rare Ford in Transport Robert Fleet.  Robert is the second biggest fleet in Quebec after TFI. They have grown over the years with  many dozens small acquisitions.

Slade's Cartage is from Gormly ON.  They were often seen around then and after a while  I have lost sight of them.I have started to see them again in the last few years.

A Daily Transport  trailer pulled by a Mack Superliner. It might be a broker ?

Fortier Transport and his division Boostway have started with a cube but have grown fast. They were taken over by Transforce in October of 2005.  For a reason I have not understood, all of a sudden they were closed in 2009 and their assets  were transferred to Transport Couture.

Fundy Express Transport is a small fleet  based in  Aylesford NS.

Camseau is a small fleet based in Carignan Qc.

I took this pic of  this monster truck in Transport Robert Thetford Mines  yard.  I have been told that the truck  was shop made and was used as a pusher truck during winter to  help Robert trucks to climb the big hill around Thetford Mines and Lac Megantic.

It's not everyday I can add some insight on Canadian carriers, but I think have some info on what may be High Tech Express now.  There is a company based here in St Paul MN, well...actually Roseville, suburb, called Hi-Tech Express.  They are part of the Canadian Siemens Transportation Group who is based in Saskatoon.  Siemens also owns Edge Transportation, a flatbed/stepdeck fleet which I see in Minnesota often and they also own Kindersley Transport as well as a couple other companies I've never heard of before.  Siemens must have bought out Creekbank Transport from Ontario, or they maybe purchased their older trailers...because I see a ton of Ex-CreekBank Transport and JS Crawford and Sons trailers now branded with Hi-Tech Express, Siemen's Group logos.

http://www.siemenstransport.com/html/index-1.html

Maybe someone else can chime in here too and fill in the gaps but that's what is going on with Hi-Tech Express currently.  And maybe there is no link between the High Tech Express photo'd and the Hi-Tech Express of Minnesota part of the Siemen's group, but it seems like there should be.  Seems like too much of a coincidence with TriLine being based in Alberta and HiTech/Siemens in the next province over.

Love that Liberty Linehaul Freightliner flattop too!!  The Muskoka is cool...and even to this day, when I think of Grant, that's what I think of...Red Fords with those interesting larger sleepers.  I always thought they were cool.

Gérard, I will do my best to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Firstly, Hi-Tech Express was set up in 1983 as a specialized division of Hill Security Van Lines. In 1985, two years after the bought out of Motorways by White Pass and Yukon
Corp. ,a subsidiary of Federal Industries, Hill Security Van Lines was sold but Hi-Tech Express was not included in the transaction.

In 1993, Federal Industries decided to close down Motorways keeping however three other trucking units comprising Consoli-
dated Fastfrate,Tri Line Expressways ( truckload & brokerage divisions ) and Hi-Tech Express. One year later Consolidated
Fastfrate was the subject of a management buy out. Finally, in 2000 Tri Line Expressways and Hi-Tech Express was sold to
TCT Logistics which held Atomic Transportation, Kleysen Transport and Daily Motor Freight between others.

Following the Financial collapse of TCT Logistics in 2002, the company was put in receivership, Contrans purchasing all of the trucking assets of Tri Line Expressways, Transforce taking over the Tri  Line Expressways brokerage operations renamed Trans4 Logistics as well as Daily Motor Freight few months before. Atlas Cold became the owner of the TCT reefer operations.

Hi-Tech Express being not included in any of those transactions, it's here that we lost the presence of that division. I'm not
sure at all that the Siemens subsidiary which is located in the States is the same company as the one which was previously
owned by Motorways and located in Ontario. I thing that the jury is always out.

Thank's  Paul, Mike and Rene. Quite a complex story for Hi-Tech Express.  I guess that someone will come with the rest of the story.

Meanwhile here is  a last series from the overpass.

Lesage was a small carrier from the Trois-Rivieres area.  Not long after they will merge will another small carrier from the same area, Lama Transport.  I think that it was the year after, they had disappeared.

SAQ is for Societe des Alcool du Quebec ( Quebec Liquor Board ). They still have their private fleet.

A Trimac bulk carrier.

Charette is an old fleet. Over the years they have taken over many small fleets, one of them was RPR. A few years ago they have decided  that all their divisions will be operated under only one name, Mexuscan Cargo.

Excellent, and yes Radio Shack, the ones I remember were blue and white and I think one of the last trucks was a Western Star single axle COE, sharp looking unit, from Barrie Ontario. On my first trip to BC in '78, I remember being mesmerized by a truck traveling west too, from Calgary where we met him, he would pass me on the down hills and I would pass him on the up sides, good times!! He had a KW COE, blue and white.

Thank you Gérard for the photo post.

Jim, those trailers was usually pulled by Freightliners COE. I don't think Radio Shack was a TNT dedicated account, I am pretty sure they used Overland yard simply as a parking lot for their equipments  in the Montréal area.

Thanks Rene, cool shot for sure and I never went past the Barrie location to see how many trucks they had in their time. I would almost bet they leased them from Ryder or similar but can't remember that detail.

During the previous day, I was taking pics along TCH. The day after I had a meeting in Montreal. The meeting place was on Notre-Dame street about a km East of my hotel, near the Jacques-Cartier Bridge. While walking from my hotel to my meeting  place I made  some urban photography. Here is a first series , another one will follow  maybe tomorrow. All those pics are from May 2000.

Notre-Dame Street is parallel to  the St-Lawrence River and the main access to the Port of Montreal. So there lot of truck traffic along.

JG Drapeau is a carrier based in Toronto. I have rarely seen them in Quebec.

Vitran Express is based in Concord ON . Here they are with what look like an old FLiner conventional. They have been taken over by TFI last year.

This Sunbury FLD is coming from the port with seem to be an open container.

Cam-Scott is an important temperature controlled carrier based in Pickering ON.

Lot of can haulers on Notre-Dame. This one is Harlyn.

For those who like Mc Gill trucks, here is another one.

For years peoples working in the port and nearby factories  were living in this area . About 50 years ago  the government have razed to the ground this neighbourhood to built the Radio-Canada tower and  his parking lots.
As we were in may, the cherry trees were in full blossom. So it is the bonus pic for today.

