Title: Random Volvos
Post by: Rob Archer on August 23, 2012, 04:04:15 AM
There are sure a lot of Volvos on the road around Toronto. They have taken the place of Ford as a common for both owner-ops and fleets tractor.
These are some I've seen this summer of 2012.
CUPRUM Transport - according to the US "Safer" site this is a one truck one driver outfit but there are at least 3; all Volvos.
This one was seen cruising down The 401 near Guelph -
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/bluejaysfan/Volvos/volvofreighthauler.jpg)
Gorski Bulk Transport; a Volvo ducked under the pedestrian bridge near the GO station.

HIGHLIGHT Motor Freight - these break the "white trucks" trend that is prevalent today.
IKON  Transport - there aren't too many steel haulers in Volvos but there are some like this IKON unit.
J.E.A.K. Logistics - a dry van freight hauler seen on the QEW.
LIQUID CARGO LINES - one of Trimac's latest aquisitions, this long time Clarkson(Mississauga) fleet has switched company tractors from KWT800's to Volvos.
MUSKET Transport - basically their entire fleet is grey coloured Volvos; this one is pulling a dry van.

Nice series! I really like the Highlight Motor Freight one. I've been seeing them running down here in PA quite a bit lately.

and we continue....

Musket, though, is primarily a container hauler. They have two yards near me; one where they store the containers and Melburn's old terminal where they park and service the power.
Here is a Musket with a Hanjin drybox
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/bluejaysfan/Volvos/muskettrans.jpg)
This is basically a tractor view; it is hooked to a reefer container.

Here is a pair of Volvos - Quebec based C.A.T. and a small carrier from Woodbridge ON - Advance Motor Freight.

IFS - Interstate Freight Systems is based in Brampton. Volvo seems to be their main tractor make.

Schneider might not run Volvos but some of their owner-operators do.

Reimer has many Volvo highway tractors and still painted in their traditional colours.

Tim Hortons is primarily a Volvo fleet. They still have some Freightliners but the Volvos are the majority.

Zav-Cor out of Stevensville (Fort Erie) is also primarily a Volvo fleet.
Truk-King is their dryvan division.

I'm sure I can find

Volvos sure can look boring (*). But it doesn't take too much to make them look sharp, either! Look at the Reimer VNL780, for instance. Or the Highlight VNL670. They're very sharp, and all it took was a paint job that wasn't all white, and some stripes. Heck, you don't even need stripes, come to think of it; look at the Tim Horton's daycab! It is perhaps the sharpest of all the Volvos here. :)  I hope you do find more, Rob. ;)

(*) = but so can any truck from any manufacturer, pretty much. ;)

Great series of Volvos! I like them a lot next to a Peterbilt 379. I think my favourite is the Ikon Volvo :D. About your comment on not too many steel haulers having them but I disagree. Look at Concord steel's fleet - all Volvo. Bruce R Smith is a lot of Volvo same with Samuel's O/O fleet, Laser Transport, a good number of Volvo's in those too! Now thinking about it I think I can count on my hand on the Steel Hauling fleets that don't have atleast 1 Volvo in them.

I think, LCH , that Peterbilt would be the "preferred" steel haulers tractor in this area.
I've seen this Volvo a few times and it always looks like it is barely geeting over the little hill between Highway 403 and Winston.

This one has the huge "mobile home" sleeper. Wee Willy told me this was the worst model truck he ever drove. No road feel and it always felt like it was skidding on ice - even in July.
Ameritruck is a freight hauler.

For Sure, spot on Correct!!
That first Volvo in that post is a long time O/O with his own trailer.

AHA...........the Infamous 120 Warning appears.
Picking up with some more......

Unknown with a reefer. Kind of a cool paint job in this era of "all white trucks".

This one is all white though. I shot him last September but didn't write the carrier name down. I believe he was from Manitoba.

Another reefer hauler, all white and Unknown.

This is the entire fleet of Petzo. This Volvo was parked on the Civic Holiday Monday at the Clarkson Petro Pass truck stop.

This red Volvo was also parked at the Petro Pass on the Holiday Monday.

A Volvo leased to TTR out of Oshawa was also sitting at that TS.

Has anyone seen this one before?

Saw it this evening on the QEW in the Niagara bound lanes.
It's also posted as the POTD.

I've always loved the looks of Reimer trucks. Them and the old green Kingsway trucks.

Rob,

That's a first for me too.  A white Donnelly Farms truck, and a Volvo at that.  Until now, I had always seen their blue Freightliners.

This Volvo from PH- PeterHodge  from Milton was sitting at the Oakville Tim Hortons on a rainly Saturday afternoon.
He was likely waiting for his trailer to be washed at the Tankwash.

Here are some from my collection from 2015 and early this year
