Title: Recent Sightings
Post by: Rob Archer on March 22, 2005, 07:03:58 PM
Yesterday, I saw a Kingsway unit. The sticker on the nose read Kingsway but there was a leasing company's name on the side of the trailer. The name started with "J".

Today, I saw a flat deck unit, loaded with a steel coil. The name on the door was AUDET. I couldn't find that company name on Transforce's website.

There are a few AUDET trucking operations in Quebec  list on the DOT registry but most are 1 truck outfits

Have seen a mix of TRANSFORCE divisions tractors pulling other divisions trailers over the past week.

Saw a TRAVELERS Columbia hooked to a PAPINEAU 53' dryvan in Kingston

I Think that F.Audet Transport was a  trucking company that have been bought by Transpel a few years ago.  I have a few pics of Audet F-Liner Century   in recent years and they were looking like twin  of Transpel trucks , white with blue horizontal stripes.
When Transforce buy a company , most of the time they take control of their divisions.  They keep the tradenames of those companies but they not always use them. When they need it, they can use it. It is the case with  P & W Intermodal which was also a division of Transpel.

For instance, Forestville, Lebon , Retex do not seem to run on their own name anymore . It look like they are integrated in Kingsway Bulk but Transforce keep their  name in bank and anytime they can use them again if they need to.

I dont think that there is a long term plan for companies they buy. Last spring they have bought two small TL carrier in the Sherbrooke area: Transport Elsa & Transport Sher-Mont. In the following weeks they have  put new fleet number and the usual TFI lettering on the side of the trucks.
During the summer , each company received a few new trucks  painted  with the Transforce corporate colors and with their own names on the doors.  In the fall they had painted  Interforce in the front and rear of the trailers. In December they had a bunch of new trailers with Interforce written in big letters on the side . In January we have started to see new trucks with the Interforce identification. I have asked a driver and he told me that the " boss " have decided to melt Elsa and Sher-Mont in a new company   named Interforce and that he would not be surprised if some others divisions would follow the same road. Only the new trucks have the Trnsforce colors and Interforce identification . The others trucks still have the colors and identifications  they had before being in the Transforce family.

Interesting to wait and see. There is always action at Transforce.

Have seen a few HIGHLAND O/O's with new HIGHLAND lettering ( same font as TRANSFORCE ) but no little SWIPE over the top.

HIGHLAND company trucks are getting relettered with new D O T # ( have post on other thread about it )

New US DOT registrations for divisions of Transforce are

TFI TRANSPORT 1 SEC
TFI TRANSPORT 2 SEC
TFI TRANSPORT 3 SEC HIGHLAND
TFI TRANSPORT 4 SEC
TFI TRANSPORT 5 SEC
TFI TRANSPORT 6 SEC
TFI TRANSPORT 11 SEC
TFI TRANSPORT 12 SEC

With St Laurent PQ as the address.
Title: Transforce reorganization
Post by: G. Laplante on March 28, 2005, 09:37:16 PM
It look like that they are making a big reorganization. They seem to have about half the administrative units they had last year despite the great amount of  acquisitions they have made  in the last year or so.  I have checked with their financial report for 2004 and  I did not find  at which US DOT registration are corresponding  each ot their 39 divisions.

All the Basic Staples office supplies cube vans and drivers have been taken over by some third party division of Transforce called Force 4. These decals are on the doors of the vans.
Gameca also got purchased by Transforce. They are replacing the fleet but are still retaining Gameca's National lease decals on the sides of the bunks.
Does anyone know what VRAC stands for on the side of the Kingsway Bulk Division VRAC tankers. Is this like LLC but in Quebec.

Title: Kingsway
Post by: G. Laplante on April 05, 2005, 02:21:44 PM
It look like an old Expediteur Japiro trailer . Japiro from Montmagny was bought by Ren? Bussi?res ( former owner of Bellechasse, Rimouski, Speedway , Overnite, Retex )  in October of 2000 . The year after he bought L'Islet Express  . In the spring of 2002 he sold both companies to Transforce where they were integreted in a new division called Transport Select.  Lately they have put Select and Daily together. In Quebec, Kingsway is also in the LTL with Select and there tractors  are   often seen pulling  old trailers of the LTL companies bought by Transforce :  Daily, Japiro , L'Islet, Leblanc , ect.
By the way, I took few hours today to take trucks pictures by the side of TCH near Drummondville and I have seen a Transport Leblanc  T800 pulling an old Japiro trailer.  Maybe the are a little nostalgic and they keep the old material running.

Their van side has lost a few big contracts , see them running a lot West & East on HWY 17 in areas .that you never saw them before.

Plenty of RUMORS floating around about things that are in the works , a few O/O's have left but they still have AD's to hire new ones

Title: Montkar
Post by: c.j. hall on April 06, 2005, 06:37:50 PM
Last week got shots of a Montkar original paint scheme Freightliner Classic pulling old Besner trailer but with new Kingsway logo on the front of trailer.
Montkar spec'd odd Classics, no aircleaners and fuel tanks under doors but with large full sized spare tire carrier frame mounted under bunk.
Title: Montkar
Post by: G. Laplante on April 06, 2005, 07:18:59 PM
When Montkar began in the beginning of the nineties, it was an all owner-operator  company that was specialized in newsprint transportation. They did not seem to have a company paint code and the trucks were of all brands and all colors .  I may have miss something in their evolution but lately   most of their trucks were white. They were leaving Quebec City  on Sunday morning . So I you were driving from Montreal to the East on TCH at this time you had a chance to meet quite a few Montkar trucks. Last year I noticed that  all of them were identical  F-Liner Classic . I was wondering if they had turned to company trucks.

Rumor is that HIGHLAND is closing the yard in PTE CLAIRE PQ , moving to Drummondville and share space with another TRANSFORCE outfit,

HIGHLANDS head office in Markham is slated to close along with a few other TRANSFORCE yards in Toronto area and they will all move in together in 1 big yard / office.

HIGHLAND trucks are sitting while other TRANSFORCE groups are getting the work ?

In Quebec, in most  place, TST Overland and Kingsway share the same yard.
I guess that it is the first step toward  rationalization.  If they have been able to drop the Cabano name which was at the beginning of the company, I think that in a few year from now  they will have only a few divisions and not the 30-35 they have now.