They are still in business. They are a division of Seaport Intermodal from Toronto.  I think that they do a lot of transborder work.  I have always seen many of their trucks crossing the border in Lacolle.

Here a few more from Notre-Dame Street and the port of Montreal.

A day cab, an old Ford , for the Rosedale Group.

For those who are nostalgic about Ford heavy truck, an Aeromax pulling a tank.

Convoi was a fleet from the Montreal area. Few years after I last sight of them.

A Day & Ross city tractor.

Highland was often seen then pulling cans.

A Mack R model with a bunk pulling a can.

For a bonus, another Mack , this one from Mrs Gagne collection. This pic was pic around the end of the seventies and the truck is identified to Transport Bellemare. I wonder if it's the same company than the heavy hauler of today.

For this series, I was back from Montreal to my hometown of Sherbrooke Qc. Those pics were taken  around town during the first week of June 2000.

I took this  W Model Volvo from Muir's Cartage out of Concord ON along the road.  A little later when I was back in town, I saw him unloading at the local Futur Shop store.

Cooney Transport is from Belleville ON. I think that Lingar was a carrier that have been taken over by them.

Found those two movers parked at a local hotel. They are from Househod Movers out of St-John's NL  with also locations in some other Atlantic Canada towns.

While scanning my negatives from Spring and Summer 2000  I see that I was quite on the move then.  But it was  just a few years after retirement and everything was a pretext to go out and take pictures.  I am a little more quiet today.

The few next series were taken about mid-June 2000. I had kept some benevolent jobs and I had frequent meetings in Montreal or Quebec City. This time I was on my way to Quebec and I had made a detour by the  old Irving Truck Stop in St-Liboire  to have chances to take more trucks.

The next two pisc were taken when I left my hometown of Sherbrooke Qc.

Transby is a small fleet, maybe half a dozen trucks, based in Warwick Qc. They are still in business today.

Arthur Cuming is also a small fleet, this one based in Cookshire Qc.  They do mostly  flat bed work.

The next five pics were taken at the old Irving Truck Stop in St-Liboire.

Tri-Line is from Calgary. At the time they were seen quite often in Quebec.  I have not seen them around for quite some time now.

Brenway was from Fredericton NB.  A nice fleet but I lost sight of time in the following years.

Stonewood were from Petitcodiac NB. They were a division from an investment Group who was owning among other things sawmills.  Around the middle of the decade , I understand that they came in a sort of
financial problem  and it was the end of the trucking division.

Mc Burney was a nice fleet based in Hagersville ON. Last time I saw one of their trucks was in the first weeks of 2009. While doing a search for this series, I saw that all their equipment was in an auction in the spring of 2009.

And as a bonus, this big Pete wrecker from R M trucks service, a truck repair facility that was located  then at the old Irving in St-Liboire.

I hope that you are not too tired looking at those old pics. Here is a few more taken at the old St-Liboire Irving in mid June 2000. Any way, with  the cold weather we have this winter, it is very difficult to go out truck spotting.

Thompson's Terminal, Toronto. I will see them only once in a while in the next 15 years.

Bulk Carrier PEI from Cornwall PEI.

TCT Logistics  from Calgary.  They will be growing by acquisitions in the next following years and  all of a sudden they went under.

A small line-up : Leon Furniture from North York On, RG MacLeod from Moncton NB and Central Equipment from Truro NS. MacLeod may have closed or been taken over toward the end of the decade. Central Equipment , a distributor of farm & industrial equipment ,  may have sold his private fleet  sometime in the decade.

Brookville Carriers from St-John NB (van division) and Truro NS ( flat bed division ). I think that they were already members of the Contrans Group then.

Economy Carriers from Calgary Ab.

As a bonus this poster I took from a booklet published in 1943 by General Motor and relating the company contribution to the war effort. From mid 1942 to 1945, about all the trucks coming out of the assembly lines were  to be used by the Army . Very few trucks were built for civilian use except if they were to make a direct contribution to the country  effort of  war. On this poster we can see some of the model built by GM for the March to Victory.

Thank's guys. Here is another series. Those pics were taken along roads leading to the Pierre-Laporte  bridge during this trip to Quebec City  around mid June 2000.

Peterbilt trucks were still rare in Quebec at this time. I don't know about this carrier, maybe a one truck outfit  hauling produces from the USA.

Thibodeau was one of the oldest Quebec carrier. They were to be taken over by Transforce later in the decade. A few years after their assets were merged with TST and Kingsway.

Dussault is a wood chip hauler . They are still in business but as a division of the Charette Wood Products from Joliette.

Before being taken over by Transforce in the following years, Besner had a small specialized division.

Forestville was a nice small fleet that was started on the Quebec North Shore. They were to be taken over by Transforce a few years after. They were operated by TFI as a division for a short period of time. Their gasoline hauling division was sold to Jacques Auger if my memory is right and their chemical division was integrated  with other TFI divisions to form Kingsway Bulk.

F.Gilbert is a big general contractor from Chicoutimi . They have also a trucking division.

Thibodeau was one of the first large Québec fleets to operate those aerodynamic T-600 KW introduced in 1985 claimed
to reduce wind drag by 40%. If I remember those Thibodeau KW had a Cat 3306 engine.

Thank's guys. Here is another series for this thread. Pics were taken during the second half of June 2000 in the Quebec City area.

This FLD have the typical livery of Bourque Express from Mont-Joli during this period. .  After 50 years in the trucking business, M.Bourque have sold his fleet to the owner of Dynamic Transport  out of Eel River Jonction  NB a few years ago.

Transport Lebon was an important bulk hauler based in Chicoutimi Qc. They were taken over by Transforce in 1998 . They were operated as a TFI division  for a few years then  they were merged with others  TFI bulk fleets to form Kingsway Bulk.

This GMC General  with the Allied colours was from Nova Scotia. He was  pulling a NAVL trailer.  I can't remember the name of the agent .

Transport Maltais from Chambly Qc was an important heavy hauler. They had bought the year before  the heavy haul division of Canadian-American Transportation ( CAT) from
Coteau-du-Lac. In 2008, they were taken over by their main competitor, Transport Bellemare from Trois-Rivieres.

Most of the time, in Quebec, I have seen J&R Hall trailers pulled by Drumbo Transport tractors. Both fleets are from Ayr ON.

