That truck would never be allowed on the road in the UK with those wheelnut covers. Those wind farms are taking over the world. They are just starting on one of 300 windmills in Scotland. Kind of reminds you of 'The Day of the Triffids' by HG Wells dont you think ??

Nice pictures Hank. Looking forward to many more from the trip. Agree with you Pat about 58; first time i had ever seen those windmill farms when we did a west coast delivery in 2000.

Enjoyed the train photo...I'm not much on those outlaw looking trucks, guess I have no flair :-D But very nice photos of that truck anyway.

What I have posted so far is the first two days and part of the third day of travel. More will come as I get time to go through the pictures and edit them.

I hope you enjoy them.

Hank,
Nice seeing trucks from the routes I've been running latelly. Matter of fact pretty sure I've seen a couple of those trucks in the past week or two... I was hoping you had caught my truck by per chance or even my friend that runs for Cox Petroleum... You've got to let me know next time you roll through this area (Bakersfield)... who knows, perhaps you could go on a run with me... Take care!

We read and hear a lot about I5 and 40 and 80 in CA but SR 58 is an important link for traffic coming out of the east going to and from the Bay area and the Central Valley. If you are a rail fan there is a lot of traffic visible from the highway as you move along. The pics bring back a lot of memories--Thanks

Anyone ever run Oregon 58, it's a route from Eugene to Highway 97 just south of Chemult which is just north of Klamath Falls, its a major trucking route, and its also home of Willamette Pass, about a 5,700 foot climb from the valley floor, so that about a 5,200 foot pull.

i go that way every time i go to christmas valley

Back in 1999 i delivered a car out west and took CA 58 from Barstow to Buttonwillow to connect with 5 and then on up to Clayton. Nice ride that i remember especially the windmills and Edwards AFB.

I always liked to run via 58 instead of running I 5. You climbed up out of Eugene and then ran on the mostly level 97 until  you dropped down into Weed you shifted and braked a lot less. It has been a long time since I have been up that way. The last time I had a delivery to Sears in Eugene and then had to go over to Sears in Bend when I worked for Johnson Controls. When I ran for General Cable we used to deliver copper wire to the Reynolds plant in Longview WA and if we were dispatched with the empty bobbins directly back to Kingman AZ we would run 58-97 to KFalls and then down thru Reno and pickup 95 down thru Vegas to 93 into Kingman over Boulder Dam.

Yeah i love going that way down to weed, i would do it all the time in the summer if i could, man open up those windows, 75 degrees out coming down 97, 1 in the morning, that sure takes me back, what year did you retire Wbache.

1990---My wife is disabled and we don't travel anymore but I can't complain. I got to see a lot more of the country than most people I know. Been to all 48-to Alaska twice-never to HI.  I walk the mall almost every day--still cut my own grass and grow a few veggies-- take care of the house-do a lot of reading and get online a spend a little time each day. Time goes by fast if you keep busy.

Finally got around to looking at pics from your road trip Hank, took a couple hours!
(I'm a little slow, but better late than never)

Great shots, great scenery, and some very cool and interesting trucks!
It becomes obvious that you are indeed a truck loving nut!

Love the Dennis Chan collection!
How many trucks does he have?

You took more, and better shots in a few days, than I did in a year of travelling!
(mind you it rained everywhere I went, got stuck in a couple campgrounds))

It would be cool to see a DVD of that trip with a nice sound track, and someone like Leslie Neilson doing the narration, or an interview with you.
(how bout Don Cherry)

Bravo Hank!