Yes, that is what usually happens in a buyout.
I work for a customs broker and I worked for International Import after Livingston bought them. I had worked for Border Brokers before Livingston bought them. Our two offices at Toronto airport had a wall (partition ) between them and they first put the Livingston name, then knocked the wall down (literally) and then amalgamated the two companies and THEN....rebranded them both as one. it took several years to get everything into place.

THEN...I guess we will move this TRANSFORCE category up to Fallen Flags because a lot of trucking companies' names will be lost.

They have bought a lot of new trailers this years  and about all the one I have seen were Wabash.   I wonder about their buying policies . Over the years they have bought dozens and dozens of small and medium sizes carriers. These company were buying trucks, trailers & equipment from local outfits. With a company the size of Transforce, they may go national for buying. It is a big loss for the local economy of dozens of small towns.

They "LEASE" a lot of them and GE CAPITAL is 1 of the major companies they lease through and right now WABASH is 1 of the best deals , you can get a lease on a NEW 53" dryvan with air ride for around $375.00 per month so think f the deal they get for a few 100 trailers.

You see LABONTE pulling KINGSWAY , MONDOR pulling LABONTE , BESNER pulling LABONTE and any mix you can imagine.

Its getting to be that they will use whatever equipment is in a location / area to pull whatever is needed to be pulled out of there.

Also see TRAVELLERS pulling PAPINEAU vans.

HIGHLAND has not been too involved with the " WE WILL PULL WHATEVER " but they are also slow work wise compared to what it was in the past.

Labont? and DPM are divisions of JC Germain from Trois-Rivi?res.  But I don't know how this  organisation work. I did not saw any new material identified to DPM and Labont? for a long time .

They may have created a pool  of the unused material  from all all their divisions and just  take in it what they need when extra work have to be done in any division.

I see more and more Gregoire trucks in Windsor Mills around the big Domtar plant.  Transforce and some of his divisions ( Papineau, Interforce, Lacaille,Mirald before, A&M International , are the main transportation forces there. Up until early last year if you were an O/O you had to have a WHITE TRUCK, company trucks were WHITE as well. It was in our contract with HIGHLAND as well as in the UNION contract.

When they revamped the HIGHLAND logo  ( prior to TRANSFORCE ) they ordered 50 new Freightliner Columbias , they came in White with 2 versions of Blue / Silver stripes , Blue with White/ silver stripe  or light blue silvery white Stripes, White with Gold / White stripe , Burgundy with Red / Gold stripe.

They now allow the O/O's to have any paint scheme and version of lettering they want.

I pull HIGHLAND chassis's only , they bought 100 new ATLAS chassis over the past year. there is no intermingling between the container divisions YET  , nice to see TRANSPEL and MIRALD working  steady including weekends while we sit :( last year this time 3000 miles a week this year was easy to obtain now lucky if you get 1400 -1800 miles.

I have seen today a Transbord truck with the Transforce swoosh painted on his doors. But it was not done on the usual Transbord T-800 but on a old Freighliner FLD day cab . Cabano-Kingsway had lot of them in the end of the nineties. It look like they are recycling them.

I have also seen a new Volvo day cab (256035) identified with the Select-Daily logo pulling an old Cabano/Kingsway trailer.

Title: St-Lambert
Post by: G. Laplante on July 07, 2005, 05:30:26 PM
St-Lambert is a small carrier from Levis Qc that have been bought  in July 2002. It was at that time an all o/o  outfit.

I have noticed  that they have a way to recycle old trailers. For instance I saw a few old McGill trailers  with the logo on the side  that have been recycled for A.M International by lettering  the A.M. new logo on the front and rear of the trailer. The have done the same with Transport Sher-Mont (T.S.M.) and Elsa when they have been integrated  in Interforce. The old logo are still on the side of the trailers and the have lettered the new Interforce logo in the front and in  the rear.
I may be wrong, but all the Highland trailers I have in pictures (prior to the acquisition) are only lettered in front and in the rear. So there is two nice trailers sides where to put new logos if you are recycling them.

These were not OLD / RECYCLED trailers but part of the 500 new trailers HIGHLAND recieved last year prior to TRANSFORCE getting involved.

The way they act is like they are dismantling Highland  quietly and distributing the material in others divisions. I hate seing old company desappearing by the back door.It is a lack of respect, but maybe it is " good business". They did the same with Cabano name  and it was the founding father  of the company. Lacaille have  his yard in Carignan Qc, near Highway 10. It is a pretty big yard. I guess they had about 50 powers units. They have bought Farco in 2001. It look like it was a kind of family deal . Farco was a kind of logistic service  and was controlled by an other member of the Lacaille family.  Pascal should be able to  tell the exact  situation.

By the way I have seen this afternoon a brand new Lacaille truck. It was a Western Star. The first time I have seen a new Western Star  with the Transforce colors.

The Lacaille brothers loved complicated business.Farco was a leasing company in the 70's and 80's that was dropped to create Canaco Transport. In fact,my dad began his long haul career with them, hauling spindle coils(broche is spindle, right?) from L'orignal Ontario to Thruro Nova Scotia. They just brought back the name in the mid 90's.

All the green trucks were ex-Farco.Only a couple of trailers were identify by the name Farco, including 3 container frame.

They also had a couple of orange Volvos, under the name of Dacel Transport. They also had brown-gray International, but I don't remember the division's name.

A year or two before they were bought by Transforce, all the trucks were rebadged under the Lacaille name.

For the power units,I would guess maybe 50-75 trucks, less than 100 for shure...

Thanks Gerard and Pascal for the brief history on Farco. Before the take over they ran quite a few truck on the Toronto Montreal corridor
In the seventies and eighties what was the colour of the Farco trucks or mostly brokers. When did Canaco disappear I don't remember these trucks. The steel mill Ivaco is still running in L'Original and lots of steel wire being made some times called slinkkies by the old Gledhill drivers.
Never hardly saw any Lacaille trucks in Ontario after the Transforce takeover but this summer they are reappearing but all in Transforce colours but always pulling original Farco or Lacaille trailers. If it wasn't for this old trailers I would have forgotten about them.
Around Toronto and hauling west towards Detroit we are seeing more Trans4 trucks and trailers. This is an odd Transforce division since they are mostly beat up trailers and always pulled by oddball broker units. Could be automotive from Detroit. The broker units are never upkept and seem to be always passing me in a big hurry.

C.J,Farco and/or Canaco never had broker in thoses years. They were big enough to do the job by thenselves.