Transport Ruest from Mont-Joli was a  one truck outfit.  The owner , M.Ruest, was taking a meticulous care of his 1999 Classic powered by a 525 HP N 14 Plus. When he sold it , a few years ago , the truck had about 2 millions km on the clock but was  looking better then new. Ruest was , most of the time , an independent trucker but when this picture was taken he was leased to Bourque.  Bourque had then a flat bed division . By the mid-decade, this division was phased out.

Bourque Express always had some outstanding flagships. This superb W-900 was one of them  in the nineties. M.Bourque had a big pic of this truck in his office  and when visiting him one day, I took a pic of the pic and I give it to you as a bonus.

Bourque did change alot since then.. Since Dynamic bought it, Bourque is converting over Freightliner trucks. The 388 that they have are going away if i'm not mistaking.  I know alot about Dynamic since they're not too far from where I am. It's a good fleet. Bourque will be alot like them. All Freightliner fleet. Even though Dynamic have 2 Prostar daycabs. We'll have to wait and see where it goes. It's just sad to see all those really nice trucks going away.

Thank's guys.  Excuse me if I took a little break but I am back now.  I have just  complete my scanning of my pics from 2000 . I have nearly 2000 pics.  Enough to be able to make  a good selection.

Rosedale day cab. They are from Toronto but they may have a terminal in the Montreal area because  I almost always see day cab with them.

An old Volvo . Lot of those Volvo WA at the time. Networks  will be taken over by Travelers Transportation  from Brampton On in the following years.

Midland Transport out of Dieppe NB.  Peterbilt was still rare in Quebec  at that time but carriers from Ontario and Atlantic Canada  were already familiar with them.

City Express, a mover from Edmonton Ab was parked at a local hotel.

Classy Transport.  If my memory is right, it was a  one truck outfit from a little place in Manitoba.

a terminal in Granby and Québec City.

Thank's guys for your comments. Here is a series of miscellaneous pics taken around my hometown of Sherbrooke Qc during July 2000. Pics are not of great quality. At the time the film I was using and the material  were not adequate for  taking truck in movement.  Photographic material have changed a lot in those 15 years.

Yanke Transfer are from Saskatoon. They have been taken over by Celadon last year.

DM Breton are from St-Honore in Beauce County. They are still in business and Kenworth users.  T-600 have been replaced by T-2000 and now the T-2000 are on their way to be replaced by T-700 and  I may have seen a T-680. Their livery is now silver.  I guess that this old trailer have been put out of service for a long time now.

I would not be surprised if  this old Binder is still in the Big R Express fleet. They take great care of their trucks and keep them long long time.

Trans/West Logistics from Montreal run mostly big car today. This old Ford Louiseville  was already very tired at the time.

Consolidated Freightway ( CF ) trucks were in the area about every day. I think that they  folded down  in the following years.

This Mack was the only non Paccar truck I have ever seen in the Normandin fleet.

As a bonus this unknown  FLB.

The pictures, even when not top quality, are valuable today since they show things that are gone.
They act as memories.
The CF truck might have been a sub contracted carrier since it doesn't resemble the trucks the American fleet was operating.
In Ontario it was Canadian Freightways and the trucks looked identical to the pictures posted of Consolidated Freightways trucks in the States.

Here is some more miscellaneous July 2000 pics  , most of them taken around Sherbrooke Qc.

Transport  Bourret is an old mid size fleet based in Drummondville Qc. The fleet have always been a mix of Mack & International. The tractor seen here bear the company old livery.

This old KW W-900 is identified to B&R Gregoire , the  bulk division of Transport Gregoire.  This division haul limestone and    operate a sprayer service for this product. Transport Gregoire will be sold in the following years to Transforce  but I don't think that the limestone operations were included in the deal.

Marcellin Leblanc  was a  small van & tank  carrier based in Windsor Qc.The company was taken over a few year after 2000 by Bessette & Boudreault ( B&B). It was the start of the B&B expansion to become a major tank hauler.

Peterbilt trucks  were still rare in Quebec then and were used mostly by  owner-operators and independent truckers.  This one , Chapdeleine , is a bulk hauler.

Transport Nordique was one of the two Expeditex division that was kept by Alfred Hamel when he sold  his Group to Cabano in 1987. He sold it to Transforce  in 1999. Nordique is specialized in explosives transportation.

Global was from Dartmouth NS. In the following years the company came in some financial problems. After reorganization they took the name of GTL Transportation.
This pic was taken at a rest area a few km north of the  border in Stanstead Qc.

Most of those pics were taken at the Old St-Liboire Irving except for the last two that were  taken in Sherbrooke. All the pics are from July 2000.

Clarke Road Transport out of Halifax NS.  Clarke  will join the Transforce family in October of 2013.

Seafood Express are based in Charlottetown PEI.  They are still in business today.

Deveau's Trucking is a small fleet, maybe only one truck and they are based in Yartmouth NS.

I took a few pics of Kando trucks in 2000. They had a terminal in Dorval (Montreal ) and others locations in Western Canada.  I have never seen them again in the following years.

Transless was a small fleet from Irlande near Thetford Mines. They were taken over by Transforce in the first half of 2000. After a little time they were lost somewhere in the big TFI melting pot.

This unit bear the Papineau US division livery.  They were taken over by Transforce in 1998.   I guess that Transforce  livery   came for a good part from there.

Transless was integrated into the Transforce  TFI Transport 2 L.P. Group which included also Trans4 Logistics, CK Logistics,
ST-Lambert, Transpar, Transterm and Mondor. The division was operated as Tranless International until 2006. After that the
division was closed and I think but I'm not sure that it's assets was moved to ST- Lambert and Golden.

Thank's guys. Here is another series. Most of the pics were taken along Highway 10/55 in the Sherbrooke Qc area and TCH in the Drummondville area.

Thorco is for Cormier-Thorne, a fleet based in Delson that was taken over by Charette in the first months of 2007.

In 15 years of truck spotting I have only catched one truck from Decker Truck Lines out of Fort Dodge IA and it's this one.

RPS was a package hauler that was merged with Fedex in 1998. He was rebranded as Fedex Ground later in 2000.

Global was a fleet from Dartmouth NS. They came in some sort of financial problems not long after. After restructuration, they were rebranded as GTL Transportation

You can't miss those pale blue Snider Transport rigs. They were from Midland On. In the fall of 2008, they were taken over by Travelers Transportation out of Brampton ON.

