I am always surprised when I go to Lacolle to see Wal-Mart trucks. It is about the only place in Quebec where we can see them. Should be delivering merchandise to stores  not far from the border. Here is a sample of trucks I have seen  during my last excursion.

I'll contribute a little something to this thread.

Saw what I thought was a normal Wal-Mart trailer with those aerodynamic side fairings, put it turns out, this is a Wal-Mart drop deck trailer. I've never seen one of these as far as I can recall.

He was heading Eastbound going past the Iowa 80 when we were merging on. Photo taken on 8/14.

I got pics of one last summer. Just saw one the other day. Probably the same one. They look nice for Internationals. They have the longer 2 window bunks, and tanks under the sleeper which really improves the look.

I might have posted it before, but figure I'll post it anyways becuz it goes with the thread so good...By the way, I unloaded a load of tubing the other day and the guy who was unloading me is a Wal-Mart shop maintance guy. He was asking me about the super single wheels on my truck and checked them out, becuz he said Wal-Mart has a bunch of them ordered. Also he added that there have been alot Cascadia ordered as well...

this is pretty much what we see in units operated by Wal-Mart Transportation LLC in Southern Calif.  in fact another just like it came by two pics later but this turned out a better shot ---southbound on I 605

Like in other places we see their trailers pulled by carriers such as Swift which I have seen and posted on other threads.

WOW Eric,  great catch,  I never knew they had any 387's,  I read somehwere the only reason they made a diecast 387 was because DCP didnt make a 386.

No, there appearently were, or are, one or two 387s at the DC that had those models made, not that I can remember which one it was. That's what I heard at least.

Wal-Mart started buying 386s before the 384 was available. A Wal-Mart 384 would look good.

I'm disappointed they don't run 386s here in the Northwest.

They're Volvos, that's why.

Nah, I guess they just didn't work out for what they needed. I think they made a good choice going with ProStars and 386's anyway. From what I've heard, many companies don't like Volvo because they aren't too excited about warranty work.

Is that the one next to I-81, across the road from Wegmans DC?   That's what I was calling Pottsville.  Ashland is probably good too, It's not really close to any town.

It could be the cost of parts as well.

I know that when Con-Way purchased CFI and folded there own smaller truckload division into CFI the VNs were dropped rather quickly. They also had the 13L volvo motors in them.

Spotted a  green Wal-Mart 9900I with a bull bar on the front.  Its a Team truck that pulls one of the Tri-dem reefer trailers up to Alaska out of the Hermiston, OR DC.  Ive seen it from the road parked in there bobtial section and theres a Yellow truck that parks next to it as well.  Im not allowed in that area of the DC, so I could never get a close look at it.  The truck was jsut coming into the DC as I was departing, Snapped a pic but the gate guards suburban blocked my shot:(

Well, thank you for finding that one! Makes me appreciate my Gearbox 1/64 Wal-Mart T600 (A, not B, but still) even more now that I know Wal-Mart actually ran T600s!  :-D

Jan.

I hear ya on that one.  I never liked that truck because I didnt think Wal-Mart ever ran them.  Learn something new everyday.  Kinda like I didnt like the Wal-Mart DCP 387 Pete because I didnt think they ran those until Eric posted pics of one. lol

Ageed.  I didn't like the ProStar at first because it looked like a bulked-up 8600 which in turn looked like a 4400 on steroids, but I have to admit that it's grown on me.

IMHO, there's a vague resemblence between the hood stripes and the air intakes on a Volvo .

Those skids are not very high!

When I worked for Westfair Foods/Loblaw our skids came all at 12X240 cases. This includes Cott Beverages (PC Brand) and that is also the manufacture of Wal Mart brands, which are made in Toronto. And of course Pepsi and Coca Cola. Even the 24's were the same height, just 120 cases I guess. And if it came from the Loblaw warehouse a skid of 240 cases of pop (cola) would be underneath a skid of F.A.K (cleaning supplies, food stuffs, merchandise etc). Not fun to unload.

Title: Re: Wal-Mart
Post by: Chase on November 30, 2008, 07:10:20 AM
that stuff came from cott

thats how ive always seen wal mart drinks loaded....when i worked at wal mart thats how all the skids of drinks came in

i personally like it loaded like that, that way it doesnt get top heavy and shift over like alot of there loads did

Here are a couple early morning shots I got of a Peterbilt 386 in Hermiston, OR.  This one has a larger sleeper and features the new Wal-Mart "spincter" logo on the airshield.

Great pics Dave, I ran out to Hermiston today. if you swing by there and tunr on Feedvile RD and go by the Car parking lot, There are about 30 old binders sitting there awaiting there next life.

Cool pics, and great looking 386, Dave, except for the logo... I do not like that new logo. As Hank Williams Jr said, "When something's good, why does it change"... or, maybe, "don't fix what isn't broken". Oh well. Rant over.

I guess that is supposed to be the sun on the logo.  I don't care for it either.  Mike:  I got over to Hermiston twice this week in a trade with another driver but will be back on my normal run to Missoula next week.  If I get over there again I will see if those older units are still there.

I really like the ride and handling of the ProStar. The only thing I don't like is the lack of storage under the bunk but that is because the APU took it up. The Espar heater takes one side and the middle is taken up by the AC filter housing. But after 223,000 miles the cab is tight and rattle free. At first I did not like the controls for the jake brake and cruise control on the steering wheel but now I would not want them on the dash.

I don't think he's saying the bunk isn't big enough, it's the lack of storage compartments. That's what I've heard from everyone too...There aren't a lot of cabinets and such to store your stuff.

New Cascadia Day Cab with super singles these trucks will be used on claims runs. The driver gets a motel at night. They pick up the stuff that gets returned to Walmart. The box behind the cab is for hazmat like paint and acetone that they don't want to mix with the load in the trailer.(http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt279/Baja_album/DSCF2021.jpg)

Word on the street is that the Lewiston ME Grocery DC was using either 387's or 386's as the tractors pulling the reefers to the stores, anyone can back me up on that?

Hey Baja.....that is pretty cool that they let you put your "handle" under the sleeper window, and I do like the bigger State DC logo....much bigger than the other DC fleet tractors have.

That is the drivers choice If he is not a smoker they put no smoking stickers on his truck and will not put a smoker in it if he is off.So each office has a list of the smoking trucks and nonsmoking.

Anyone that lives near the Great Dane trailer manufacturing plant in Terre Haute IN, there are a ton of brand new Wal-mart trailers sitting up there waiting to be delivered.  The company I work for's Wal-mart Dedicated division has been moving new trailers from Terre Haute to the Olney IL Grocery DC.

Interesting.  Wal-Mart really does care about their employees.  ;)  I take it from reading your comment that trucks are slip seated as well?
Title: Re: Wal-Mart
Post by: Baja on March 19, 2011, 08:10:32 AM
Walmart has several different driver programs like 3/2 where 3 drivers share 2 trucks you drive 2 weeks than take a week off. Another driver will use the truck when you are off. A full time driver like me will only have someone drive his truck when he or she is on vacation. We have week on week off drivers that share trucks. One driver works a week than takes a week off and his partner drives that week. Now when a driver is awarded a 3 million mile truck no one else will drive it. If He or She is off on vacation or sick that truck sits.

This is a big source of friction at any operation that slip seats. A handful of roadmen at CWX would have the proverbial "Cow" when someone smoked in their assigned tractor.