For their colours, you may want to see the Martin Phippard collection of 70's trucks. There is a picture of an old K-100 that Farco had.Canaco's colours were the same.

Since I'm a computer dummy,I don't own a scanner.But I'll try to put a picture soon.

By the way,Lacaille was own by Gerald Lacaille. His brother Marcel had Farco,Canaco and Jartran Transport.Canaco's name is still in use, since Marcel is now in the horse business, under the name of Canaco Farms.

Yesterday, I saw a J.C. Germain pete 379 on I-84 in Hartford, CT in Tranforce colors, but the trailer was still done up in the old J.C Germain colors. I haven't seen a J.C. Germain truck in CT in over a year!!!! A real treat to see :-D  I still see the old Besner trailers, with tractors done in Transforce colors. A neat combination!!

Very few JC Germain trucks have been painted in Transforce colors . They have kept the old colors .  But because of a  reorganization within the Transforce divisions, Interforce is now a division of JC Germain.  Interforce  was created last year by the integration of Transport Elsa and Transport  Sher-Mont (TSM)  of Sherbrooke in the Transforce family.  Those company  had regular run in CT and MA. delivering printing paper and coming back with scrap paper.  Interforce  run older Mack Vision, Pete 379 , Inter 9900 in the old colors of Elsa and TSM but they have  new Pete 379, Pete 387 and Inter 9400  in Transforce colors. Lately they have  add  JC Germain Sherbrooke division on  the trucks doors.  And quite often we see them pulling JC Germain trailers.

Hy Paul!!

The purpose of the doors at each end of the tail trailer is to allow you to unload the entire set without unhooking it.You put a plate between the 2 trailers and voila!!

Maybe there is something there. I have also seen this afternoon , near Sherbrooke , a Berni?re Pete 387 pulling a  old SAS trailer. SAS is now the Drummondville division of Transport Gr?goire.  I have checked with the Quebec register of company but nothing have been changed yet. But it took  usually some weeks before changes are made.  If it is right, Transforce would have  a control  on the more important carriers of the Quebec City area : Besner, Fortier, Montkar and now Berni?res.

I went to Drummondville twice last week and I saw the TST Overland trailers in the Letarte hub each day.
Messageries Valois from Trois-Rivieres is doing the same thing. I saw them in Victoriaville and at their lot in Trois-Rivieres. I asked a friend who used to drive for Transforce and he told me that it was a kind of agreement. Transforce may have putted money in Valois, but they run separated from the Transforce system.

About SAS and Gregoire, SAS is now the Gregoire's Drummondville branch. Take them in pictures since they're killing the name. Some white, orange and brown trailers are still remaining, but I don't see them often. The SAS International with the Transforce swoosh trailers are quite oddballs. Usually, they will be painted Transport Gregoire Drummondville (or Plessisville).

Blanchette was a big player in Abitibi-Temiscamingue, but the softwood industry is dying. They mostly hauled softwood from the Northwestern Quebec to the southern Ontario and the US. I used to live a year in Rouyn (2001) and they had a good share of the truck traffic in town. I always enjoyed chatting with their drivers. Their trucks were always looking A-1.

Besner was probably on a newsprint run, but it is not confirmed. I don't think Besner still carry Canada Post mail. Last time I saw the equipment used at the old Quebec City sorting plant (now closed), all I saw was operated by Transport YN Gonthier out of St.Romuald. In Sherbrooke and Rouyn-Noranda, it was another small company from St.Jerome (the phone number written on the trailers), but I don't recall its name (not TFI / Papineau / ...).

BR Gregoire is where it all started for Gregoire. They had a big yellow BR on their cab door. In the 80's, Gregoire was a local company specialized in the fertilizers. They were located on St.Calixte Street in the west end of Plessisville near Boutin Express storage lot on highway 116. They had a few tractors (for sure) and snowplows (not 100% sure). Suddenly in the late 90's they became bigger and bigger. They still serve farmers and the new terminal (highway 116 at 265, Plessisville east end) still have mountains of limestone in their back yard. It is not a nice place to go when it is windy. That business seems still good enoughfor them to keep a FT loader operator on their paylist.

There's also another Gregoire from Plessisville in the trucking industry, but I don't think he's related with BR Gregoire and co.. He's specialized in the oversize tire transportation and recycling.

Their limestone trucks, the limestone mountains are in the back (behind the trees).

Mondor Peterbilt with a 4 axle tanker was delivering gasoline to the Irving in Cornwall yesterday. The driver was very friendly and moved all his unloading stuff so I could grab a pic. Truck and trailer was in full Transforce markings.
Also on McConell Ave. in Cornwall seen a Highland truck white with blue and grey stripes pulling a Marcan trailer. I thought this was an odd combination.

Nice shot Gérard, this dual pipes day cab Inter coupled with this bright red lettering tanker are very impressive. One of the reason why I like so much the Transforce fleet,it is because its relatively low level of standardisation. We can always find some special and original units to make pictures.

MONDOR is hauling fuel into the IRVINGS in Pembroke as well , followed 1 down HWY 17 the other day.

Mondor is also working for Sonic (Coop fédérée de Québec).

Today, I was in Plessisville for business and I took this opportunity to pass by Gregoire.

The old terminal (and explanations... I had some free time!) in Plessisville west-end:

Great info on GREGOIRE , always took them as just a van operation. They must of had some sort of IRON CLAD clause in their sale agreement to keep TRANSFORCE from changing their signage to the transforce style.

Bernière have  a reputation of buying used  trailers and trucks.  I think that they buy used material, refurbish it , repaint the trucks and put them on the road again. I have several pics of blue or green trucks pulling Bernières trailers before they were repainted. .  Last year I have asked a driver who had a dark green Pete 387  if is was the new color for Bernières . He was not eager to give me an anwser . There is a rumor that their Pete 387 are former  Dan freight System long haul tractors.

Gregoire still have old SAS trailers in their Drummondville lot, but I don't see them much in and around Plessisville. Yesterday, I took highway 55 and I saw about half a dozen white and orange SAS trailers and at least one TFI white, red and blue SAS trailer in their Drummond yard. By the way, take pictures of them asap, they phase out that name, but some of the blue, red and white SAS trailers already have the logo taken off the sides.

Gregoire have a division called BR Gregoire who is specialized in bulk hauling and spreading limestone and other farm fertilizers. Yesterday, on TCH , I took this pic of one of their T-800 pulling a lowboy loaded with one of their Terragator.