Boost-Way was the TL division of Transport Fortier from Levis Qc. As I have said before  they were taken over by Transforce in the following years and after a while they were merged with Transport Couture.

So we will continue this series. I should have material to go up to Easter.

Megantic Transport was a nice middle size fleet .The founder , M.Sevigny, passed away in 1998.    The family kept the company  operating but in 2000 they accepted  the offer of M.Rene Bussieres.  He was already the owner of Retex, a bulk hauler et he had just bought Japiro and L'Islet.  All his companies  were to take this new livery.  But a year later he sold Megantic to Transport Robert and the remaining  fleets to Transforce.

I have always been intrigued by those UPS Mack MH Ultraliner day cab  and their ultra short cab.

R&L Moffatt is a small fleet, maybe a one truck fleet , based in Briercrest SK ( near Moose Jaw ). He was parked near a local plant who recycle tires to make rubber mats .

SLI is for Serge Lemay Inc., a small fleet based in Cap-de-la-Madeleine ( Trois-Rivieres ). They were taken over by Transforce in March of 2006 and merged with JC Germain.

Presby Environmental is a specialist in waste water treatment. They are based in Whitefield NH.

Transport Levy had some of their trucks painted the color of the oil companies they were serving.

The man behind Megantic Transport, Jean-Yves Sevigny have started his trucking career in 1951 with a new Chevy truck hauling pulp wood. In those time before deregulation the only way for a carrier  to go outside local work was to buy a competitors to get  their  authorities .  Over the time M.Sevigny have bought about all his competitors. In one of those transactions  looking for extra parking  and storage spaces they came out with a  truck service garage. This business was an authorized Mack & International  service and parts dealers. Here is a pic with the business building and their wrecker.  Garage name was Sevigny & sons. Pics are from the Sevigny family collection.

Thank's guys. Here is another series. Those  pics have been taken in August 2000.  The first two were taken from the car  on TCH in the Montmagny area and the others were seen around Sherbrooke Qc.

HBC Logistics were already using LCV at the time. I wonder what have happened to this private fleet after the Zellers stores have been  closed ? I have never seen them again on the road since even if The Bay stores  are still open for business.

Armour may have a tank division  which  are on a regular run. When I was travelling often to Eastern Quebec I was always  meeting them about the same area and the same time.

Bernieres from Quebec is a great user of Pete 387 but once in a while a few different trucks appear in the fleet.

At this time Fidele Tremblay ( FT ) fleet based in Ste-Luce, East of Rimouki ) had about 25-30 trucks. When traveling East bound on a Sunday, you could meet about all of them on  the more than 450 km stretch  of TCH between Drummondville & Rimouski.

A old Volvo WA  for Bruce R Smith. A lot o those Volvo were still in the road at this time.

Ronado from Riviere-du-Loup have  always been a big user of Freightliner trucks but once in a while they have added a sole Peterbilt, Kenworth or Volvo.

As a bonus a bad pic of a pic.  M. Tremblay was always talking with emotion of his little White 1971.

This thread continues to be awesome!!  Besides the Zellers, all of these were familiar in Upstate NY/Albany area where I grew up!  The Armour tank is something I've never seen before, cool!

That Zeller's LCV is quite unique as it is a B-train set up! The old FT White is sharp.

Here is some more. Pics 1-5 were taken at the Ultramar truck stop in St-Nicolas ( km 311 TCH). Pic six was taken at a rest area en route to Riviere-du-Loup.
Pic were taken around mid August 2000.

Polar Ice  Transport is, was , a temperature controlled carrier based in Edmonton Ab.  It was the first and last time I have seen them.

The Day Group is an important carrier serving Northern Ontario.  They are based in the North Bay area and they have  some special equipments designed to serve some specifics needs of their clients. Interesting pics of their equipment on their web site.

I have always been intrigued by this gold painted Couture Mack.

Classic Freight were a flat bed hauler based in Truro NS. I lost sight of them in the following years for a while  then  I started to see them again and they were now  based in Dartmouth. Reorganization ??? )

Tenold Transportation are based in Surrey BC. Then they were often seen hauling reels. In 2005 they were taken over by the Mullen Group. I still see them once in a while.

Emerald Transport were based in Moncton NB. I lost sight of them in the following years.

As a bonus another pic from Mrs Gagne Collection. This pic maybe be dated from the end of the seventies. Hurdman Bros was a heavy machinery mover  based in the Ottawa area. The Hurdman family is still in this business  under the Hub Machinery Mover name and is still in the Ottawa area.  The trailer in this pic is identified to Equipment Express but I don't know if there is links between both companies .

I like that bonus of Hurdman from Ottawa. I don't know of any relationship with Equipment Express but possibly Hurdman had a license to serve the delivery point of that load that Equipment Express didn't have. That was called "Trailer Interchange" and was quite common in the dry van business. I don't recall seeing it in the Oversize business but it apparently happened here.
I've not seen Polar Ice from Edmonton either; I don't think there are any pictures of it on the Forum or main webpage.

The pictures are all "Tres Bien!"  :)

Hurdman had the Quebec authority from Ontario . The heavy haulers used to switch trailers with them in Ottawa and wait while Hurdmans delivered to load in Quebec . They were eventually bought out by John Grant Haulage as they had the St.Lawrence Cement contract in the Ottawa region . Most of the heavy haul equipment was rolled over into Scott Woods fleet which Grant partially owned at that time .

Thank's for the added information guys. Here is another series from August 2000.

VTL St-Louis were from St-Louis du Ha! Ha !, a small place along Highway 185 between Riviere-du-Loup and the New Brunswick border. They had a sister business named VTL Peterbilt, maybe the oldest Peterbilt dealership in Quebec.  The Pete dealership was sold to Peterbilt Atlantic  a few years ago and the fleet was sold to Cascades Papers  the year after. The fleet was renamed Cascades Cabano and serve mostly the Cascades Cabano paper plant.

Transbois is an old carrier based in St-Pamphile Qc. They haul mostly wood products from logs, wood chips, lumber, etc.

Boost-Way  was the TL  division of Transport Fortier. I have ever told in this thread how this nice fleet was bought and later closed by Transforce.

