Title: TMC Takes Delivery of First Peterbilt 579
Post by: sj3mark on September 07, 2012, 04:22:04 PM
They officially announced this earlier today.  There are no pics other than the one below that was on Facebook at this time.  From the looks of the photo, it appears that TMC will be specing them with side mounted stacks.  According to what was posted on Facebook, TMC will also be ordering quite a few new 388s.  This may not be the case, but I suspect with that with these recent orders, that TMC will soon be phasing out their 379/378s and 387s for newer more "eco-friendly" rigs.  I personally can't wait to see one in the black & chrome, but until then this is all I've got:

Glad they've spec'd them with sidestacks, that should look nice 8) The facebook page said they had ordered 1500 units, with 388s part of the plan for the future. I think aero trucks for the most part look good when paired with a sharp paint scheme and kept clean, but as a fan of the traditional rigs too, its nice to see they're still buying them ;)

About time TMC orders some new trucks.

With that said... how can they claim they've had the first 579?  Maybe the first major order.  I recall seeing a Long Haul Trucking 579 not too long ago, unless this press release is out dated somewhat.

It's not portrayed very well, but you are correct there are several fleets out there that already have 579s (Long Haul Trucking, Werner, etc.), but I just didn't type the title correctly...  It's meant to say TMC takes delivery of their first Peterbilt 579.  Sorry for any confusion that may have caused.

When I read the article, I was under the impression that it was Peterbilt's first 579 built heading to TMC, not TMC's first 579.

I don't think I've seen a 579 for TMC.  I'll have to keep a lookout!

I read the article and assumed they meant TMC's first 579, so I guess that article is open to interpretations, hehe. :)

Well here we go!  Their first 579 has been delivered and is on the road in their boat division.  According to Facebook, the first 50 are in the process of being built and will be for the boat division, due to them only having a single bunk.  They are expecting fleet trucks with a two bunks to be delivered in early spring, seeing as Peterbilt is still in the engineering processes of the dual bunk sleeper for the 579.  Appropriately, the first 579 was assigned to a driver who's been with TMC 23 years.  More info and pictures can be seen here:  http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151184050578339.454225.102930888338&type=1

Where are they going to put the sign light? Maybe on the mirror bracket. Either way, I've basically only seen 579's browsing on TruckPaper, it actually looks really good with the visor and lights ready for the road.

I never seem to understand the double bunk option for a fleet(s) with predominantly solo drivers.  I know, resale, blah blah blah....thank god my Pete at Marten was before they ordered them with double bunks.

I still do not like the looks of the PeteLiner, even if it's Black and Chrome.  :-\ The paint on those bumpers will not last long...

Very nice trucks. I see from the earlier facebook posting and pictures they are ditching the supersingle tires as well.

Much better with that polished bumper!  But this design still needs full chassis skirts to look right.  The aero cab, hood and the sleeper look gangly without the chassis skirts.  IMHO.

I actually like the 579 better without side skirts, and with stacks, just like this one. And the chrome bumper and mirrors sure help a lot, too! Very sharp. :)

Was reading a post on Facebook about the TMC 579's and a driver from TMC spoke up and said that the driver side exhaust is a dummy.  :-\

Thinking real strong of doing the dummy-stack thing on my 50 KW. All it will ever do is idle over to ATHS shows, & single stack always sounds better. Exception to that is 2 exhaust manifolds, one per stack, so no "Y".

I know it looks better but, why would you waste money to buy an extra dummy stack? I mean it does nothing and it adds a little drag to a fleet truck.
Title: Re: TMC Takes Delivery of First Peterbilt 579
Post by: Steve_WI on March 15, 2014, 09:38:30 AM
If I remember correctly, TMC's initial 579s ordered had the dummy stacks and as the order has progressed into newer model years, they now come included with both functioning exhaust.  Maybe single exhaust was the only option available at the time Peterbilt introduced the 579 and has later been revised.

Either way they sure do look sharp for being 579's.  Too bad others don't follow in their footsteps.

Very nice looking rig for a aero truck even with dummy stack it will give the driver something to polish in his spare time.   Bob.

Dummy left hand stacks have been common for several years on the traditional cabs too.. with all the emissions equipment, it became difficult to route the pipes to the DPF without running a-foul of something under the cab - so a dummy stack and a pipe that terminates under the cab provides symmetry.    My mind tells me the customer should just eliminate the left air cleaner, do with a single RH exhaust and go with a 70's look.

I'll have keep my eyes peeled.  All the 389s they ordered awhile ago went through Allstate Peterbilt in South St Paul MN.

Black and chrome sure does look good! Way to much of a hassle to keep clean> IMO.

You can definablely say it's a hassle to keep clean again, Especially if you live in Northern State like and you are extreme neat freak, As for the Peterbilt 579's, R.F. Chamberland also finally ordered some back in 2014, By the end of this year, they should have a Total of 45 Peterbilt 579's in the Fleet, They plan to get rid of what's left in the of Peterbilt 387's, with the exception of one of them and they will probably also sell one of the last older Peterbilt 386's this year, Their First Peterbilt 579 was a 50th Anniversary 579 and also has a dummy stack on the drivers side, As far as Black & Chrome goes, I know how much of a hassle it is to keep, I own a 2007 Ford F-150 that's like that and this Summer it's getting painted and I can tell you one thing for sure, it isn't going to stay Black, It might look good, but, sometimes it's not worth the hassle