I notice the terragator is equipped with a "D" sign also...something I have never seen before. Is it mandatory in Quebec for "off road" vehicles that do use the highway from time to time to be equipped with one?

Transport Alain Landry are from St-Noel, a tiny village between Mont-Joli and Amqui , in the western part of Gaspe Peninsula.  The flat-bed division was started about 15 years ago and the van division three year ago. Both divisions were sold to Transforce about a year ago where they form a new division called LANDRY.   At the time of the acquisition they had about 40 company trucks and 50 owner-operators. They were a common sight on TCH east of Quebec City.   Company trucks, mostly Volvo are of various colors. Some have received the new lettering with the Transforce swoop , other are still beering the older names. I have seen lately  a few new dry boxes with the Transforce lettering.  Yesterday I tookl , near Quebec City , this picture of a St-Noel Express Volvo pulling a  b-train.

There are several Trans4 trailers in the plant compound at Ford Oakville Assembly.
I was hoping to get a shot of the sign at the Select Daily terminal in Brampton as well as a Select Volvo tractor but there were more dummies driving and I was still playing "dodge the dummies". Trans 4 Logistics name appears on the sign.

Yes; Select Daily seems one of the slowest to convert to the "swoosh". Does Epic Express run in Quebec? I noted that they are starting to standardize on Internationals and move away from Freightliners.
There is too much traffic outside Interport Terminal in Mississauga to get any decent photos.

Yes Rob Epic Express run a small fleet of Freightliner out of Montreal.Their terminal which is shared with other transport companies but no other Transforce divisions,is located near the airport.Epic is only a leasee over there.Every day Kingsway and Select daily units
go there for interlining operations.

About Select Daily Gérard, the company tractor like the one in your picture is just one part of the game.Select Daily uses a lot of small contractor day cab tractors and straight trucks out of the Montréal Transforce terminal. It's give an highly heterogeneous fleet and not always with an high profile image.

Few weeks ago I was in the Baie-Comeau and Sept-Iles area and I have seen quite a few new International  ( 8000 serie ) for TST Overland. ,  In Sept-Iles TST and Kingsway share the former  Expeditex and  later Cabano Terminal .

The Epic terminal is located on Cote de Liesse just alongside of the sufferance terminal. In fact,it's the Montreal Kingsway terminal from the Canada Steamship Lines era.The building has an architecture similar to the old Toronto Kingsway terminal on the Queensway
road.Incidentally, the big Kingsway lettering is always on the roof of the building.I don't know who is the owner now.Epic shares the terminal with SGT 2000,ATL,OTQ and Purolater.

About the sufferance terminal,it was previously used by  CP Transport and Adley Transport.Today the terminal is used by Yellow,GO JIT,and Rockman,a drayage company. On my Transforce page you can see an Epic unit passing in front of the sufferance terminal.

A&M and their division Slam Transport from East-Angus Qc had usually white truck with black stripping. They also had a few  white Mack Vision with blue stripping. On the first picture, taken in the spring of 2004 at the local International dealer we see a bunch of A&M and Slam old Century, Western Star and International 9200 that have been traded for new International 9900i. Those  International were red .  But they had also some  O/O  with different colors trucks. The red International were the last new trucks before the take over  and some are still on the road.

Yesterday night, a Robert tractor was pulling a JC Germain trailer to Montreal. (The picture is average, but it was the best way to get it from the bridge since the WB and EB lanes are not on the same level.)

Yeah, I saw them (on hwy 20) more than ever since a few days, they seem to have taken over Mondor for serving the shingles plant in LaSalle. Each time, I am see them now, they have pallets of shingles packages on their flatbed b-trains and I see Mondor no more around here.

Seen the other day this St-Lambert flat bed  pulling a load of granite. St-Lambert  is a small carrier with vans and flat-bed that have been taken over 5 years back by Transforce. At the time of the takeover it was an all owner-operators outfit and   I think that is was kept  that way until a few months ago when I began to see tractors in the official Transforce livery. This International 9900 is a 2004 so he  can have been transfered from an other division that have been closed. I have not seen Transless tractors lately  ????

Transport RC a dry bulk carrier from Montreal have been taken over few months ago. In the last few weeks I have seen 3-4 RC trailers and all were pulled by Kingsway Bulk tractors. They did not lost time to integrate them.

Few week ago , as I was taken pictures along TCH I have seen  in the other direction  an International 9900 day cab pulling a tanker.  Usually it is Mondor who is doing that job. But  it was not Mondor name on the truck.  I had the feeling that is was Durocher but in my mind it seem impossible since Durocher only pull flat bed.  Barraclou have  have also seen white Durocher trucks. On if you  check the Transforce web site, Mondor is not there anymore. I have read  on  Truck Web, the French forum  that the Mondor assets and management have been transfered to Durocher. Maybe there is a big restructuration  going on at Transforce.

So, it explains why the Mondor contracts hauling Rampart shingles and Soprema watershield membranes is now served by Durocher tractors... That's logic since TFI likes to consolidate companies specialized in the same branch (tankers with tankers, flatbeds with flatbeds, bulk with bulk...) between each others.

About Transless, I used to work a few months right in front of their terminal in Plessisville. It was about the time TFI took them over. They also had a lot off highway 20 in Villeroy (exit 253). Everything was emptied and transfered at Golden, Mondor or another flatbed carrier. I think their new address was in Bois-des-Fillions or Lachenaie, then I lost track of them. So, I thought they were consolidated in the other division.

I  have nothing specific about Laurin and Transforce. But  I have seen again the other day a Gregoire tractor pulling a Laurin trailer. These things can happen once in a while, but if you see  them 5 times in the same week, maybe there is something behind that.   By the way, I have seen the other day an Interforce ( JC Germain Sherbrooke div.) Pete 387 pulling an Hyndman trailer. But it should be an usual thing that happen once in a while in the transportation world.

Residing in the lower 48 though puts me at a disadvantage when it comes to the history of the carriers and all the knowledge like who bought what when.  :-D Please bear with me if i ask some questions that you guys consider old news.

I'll start with this Golden International pulling a flatbed that i saw today on the Jersey Pike. Don't recall seeing this company pre Transforce. Were they strictly local before the takeover?  :?

They were an international carrier  CAN / USA , trucks were blue with gold lettering , since they were bought they seem to have more of a presence , see them more all over Ontario pulling lots of different loads, use to be sort of rare to see them other than along the main trucking corridor the 401 Quebec border to Windsor.