Down-East Transport was a nice fleet based in Dieppe NB and hauling mostly lumber  most of the time on super-b. They were taken over and merged in the fleet of Atlantica Diversified Transportation Service ( ADTS) from Rexton NB in 1911.

GDN   is (was ? ) a small  flat-bed fleet with nice trucks and based in Neguac NB.  Last time I have seen one of their truck was in 2009.

I have told , earlier in this thread, what have happened with Levy Transport. At a time , they were one of the most important fleet in Quebec.

As a bonus  another pic from Mrs Gagne collection. Brockway were introduced in Quebec during the first years of the seventies. Very few trucks were ever sold  and it was short story. One of the few Brockway sold then was to R.Lavoie, a trucker based in Coaticook Qc.

Yes, I must agree though,  all awesome pictures, Brockway takes the win too!

Thank"s guys. Here a few more pics from the end of  August 2000. Most were taken at the St-Nicolas Ultramar.

Jenkins are from Amqui in the Matapedia Valley. Their fleet is mostly Kenworth but they had also a few Ford like this Aeromax.

Big Freight are from Winnipeg. We often see them hauling Arctic Cat ATV.

Eagle Trucking were a nice liquid hauler based in Havelock NB. About 4-5 years ago they were taken over by R&G Transport from Sussex NB. Both fleet were merged to form Eagle Transportation System. Only R&G milk hauling division kept the original name.  For this pic, the driver asked me to be photographed in front of his truck. I obliged with pleasure.

Brookville Carrier from Truro NS with a load of BRP (Bombardier ) recreational vehicles. Brookville were then member of the Contrans family  .

Marcan was the long haul division of the Thibodeau Group. I have ever told in this thread how they were taken over by Transforce and closed a few years later.

McAuley's were an old New Brunswick fleet based in Centreville. They came in some kind of financial problems by the mid 2000 decade and they were closed.

The Brookville name is still listed under flatdecks in the Contrans website but not for dry van. That is Laidlaw.
Contrans is now owned by Transforce but so far there are no obvious changes.

I am still at the end of August  2000 with my inventory of pics taken during  this year. I still have  quite a few pics  from the fall to post. Maybe at the end of March  I will have all year 2000 covered and I will return  to truck spotting.

The first three pics were taken at the St-Nicolas Ultramar while the next four were seen at the Old Irving in St-Liboire.

At this time we still  see quite a few of those International COE for Schneider National and JB Hunt. This one was  from Schneider glass hauling division.  Usually those trucks was taking return loads with lumber or peat moss. In the following years this division was sold to Maverick.

About the mid nineties, Transport Robert have bought the hazmat trucking division of Chagnon and renamed it Rollex.

Thornton Trucking was a temperature controlled carrier  based in Jefferson Ga. I have seen them again once in a while  in the following years then lost sight of them.

Connors Transfer is an important reefer hauler based in Stellarton NS.

Fundy Express Transport is also from NS , Aylesford if my memory is right.

Here is a third big reefer hauler from NS, Eassons Transport for Kentville.

As a bonus, a Century from Besner Atlantic.  Besner Transport  had this Atlantic division and a Central division. After they were taken over by Transforce.  Not long after the acquisition, they had a problem with the union in one of those divisions.  The division was closed and  the company was reorganized..

Those Schneider trailers was jointly developed by a dedicated Schneider team and the Indiana trailer manufacturer Wabash
National. Those flatbed trailers could open, butterfly fashion, to carry a load of glass one way and completely different products
on the backhaul. Schneider Specialized division becomes the largest US glass carrier by the mid-90's.

Here is some more pics, all of them from the last week of August 2000.

The next two pics were taken along Rte 20  a few km West of the St-Nicolas Ultramar truck stop.

Whell-Away Inc was a small fleet based in Kensington PEI.  During the following years they were sold to a NB carrier. If my memory is right, it was Woodstock.

The next three pics were taken at the old St-Liboire Irving.

I can't remember the name of the New Brunswick carrier who was hauling this old Mack DM 800.

Choice Reefer System  ( CRS ) are from Belleville ON.

After a little break,  I am ready for a last sprint with this thread.

As the name say, Express Havre St-Pierre is from Havre St-Pierre, a little town on the Quebec North Shore  230 km further northeast from Sept-Iles and
about 1200 km from Montreal.  The trucking company was started when the road was opened  with Sept-Iles. At the beginning, they were hauling  mostly for
the business of the Vigneault Group but over the years they have grown to become a major player in the transportation  for Northern Quebec and Labrador.

Lord & Fils was a small trucking company based  in Ste-Perpetue -de-L'Islet. They went under in the following years.

Davis Specialized Carriers were an important heavy hauler based in Sackville NS.  Some years ago they have ceased their operation and  some of the assets
were sold to Mills Heavy Haul from Halifax area.

Jenkins is from Amqui in the Matapedia Valley.  At that time they still have 4-5 of those K-100 pulling most of the time heavy loaded  super-b. In this pic, they most be heading to the USA with a small two axles trailer.

Demers was an old Quebec fleet. During the eighties they were bought by Cameron-Ashley and became a private fleet for the building material distributors. During the 2000
decade, Cameron-Ashley changed his name to Guardian and after a little while the private fleet was closed.

Mirald was a nice  medium size fleet based in Boucherville Qc. They were taken over by Transforce  in August 2002. Over the time the management was transferred to Papineau.

Have really enjoyed this thread and the look back, sure with some good weather ahead you will be out taking present day photos, like the Lord & Fils FLD120 and the Jenkins K100 Aerodyne, believe they had a blue one a few shades lighter then Steelcase blue that was also a real sharp looking K100, also like the Jules Savard Freightliner Coe from previous page..

I guess that winter is back this morning.  A good time to stay inside and to continue working on this thread.

Verchères Express is a nice small fleet  based in Vercheres Qc. I have always liked this old family business.

Here is another truck from Levy Transport. I have  ever told the history of this carrier.

ABB is for Asea ,Brown Boveri a big international manufacturer of electrical components. They have a small fleet of heavy haulers to delivers  big generators, transformers ,etc. This  big Autocar was one of them along with a few Pacific.

RR Mondor was already a division of Transforce then.  I have also told the history of the Mondor earlier in this thread.