... and last Saturday I also saw a JP Laurin parked at the JC Germain / Interforce terminal in Sherbrooke (Deauville), then a Mondor trailer hauled by a Durocher Transit on hwy 20 in Pte.Claire and the several O/O working for Gregoire, Besner and even Select-Daily. By the way, someone I know very well had to pick up a load last friday at the Durocher terminal in St.Felix and he told me they increased the security features there. They now require to get a pass in the offices before entering the lot.

Haulin a chassis does not $ that well but saves on fuel , this guy is a typical container hauler , bought a fairly decent $35,000.00 truck , not spending a fortune dolling it up , signed on with a company that pays somewhat decent $ + the insurance and a fuel discount program.

CJ: Lapalme is a small company based out of Granby,QC. I never heard of it before TFI took over it. Their equipment is very generic: most of their trailers are plain white or with a small top corner logo near the rear end. The tractors are mostly painted like the one on the picture and I saw a straight body truck like that too. I recall to have saw somewhere that Mr. Lapalme also worked in the moving van business too. I don't see them often in Montreal or elsewhere in Quebec, but they go to Ontario from time to time. The truck on the picture was going West on the highway 20 in Vaudreuil-Dorion, so it was probably on his way to Ontario highway 401.

Others sightings, yesterday, I used highway 138 in the Lanaudiere region. So, I passed in front of the Mondor terminal in Lanoraie. All their trucks there are now branded Durocher. No Mondor anymore! Also, only two of them were painted in dark red, all their others ones are white with the TFI swoosh. By the way, did you know there`s another Mondor in the truck industry? It is called Mondor Express and they have blue tractors. It also seems to be specialized in the flatbed trucking. I will post pictures later this week when I will get spare time.

Today, TVA (French Canadian tv network) reports that a Kingsway bulk tractor and trailer flipped and burned on the Turcot interchange near the Champlain bridge in Montreal. The driver is safe, but forget about the tractor. http://lcn.canoe.com/lcn/infos/faitsdivers/archives/2007/09/20070902-135744.html

and one with

Is that a Transforce company?

Rob,to my knowing VTL is not part of Transforce. It's a Transport company located in Laval (Quebec) operating truckload lanes between Quebec,Ontario,Ohio and the Mid-West.It also acts as international forwarder and offer also some distribution services on behalf of Canadian Tires between others. As in Toronto they are using also the Montreal Transforce terminal to park some of their equipments on the island.

No, VTL have a similar blue and red livery, but it is no Transforce (yet?). They seem to expand a lot in the last months and I also know they have the contract to deliver the Montreal newspapers along the highway 20 to the local contractors elsewhere in the province.

I am afraid Rene that you may be right.  Durocher is still in his original color  despite they have a discreet swoosh. But with all the Mondor fleet  now  running on the Durocher name but with  the official Transforce livery, I am afraid that the rest of the fleet will follow.  I don't know what will happen with JC Germain. They are in the Transforce family since the end of the nineties now. At the beginning, a few trucks have been repainted   and for  an unknow reason things were stopped.  Since , all the new trucks for JC Germain and for the divisions they manage ( DPM, Labonte, Begin, Interforce ) are in the original JC Germain livery.

The uniformization may make sense   on a business point of view but for a photographer it is not interesting. Sometime I am along the road and 25-30 % of the trucks passing by are  with the Transforce livery ( Papineau, Lacaille, Mirald, A&M International, Interforce, Besner, KingswayLTL, Kingsway Bulk ,  TST Overland , etc. I do not even open my camera.

On Gerard's picture, have you saw that it is not a typical dry van? It seems to be a rolltite flat bed. I don't remember to have saw Fortier/Boostway pulling many of them. So, it might be a new trailer ordered in the new livery.

On my side, yesterday afternoon, I saw an orange TST Overland unidentified tractor pulling an orange TST Overland trailer in the Turcot interchange, then a St-Lambert International in the TFI livery.

Interesting pictures Barraclou.  I often see Excalibur trucks  pulling trailers from others carriers delivering at local shopping centers.  Good catch on this  Lacaille ProStar. I  don't know what is still  the Lacaille statut  among Transforce divisions ? I had the feeling that they were  being integrated by Papineau.  Interesting to see them pulling  an XTL trailer.  The rumors say that XTL may be  the next target for Transforce if it is not already done.

Alexcalibur is specialized in doing the local service for national-wide companies, such as Overnite or Maritime-Ontario.  Back home, I often them delivered stuff to the local Shopper Drug Mart / Pharmaprix pharmacy using foreign trailers.

About the XTL pulled by a Lacaille tractor, it is definetely strange. The truck is awesome, but the mix is weird. I live 15 minutes away from their Vaudreuil (huge) terminal and I never saw that mix.

A quite unusual dryvan (at least, it is around here) and maybe an one-of-its-kind. It seems to have been repainted that way, because in person you can see some greenish paint in the lower part of the wall. It is strongly possible that it is an old Cabano-Kingsway trailer.

Yeah, it is quite unusual to see a gold FreightShaker working for Kingsway. By the way, I don't recall to have seen Bison using many FS on their roster. It seems that they're mostly using Volvos.  Also, some Papineau drivers told me that they were switching to International when they renew their truck, because they were more or less happy with their Columbia performances. Anyway, TFI has enough buying power to cut down the tag price by over 25%. So, they can negociate hard and the dealer will accept it to get their huge business.

Transport Leblanc was a nice little carrier with 20-25 trucks out of Warwick Qc. They have been taken over by Transforce in 2003. The company was closed and  the asset were integrated in Select Transport . I have been surprised that five years after the acquisition  Transforce is still running a truck with all the original Leblanc livery. Beau-Par was a parcel delivery  carrier out of Quebec City. They have been taken over last year and I don't know what did happen to them once in the Transforce Family. Picture taken a few weeks ago along TCH east of St-Hyacinthe Qc.

Nice catch. A few Leblanc tractors remains in their original scheme and some others are still red, but sport the Select swoosh on the door and they're all harder and harder to see. Leblanc used to be one main carriers (with Boutin Express and Ent. Yves Labonté before this one was merged into JCG...)  in the Bois-Francs area when Transport Michel / Intercan felt down. They were mostly running Kenworth, but they had a few O/O, including at least one COE truck. Before being taken over, they were somewhat expanding, but one of their dispatchers made a lot of troubles and costed them customers. When TFI bought Leblanc , the Leblanc drivers were transfered from Warwick to Drummondville, but several of them choose to quit rather than working for Transforce. I heard several reasons why they left, but the fact that they're required to bring the tractors to the terminal each night rather than parked them at home was a major turn off. The Leblanc terminal on highway 116 in Warwick is now partly used by Transport CJTR.

Edit: By the way, I really like to see these strange matches such as your Leblanc with a Beau-Par trailer or a Leblanc with a Papineau trailer (second pic)...

The first picture was taken along TCH near St-Hyacinthe at the end of April of 2007. Not long after the Mondor name have been removed from  this Transforce division  and assets have been transfered to Durocher. Then a few months ago Transforce have taken over  a petroleum carrier, GHL Trucking from Lavaltrie and tankers have been transfered to them.

I don't know what did happen to unit  276031. The name Mondor have been removed,  the swoosh is still there but he is still an orphan. I took the picture yesterday and he is seen pulling a Sonic trailer. Sonic is the biggest independant petroleum dealer in Quebec and is a division of the  Federee COOP.

It is possible, but Gregoire also got a lot of o/o for them now and they're really have no paint scheme, except for the logo. Per example, this morning, I saw a navy blue Volvo (no picture). I am not sure where they got this second hand 2004 FreightShaker, but it is unusual since Gregoire never buys Freightliners. I suspect that it cames from Tspt JP Laurin. It still remains a very few Tspt Luc Richard trailers with their original livery, but I don't know where their trucks are now. It can also be one of them, but they mostly had Volvos only on their roster.

Luc Richard was one of my favorite small fleet . I like to see small fleets growing  and things seem to go  right for them. I have  about a dozen pics of their trucks, a mix of International and Volvo and a sole Freightliner Columbia. Lately I have seen quite a few former Luc Richard  tractors integrated in the Gregoire fleet . It seem that it is also the case for this Columbia. I guess that it is the same truck that  is now identified under the Gregoire name. Here is a pic I took of this truck along TCH in the Drummondville area in April of 2006. By the way, do you know what have pushed Transport Luc Richard  in the arms of Transforce ?

Post by: barraclou on September 23, 2008, 05:41:04 PM
You're right, it seems to be the same truck. I wrote Laurin, because I think that I never see a Columbia operating for them. TLR didn't have many Freightliners for sure and I recall them mostly for their Volvos.

I know that the guys working for Luc Richard liked to work there, but it suddenly closed without notice and without official reasons. Some drivers were on the road when they had to stop everything. In the local paper, they were desperate to hire a dispatcher for several weeks.

Too many small fleets have grown up too fast and at the same time around here. Since Transforce is not known to buy losing money companies, I suspect that they bought TLR just to kill competition and to clean out the Gregoire and JG Germain turf. On its side, Transport Dragon rans out of money and Sylverster & Forget had taken it over. They were interested to expand their business here and to get their contracts. The LTL work was also tough, because Go Jit and Bourret were undercutting rates. The scene is changing a lot. Even in just a few months, the Gregoire trucks ratio I see in town is higher overall that ever and if you exclude their Sodisco/Quincallerie Pro and Cascades jobs, Boutin Express is now almost MIA.

Thanks Barraclou for the information. I had too spoken with a few Luc Richard drivers and they seem happy to work there. I know some companies were using them and Dragon because they did not went to put all their business in the hands of Transforce companies. But they have the power to corner the market and then you have two choices  : sell or crash. I have read  a paper in La Presse a few days back. Alain Bedard , the Transforce  CEO say there that he have 40 acquisitions  files on his desk . So  we will see  some action there in the   months to come .

Here is a pic of one of the Luc Richard International that have been integrated in the Gregoire fleet. It is easy to identify them because they are a little more dressed up than the usual fleet trucks.

Earlier today, an eastbound Gregoire city Kenworth pulled a grey and red Couture trailer on the TCH in Lotbiniere county. I am not sure if it cames from Plessisville or Drummondville.

Also, GHL is relettering its tankers with the new Transforce version of its logo. The truck I saw was westbound from the Quebec area  (possibly the Ultramar** refinery?) .

Also, I saw two Landry trucks today: one dryvan and one flatbed.

I believe they used to be listed as Calgary but that might have been back in the CF (Consolidated Freightways) ownership times.

The Volvo invasion continues. A good and reliable source told me that Durocher had received new Volvo sleepers in St-Felix. They're kept the grey livery and they're currently unlettered.  It seems that TFI is buying more and more Volvos rather than Inter.. Durocher was mostly a Inter country in the past.

By the way, it is not TFI related (yet?), but SGT 2000 also received many brand new Volvos and Petes in the last weeks.

It is probably just a leased truck (vs an acquisition), but I caught this Penske Freightshaker pulling a Ganaca trailer on the TFI yesterday.

(http://www.barraclou.com/truck/transforce/tn_ganeca_penske.jpg) (http://www.barraclou.com/truck/transforce/ganeca_penske.jpg)

It is typical to see Transforce trailers being transfered from a division to another one. Several (if not all) St.Lambert vans have been transfered from the other branches, such as Kingsway. This one is an ex-Highland.

Too bad they also changed the name.  Camionnage GHL sounded different.

I have never heard of them before. So, I googled and found this:

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/chris_hall/2003/sept28/transport_lrl_mack.jpg

Probably, it was done as a minor transaction before it is not listed on their operation companies page.

By the way, MTMX (with P&W) et Martrans still have their name in their truckload section (http://www.transforce.ca/index.taf?t=5&p=30), but not in the operating entities list.

Edit: Also, driving on the hwy 20 in Ste.Julie,  I saw along the road that Excellence Peterbilt got some ex-Transforce Pete. At least, an ex-JC Germain 387 on the front row and some unid. white (got a TFI logo on the sleeper) 388 or 389 deeper on the lot (on its east end).

Today, I went to St.Georges and I passed by St-Ephrem where Couture's base is. The trailer lot is mixed 50-50 with Fortier and Boost-Way trailers. It looks like the they're on the way to integrate Couture with Fortier. Also, I saw a Besner trailer at a Wal-Mart store (not the first time) and I caught a nice Fortier special wrap trailer later in the day. I'll upload the pic asap.