Durocher Transit  is a  flat bed hauler based in St-Felix-de-Kingsey.  Around 2006-2007 they will be taken over by Transforce and renamed Durocher International. They have kept their original livery up to a few years ago.

Some among us are nostalgic of Ford Heavy trucks. Here is a Aeromax for Trimac of Calgary.

Maybe one Ford is not enough, here is a second one as a bonus.  This LTL 9000 was owned by a broker  with Gregoire . By the way, Gregoire  will also be part of the Transforce family later in the decade.

Interesting details on that big LTL9000. The broker was trying to sell it.
I wonder what was the meaning of the graphic on the sleeper - Macadam Country?

It appears that ABB has a larger operation in Quebec than Ontario.
Do they still operate a Private Fleet?

They still have a private fleet. I have seen them often on the Quebec North Shore where there is quite a few big hydro-electric  projects. Here is a few pics
I took  in the last few years. I have somewhere a pic of a Pacific for them. I will try to post it as a bonus pic in this thread before the end of the month.

Thank's guys for the comments. Here is a series taken in the first half of September 2000 around my hometown of Sherbrooke Qc.

Kenmore Transportation were from Ayr ON. They were regular visitors in my area but the last time I got a pic of one of their trucks was in 2002.  I wonder what did happened to them ?

L.Bernard& Fils is a small carrier based in St-Honore in Beauce County.   I think that this Ford Aeromax was a kind of special edition.

USA Truck from Van Buren Ark. were seen almost daily in the first half of the 2000. I guess that they were hauling automotive parts.

This COE from Erb was also a regular in the first years of the 2000.

SGT/2000 still have a few of those K-100 at the time.  The year after they were for sale in their yard in St-Germain.

Bourret from Drummondville with a combo  in their old livery. Bourret always had a mix of Mack and International in their fleet.

To complete my trio of COE trucks, here is a Mack MH Ultraliner  that I have catched on the Island of St-Marteen in the Carabbeans in January of 2005. Lot of old North American trucks have a second or third career there.

That SGT K100 is just super!!  As is the Erb IH flattop cabover, don't see a lot of those with the windscreen set up like that, interesting!  I always liked that Ford Aeromax highrise sleeper.  You're right, I think it was a special edition, I believe one of the plastic model makers had a snap-tite model kit of that exact truck that I put together as a kid.

I bet Mr Archer will have some details on Kenmore, I want to say they got absorbed by some other Ontario based company.

Yes Gérard it's sure the Vascor trailer is full of automotive parts because Vascor ( Value-Added Services ), a joint venture
berween the US based APL Logistics and the Japanese maritime logistics firm Fujitrans, is totally dedicated to the automotive
sector. The company is one of the three main Toyota 3PLS alongside Transfreight and Ryder. As an exemple in 2006 Vascor
managed 1,000 to 1,200 routes a week using its own trucks and a small number of core carriers like USA TRUCK.

Sometime we call truck drivers " macadam Cowboy " and country music is very popular with them .  So   I guess that " macadam country " is in relation with the road and country music.

Here is another series. Those pics were taken during the second half of September 2000 from an overpass over Highway 40 in Montreal West ( Cavendish near the IKEA store ).

WJ Deans is an old steel hauler based in Delson Qc and with another terminal in Stoney Creek ON.

GT International is a big can mover.  In recent years we see many can haulers using old Freightliner Century and FLD. Around year 2000, old Ford Louiseville were the favourites.

P.A.M Transport is an American carrier based in Tontitown Ark. I don't know if they come often in Quebec. For one, I have  only seen them once and it was when I took this pic.

Canpar Courier is a small packages hauler based in Brampton ON. They were taken over by Transforce in July 2002 and they are still operated as a TFI division.

HandR Transport is  a big temperature controlled hauler based in Lethbridge Ab. At that time , they were running many KW W-900 and T-800.

BLM Transportation Group is based in Kitchener On.

As a bonus a former WJ Deans K-100. Found this pic in a stack of pic I have scanned for a friend. I think that the pic may come from my friend Gerald collection.

Transport Bourassa from St-Jean Freightliner.  I don't know if it's what we call an extended cab.

Gerard, the reason why this cab looks a little strange is because it isn't a real conventional.
It's a COE from the old Mercedes line up.
Wasn't even their cab for the bigger engines but for the midrange straight trucks(wasn't ever sold as a semi tractor)
90% were sold as daycab straight trucks.
Here's a link to how that cab was most commonly used and seen on the roads.

Thank's guys for all the informations you add to this thread.  Here is another series, this one too from the Cavendish overpass in Montreal  at the end of September 2000.

A fleet from Ontario that I have seen a few time in 2000 and never after that: Pioneer Cartage pulling Patrick Transport trailers.

Transport RC was a bulk carrier from the Montreal area.  I think that they were hauling mostly flour. They were taken over by Transforce in the following years and immediately merged in the company melting pot, possibly with Kingsway Bulk.

Here is another Ontario carrier that I have seen a few time in 2000 and never again after. I think that Barry Moore is ( were ) from Sudbury area.

A rare sight, a Mack Midliner of Renault origin used as a tractor. This one was with Quick X. BTW Quick X was also one of the many dozens carriers taken over by Transforce.  For them , it was in the fall of 2011  and it seem that they kept opering them  as a division.

Kriska Transport out of Mississauga with their old livery.

As a bonus, a pic of a FLD 120 from the private fleet of Tim Horton. This pic was taken at the Mont-Joli  Tim in October 2000.

Barry Moore transport was on Mavis road between Dundas and Burnamthorpe for years. I don't remember them as being a dump truck company, I always remembered them as a flatbad carrier. They had a fleet of red R model Macks. The company is now Moore Brothers after the father passed away and are located in Brampton.

So here is another series. This one was taken around the Montreal area in the last week of September 2000.

Laidlaw Bulk were seen once in a while then while today they are all over the place.

Nu-West was a small fleet based in St-Laurent ( western part of Montreal ).  I don't know much about them. Maybe one of those carriers hauling produces from the West Coast.

This FLB was leased to Transport MB from Alma Qc. They were hauling  precast structures and walls made  by BPDL  also from Alma. This FLB was still on the road hauling these products for at least 8-10 years  after I took this pic.

Mirald was from Boucherville. They were taken over  by Transforce in the following years.

A Ford Aeromax with a short bumper.  What was the purpose of this modification ?

This old Mercedes for Yellow was supposed to be the bonus of this series,

Convoi was  a carrier often seen in those years. I lost sight of them in the following years.

Nice catch on the Yellow MB, never seen one in that fleet here!

The short bumper has 2 variables, some say it is for cooling the steer tires while others have said it prevents the bumper from striking the tire in a front end (side) collision. I guess with the modern day trucks there is more frontal air flow?? Seems less to me but anyway!

Some more pics from the end of September 2000 taken around Sherbrooke Qc.

Reliable Carriers. The first time and also the last time I have seen a truck of this carrier live.

I was seeing Jevic trucks once in a while in my neck of the wood. They were closed  sometime in 2008.

Transport Marco was a  small carrier based in East Broughton Qc. This Pete was the flagship of this fleet.  At a time, the owner of this fleet have bought a  regional railway and came in full of problems when he came to operate it.  I think that it was then the beginning of the end for this fine fleet.

Transport Asselin from St-Georges-de-Champlain was the Quebec biggest hauler of wood products. They came under  in mid year 2005.

Rip-O-Bec is a manufacturer of bedding. They sold they private fleet to Hyndman   in the first half of the 2000. A few years ago they started a new long haul fleet  name MPM.

Transport Boutin et their long haul division , Transnat , have always been big users of International  trucks and on a lesser level Freightliner.  But once in a while they have bought few units of other brands like this  Ford Aeromax.

For more than 12 years, the curve between Sherbrooke and Magog have been my favorite photo spot. Once in a while, I had to clean up  all those bushes that were growing so fast. A day I came back to the site and the DOT had cleared down to the grass all the bushes and trees around.  I did not feel confortable in this open space and I have moved about 1 km uphill.

In the first week of October 2000 , I made a trip to the Mont-Joli area. Here is a selection of pics I took then:

Here is one of the 4-5 KW K-100 that Transport Jenkins from Amqui was still opening then. I don't know what kind of engine they had in those trucks but you could hear them coming from miles away in the big hill of the Matapedia Valley.

CF Morin from Pohenegamook was  a big hauler of wood products in Eastern Quebec then. A little more then 10 years later they will be taken over by their main competitor, Transport Gino Bois from Mont-Joli.

I had forgotten about this old Ford Aeromax for Yellow , a big  Canadian  chain of shoes stores.

Mondor had been taken over by Transforce in 1998. It was the first time I have seen them with their new TFI colours.

Rapid Trans Refrigerated Express was a temperature controlled carrier from Ontario. I lost sight of them in the following years.

Expediteur Japiro was a carrier based in Montmagny Qc. Two years after they would be taken over by Transforce and merged  with other TFI acquisition  in a new division named Select.

This bonus pic was taken a few km East of Mont-Joli Qc along highway 132. It show the entrance of the Matapedia Valley  that will lead you about 100 km East to the border with New Brunswick ( Campbelton )

About the engine of the KW K-100 I would guess for the roar of a Detroit two strokes, probably the V-8.
I enclosed 2 youtube exemples. The first one is about  the sound of the V-8 and the second one about the sound of the V-6.

The sound of the second one is not the sound of the V-6 but rather the one of the 6 in line.

It's tough for mike's to pick up the subtle over-tones of 2-cycle, or speakers to properly reproduce those sounds.

On those YouTube menu's, there's several V-12's, most of which are only trying to be obnoxious & loud, not beautiful.

Probably the closest to the signature V-12 idle difference is the recording there, from an ATHS show, of "Dirty Dozen". Gives just a hint of the V-12 difference, mellower.

Think "Dirty Dozen" is/was from PA, & belongs to a good friend, of one of my best friends (God rest his soul).

What was interesting about the Mondor KW and the photo I enclosed which date back from 2001 is the distinctive signature
( red letters and red swoop ) of Mondor in the early days of its adoption of the Transforce livery. Things change later.

This series is a selection of pics taken  during my return trip from Mont-Joli to Quebec City by mid-October 2000.

Fortier from St-Henri de Levis  taken on Highway 132 in Mont-Joli.  They were taken over by TFI in the following years  and not too long after  this nice fleet was closed.

RF Chamberland from St-Agatha Me in a rest area West of Riviere-du-Loup.  This nice fleet from Maine is still one of my favourite.

Rivard is a excavation contractor from Ste-Anne de la Perade with a transport division. Always nice Mack in this small fleet  like this CL 700 Elite Edition.

Transport Mario Asselin from Amqui is now running Western Star and Peterbilt.  Then they had also some FLiner Classic and even Ford LTL 9000.  Sad news however, the founder, M.Asselin passed away a few  months ago.

This old KW wrecker  was supposed to be the bonus pic and he appear in the middle of the six pack.

JW Baughan were from Sackville NB. It was a nice old family business from the Atlantic. They  were sold or closed  in the following years.

Milltown Trucking are from St-Stephen NB. They are still well in business but they have lost this nice traditional livery.

I like the selection of B train flat decks.
When did lumber start moving wrapped in plastic?
That's mostly what is seen today.

I think, Rob, that the lumber wrapped in plastic is  kiln-dried wood.

The next series was taken toward the end of October 2000 during a trip to Quebec City.

TDL was a small fleet based in Sherbrooke Qc. They were taken over by Transforce in the following years and  merged rapidly into another TFI division.

Rediker is a granite hauler  based  in Beebe Qc.

Canadian Tire had a nice fleet then. I wonder if it was company trucks or brokers ?

A FLB for Air Liquide. I have not seen many COE trucks with them over the years.

Transol was a bulk hauler based in St-Mathieu-de-Beloeil. They were  taken over by Laidlaw Bulk in the following years .

Transport Boutin was pulling trailers for Reimers Express Lines  in Southern Quebec then. One day  they were parked at a local shopping center with this strange trailer.  Canadian Great Western Express was a fleet from Winnipeg that have been merged in Reimers in the first years of the nineties.  I guess that some of their old trailers were still used by Reimers.

As a bonus, a pic that  I have scanned from a special publication  for the 100 th anniversary of Beebe in 1973. It show the Rediker fleet then.

Thank's guys. I am near the end of this thread. This series was taken  in the beginning of November in the Quebec City area for the first pics and in Mont-Joli for the remaining pics.