(http://www.barraclou.com/truck/transforce/tn_fortier_groupe.jpg) (http://www.barraclou.com/truck/transforce/fortier_groupe.jpg)

The St-Ephrem trailer lot picture. Also, on Couture's website, they state 1240 Volta Boucherville and 570 President Kennedy Rd., Levis as their branch addresses. The Bourcherville location is Mirald's one and that's the one used by Trans Novem on the TFI site and it is on the Fortier's own site too. I saw CR Trans-Border Service and Boostway trucks parked there during the last winter. The Levis address is the huge Fortier - Boostway terminal South of hwy 20. It is typical for Transforce to mix up their companies operations between them, but it is definetely something done between Fortier and Couture. The Couture ex-Boostway Volvo last week, then Couture address at Fortier's in Levis, then Fortier and Couture together in Boucherville, then the Fortier trailers in St.Ephrem...

Today, I was on my way home and I met a Gregoire Volvo with a new Gregoire trailer. It was heading West on hwy 116 in Warwick and I got a full height Gregoire with the red swoosh. It uses the regular Transforce arial bold font, not the hybrid Gregoire serif font as seen on their 2009 Volvo doors. It is the first time ever that I see Gregoire using their version of the standard Transforce-style logo. I have no picture, but I should be good to get one soon.

I had to go in Waterloo,QC today. I got a nice little thunderstorm during my time there, but when I left the town, I saw some kind of storage lot for roll-off bins along the road. Matrec and Thibault containers are mixed up there. It sounds like the Thibault integration into Matrec is under process as I expected when they announced the takeover. The Thibault name is still listed on their website, but it seems that their business share and their empty landfill space will go to expand Matrec.

Not their primary business, but I found these Gregoire flatbed trailers when I passed by their hub today. Years ago, Transforce bought a local flatbed carrier, Transless, then merged it later into Quebec City's St.Lambert, but they kept a few units in town at Gregoire's. It worked for a while, but they seem to be all gone since several months. St.Lambert is still in business, but Durocher is serving at least one local customer and Gregoire (now?) got these trailers...

That's the Kingway Bulk Division. They're based out of the Quebec City area, but they often go down the 20, the 401 and beyond Detroit. Not sure exactly what's they carry, but they did that for years. That's also one of the Transforce operations with the most variations about the equipment used. Really not as standardized as the others divisions trucks and trailers are.

The new logo takes about the 2/3 of the side wall (from the rear to the dummies). I don't have much time to see it was an old or a new trailer, but I suspect that it was a reletttered van.

Update: Mirabel changed its name again. They're nom listed as "Mirabel Logistic" (without the "s"), 7887 Grenache, Anjou. Even if they share their lot with several businesses, Kingsway Bulk is the only Transforce division written on the front sign there and there's no obvious evidence of Mirabel equipment there.

Also, I don't know if one already mentionned it, but Mirald is gone. Today, I realized that I didn't saw a Mirald truck in months and they're not listed anymore in the Transforce operations.

Here's another catch. This very rare JC Germain ex-Papineau open-top van was parked with a scrapper's own flatbeds Saturday morning. I am not sure who own it now, but it is still lettered for JCG at the front.

I "think" that this tractor was  hauling a Mirald trailer. As you can see it was a Besner owner-op; but I'm pretty sure it was the Mirald graphics on the trailer that caught my eye. I took this on December 2 at that Tim Hortons, Boston Pizza, Business Depot location on Dixie Road at Aimco Blvd. in Mississauga. Transport Couture Mack pulling a Fortier-Boostway trailer.
Dam* yellow pylons separating the car from the truck parking spoil the pictures there.

Last week, I saw one of the ex-Fortier/Boostway trailers fully relettered for Epic Express, but I didn't have a chance to take a picture.

Also, nobody mentionned yet, but Thibodeau seems to have relocated its Sherbrooke operations to the TST Overland / Kingsway facilities. It was obvious to expect, but it tooks a little more time to do than Pickering vs Mississauga or Val d'Or.

On the Transforce website, the ICS headquarters address is now listed as Central Parkway West (Canpar's).

Rob, I know exactly what you mean when you mention these pylons. It is like having a 4-wheeler in the wrong spot, a construction cone or a steel pole for the snowplows.

Back home, my old man reports to have seen a Sylvester & Forget tractor pulling a J.C. Germain van. He's sure about the couple and it is not St-Michel neither. I agree that's unusual to see S&F with something else than their own equipment or the ex-St-Michel one.

That trailer cames a few times around here (mostly for pickups in a plastic film plant). It is really not a frequent sight as the classic Daily trailers. It seems to be a trailer transfered from Ontario and now assigned more often in Quebec. The livery is quite unusual and it used the swoosh with the name Daily only (no SELECT-daily). In Quebec, it would be Select or Select-Daily, but the original Select were relettered or sold away very quickly.

Ray, unless it is new, TransX is not part of Transforce (yet?).

Here two pictures of similar trailers coming from my Transforce collection. The first one (serial number 5330011) was taken in 2003 near the Montreal Transforce terminal. The second one (serial number 5330012) was taken in 2006 in Boucherville. It's sad but I cannot read the serial number of the trailer on the poutinepat photo.

For the grey Daily bingo game, here's 5330110:

(http://www.barraclou.com/truck/transforce/tn_daily.jpg) (http://www.barraclou.com/truck/transforce/daily.jpg)

Since it is lettered Daily and not Select or Select-Daily, it should came from Ontario and maybe from a company bought by Daily before the consolidation with Select. My next hypothesis is probably wrong, but could it somewhat related to Japiro/L'Expediteur. Both are grey tridem trailers and if you paint over the green bar by the floor, both are all grey and Daily seems to have something painted over that possible green line.

I don`t recall Daily buying anyone out before they were bought by Transforce.
I saw a trailer years ago with a Cabano Kingsway on the sides and a Daily sticker on the nose.
Would the green go back to the Cabano paint?

Yes it's true, the two green paints are very close to each other

but Japiro became part of Transforce in 2002.Then no relation with the Cabano green paint.

Seems they are relettering a lot of trailers , saw 2 in Brockville last week , were HIGHLAND but the BIG Highland decals were removed off the back doors ( were the new style  gluey outline still visible ) and replaced with a smaller decal  ( tractor door sized )  on the LH door.

Both needed a good wash and the rims were looking pretty sad for fairly new trailers

I saw the curbside door at the front, but after Pascal named Nordique, I also saw that the trailer still got its orange 1.x placard... Nordique is still in business (I saw them like last month), but that picture shows that they seem to split their business with Papineau. Also, what's name is on the tractor: Nordique or Papineau? I seem to read Nordique...