St-Germain Transport.  A few years ago the founder have sold the assets of the company to his sons and they have started a new business named St-Germain Express. They
have kept the tradition of special looking trucks.

Transport Yves Labonté ( TYL)  was from Victoriavile.  They were already in the Transforce family then. They were operated as a division for a little while then  placed under
the management of JC Germain.

Fastrax is a division of Day & Ross from Hartland NB. I took this pic of a nice International 9300 near my homeplace.

Alain Landry  was then a little fleet at his beginning.  They have grown quite fast in the following years but  at about the half of the decade, they were taken over by Transforce.
They were operated as a division for a few years than merged with another division.

Les Entreprises Lechasseur were a Mont-Joli general contractor. Their fleet was almost all Kenwoth but  they had a few odd looking trucks like this Astro dump truck.  Two years ago, they were taken over  by a big multi-national organization. I can't remember if is was Sintra or DJL.

CTMA is the trucking division of Navigation Madeleine, the company who  operate  the ferries  between PEI and the Magdelene Islands.

Here is the typical look and livery of Bourque Express  trucks then. Two years ago Bourque Express was sold to Dynamic Transport from Eel River  NB. They are still based in Mont-Joli and operated as  Dynamic temperature controlled division.

I guess that before switching to Kenworth , this contractor fleet may have been mostly GMC. Here is a General for them that  I have catched in 2006.  With those paving contractors, old trucks are  often modified to do  auxiliary tasks.

My mother will be 96 on April 5 (Easter ). Over the years about all of her relatives, friends, neighbours  of her generation have passed away. When I told her that  somebody is gone , she always say : " Son, one day or another you always come to the end of the road ".  Well, on another hand,  I think that I have come to the end of the road with this thread. During this winter I have scanned over 1700 negatives of pics I have snapped  during year 2000. I have posted about 25% of them  here.  It's fantastic to see  that things change so much in only 15 years in the trucking world.  I will make a special posting  to end this thread. I have made a selection of COE trucks I have catched during November and December of year 2000.

Here is another K-100 for Transport Jenkins from Amqui Qc. I took this pic in November  in Mont-Joli Qc. Truck was heading West on highway 132.

This Landstar Inway FLA was resting in  the parking lot of a local  (Sherbrooke Qc ) shopping center  in the first week of November 2000.

About mid-November 2000, I made a stop at the old St-Liboire Irving on my way back from a visit to Montreal.

I found there this  1997 Pete 362 for G&K Morse out of Centreville NS.

Two other G&K trucks were there  this particular day, a pair of 1999 KW K-100. They have kept those trucks during many years in the 2000 decade. I think that they may have been kept for local work when they were replaced by Argosies for the long run.

On my way to Quebec City, at the end of November, I have catched through the windshield of the car, this Western Star hauling a Schlumberger truck. Seem to be  a British Foden.

Along HIGHWAY 20  , near , Quebec City, I have catched in December this Mack Roll Off  off a scrap metal  dealer.

This Couture Argosy was catched at the St-Nicolas Ultramar  between Christmas and New Year . And I remember, it was pretty cold this day.

Hi Gerard,

This was a nice thread to go through, This FLD-120 at the time would of been Unit #97 from H.O. Bouchard, They had a bunch of FLD-120's back in the day, But, Only Two still remain in the Fleet today and that's Unit's #87 and #91, I've also seen Units #92 and #96 some where on this forum as well, But, I am unsure as to if the same person took the same two picture's of both Units, Is an FLD-120 from the H.O. Bouchard Fleet is like a Peterbilt 379 from The R.F. Chamberland Fleet, They are now a thing of the past and only very few remain in both fleets today, As for the Aeromax from L.Bernard& Fils would of been known as the Aeromax Hardrunner, They only made a number of the Hardrunner's, The Jenkins Ford Aeromax from the post you made on March 9th back in 2015 would of also been another Ford Aeromax Hardrunner

I had planned to scan  the  near 100 strrips of films ( about 2000 pics ) I caught in  2001. I have  only done about  a little more than half of that now. I will continue and keep this thread open. Here and then I will  add some more pics. For today, I will have  a special Freightliner COE series I caught in the first week of July 2001.

Real Grondin was big saw mill and they had a  trucking division in Beauce County. The fleet was all Mack but  in the spring of 2001, the Mack dealer was repossessing more and more trucks. They may have decided  to replace them with Freightliners. I have just seen this Argosy and not long after it was the end of the trucking division.

Transport Leblanc was a nice small fleet based in Warwick Qc.  Around the end of 2001, they were taken over by Transforce and merged with one of the LTL fleet, I think that is  was Select.  I never heard about them after and I have never seen this Argosy in another TFI fleet.

Secure was a company specialized in wood waste recovery. I think that it was used for  heating purposes.

And I will end this series with this FLB from Transport Lajeunesse from East-Angus Qc.  They had a nice fleet hauling among other things  lumber and wood products. They had also a division  selling saw dust and other wood wastes used for bedding.  Like Grondin . they were another victim of the crisis in the forest industry then. Lot of saw mills were closing.  Saw dust  and other  wood wastes  became rare.   Trucking companies working in this field had a hard time and many could not survive.

Transport Leblanc was taken over by Transforce in 2003 and integrated into Selact.

I enclosed a Transport Leblanc tractor with the Select signage. The photo was taken in 2005 in Montréal.

L.Bernard& Fils is a small carrier based in St-Honore in Beauce County.   I think that this Ford Aeromax was a kind of special edition.

It's called the Ford Aeromax Hard Runner, They were offered for a very short time becoming available during a half year in late 1991 and ended coming off of the market in 1995, I'm not sure on an exact number on how many of them were actually made, But, There was only a very handful number of them made during a 5 1/2 year period of time...

Nice, enjoying the photos in this thread. One of my FB friends just bought one of these that was built for the Ford Racing Division during 1990, think it was a test rig.

if your wondering what happened to Kenmore Transportation, I got a story for you. My father worked for them late 90's until they closed. I believe he went from BLM to Kenmore then to Challenger until 2016. but anyways the story goes They got all this equipment for a contract and the contract fell threw. and he was stuck with all this equipment and I guess went bankrupt. anyways, I forget who owned kenmore, but He opened another trucking company in the same area.