Papineau and Nordique was linked since 1999 when the Papineau Group (Papineau Transport & Location Mirabel) joined Transforce. The same year Nordique Transport was taken over by Transforce and put under the Papineau Group umbrella.During the first part of the decade Papineau,Location Mirabel,Nordique and Lacaille was all under the direct management of Robert Papineau. So it's not a surprise if those divisions share equipments.

Here a photo I took last year of  a O/O Nordique tractor pulling a Papineau trailer,

Yes Pascal,Transport Nordique Inc. was bought by Expeditex in 1982.After the merger of Cabano and Expeditex in august 1987  under the name of Cabano Expeditex Inc.  Alfred Hamel the owner of Expeditex which owns 8.6% of the new company and becomes Chairman of the Board buys back from Expeditex Chibou-Vrac Inc during the Cabano Expeditex merger process in august 1987.Four months later,in december 1987,Chibou-Vrac Inc.,property of M.Hamel, buys back Transport Nordique Inc, from Cabano Expeditex.

Twelve years later Alfred Hamel  sell back Transport Nordique Inc to Transforce  the seven of june 1999.

Rob, that's a nice looking Mack Vision you found.

On my side, my new sighting is not in person, but on tv. I don't know if it is new, but I saw a Canpar (30 seconds?) commercial on BT at CityTV this morning. At this time, it is not on their site or Youtube, but it was something floating ok with the other commercials and using lots of the typical white, red and blue Transforce colours.

Also, a Thibodeau daycab pulling a old Alpine Int'l Transportation trailer left the road last night on the highway 40 in the Quebec City east end. Video: http://vimeo.com/20591280

The original one from Toronto.

I agree all that CityTV/A-Channel dance is quite confusing. When I was living in Ottawa, CHRO wa barking its new name as the New RO and it is now known as an A-Channel. In the West, the cities of Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg were covered by A-Channel, but now it is CityTv I believe. I don't know it is still the case or it changed with the banner, but they were claiming to be the only morning tv show produced in Winnipeg, not out of province.

I don't know. I don't have much more info, but I'll do my best to get more details. I was told that Couture made the deal, but I am sure that the HQ had to give its ok. Maybe they want the acquisition to be directly integrated into Couture rather than create a new standalone Transport TFI corporation to be merged later. It also could be something related to financing, debts and/or taxes.

Early members of the Transforce Group, Transport Cabano and Transport D'Anjou  had important roots in Atlantic Canana. Today some divisions of Transforce, Besner and Highland  have always made important part of their business in Atlantic Canada. If the rumors about Guilbault are right , Guilbault  have for many years a division named Guilbault Atlantic  who work  in the Maritime Provinces. On the other hand, Armour and Hillman are two old family business  from Atlantic Canada. I think it is more natural  for them to  make a deal   than going toward stranger

Guilbault has strong ties with Armour as well.

When I wrote that Transforce is not that present in the Maritimes, I based my comments on the fact that Transforce is not as strong in the Atlantic Canada as it is in Quebec, Ontario and Western Canada. That's sure that family businesses from the Maritimes have a kind of natural attraction between them, but it is somewhat surprising that Transforce is not more present in the region by acquiring local businesses rather than operating there by extending its Quebec activities.

It seems that they're phasing out the original blue Gregoire logo and replace it by the standard Transforce version. The latest step in that process is the new tractors are not just painted with the swoosh logo only, but with the full blue and red swooshes on the truck sides as well.

Very likely an owner-op Charlie; their company tractors are Petes but a fleet type look to them.

About a month ago I saw these International Prostars convoying together. I have never seen a Transforce company haul chips, so it was a surprise to me to see them. From the looks of it I think this setup looks very areodynamic (International prostar, small gaps between the truck and trailers, and the trailers have mounted air deflecters on the head boards).

Rob could this be your sighting of the chip haulers in Mississauga? The company on the door is Bergeron.

Even if I live no more deep in the woods, I still quite a lot of chip haulers en route to the mills around here and I never see them (Bergeron / Boisvert) here.

On another hand, I passed by the Gregoire hub in Plessisville last week and it was quite empty. Just a bunch of damaged trailers remain there. They seem to have it cleared and consolidated all their operations in Drummondville. It would also explain why I recently saw Gregoire trailers without the "Plessisville" part in their original logo. For the ones used the name Drummondville, the number are more and more limited, but it was used on the relettered SAS International equipment. Anyway, they're now using their swoosh logo everywhere they need it.

I noticed that ATS delivers more and more often in my area since a while (about the time Transforce bought them. Before that, it was an unusual catch here.). I don't know if it is related to new contracts (Shoppers Drug Mart?) or because they opened a terminal in Drummondville (in the old Select, then Couture crossdock site). Also, since Select-Daily / Select-Thibodeau is gone, I don't recall to have seen Kingsway covering up the jobs around here. Maybe, ATS is taking some old Select jobs from Kingsway? That's weird.

Did ATS take some Shoppers Drug Mart business away from Canada Cartage/ Tspt Sonar?
It's unusual that Transforce is closing or at least amalgamating so many Quebec carriers into an Ontario one.
I wonder if we will end up seeing trucks that are marked just with the TRANSFORCE name soon.

Post by: barraclou on January 30, 2012, 10:20:00 PM
Here's some update from my neck of the woods. I still see Canada Cartage / Sonar at Shoppers Drug Mart. They even brought a Mel Hall trailer a few days ago (something one never see around here). ATS goes deliver daily (or almost) to the Shoppers Drug Mart store, but they also have another address in the same (main regional) shopping centre. I don't know who exactly, but they use a delivery door next to the food court and Dollarama. The latter got its own door across the mall. It might be something for the optician store. About Kingsway or what it used to be Select-Daily, I saw them once since the closure. I think that the truck doors were still painted for Select-Daily. I continue to keep an eye on that and I hope to get the opportunity to get more info on that.

It seems to be an used Gaudreau truck. Standard Matrec livery is blue and white. It could be a truck transfered from Malex, they got about the same shade of red, but the cab is usually white. Also, the logo (swoosh) is different.

Earlier today, a TAT Express Volvo pulling a IGA tridem turned in front of me, but I was unable to get a picture of it. That's bad to miss such a catch, because I was surprised:
1- to see TAT using a Volvo VN,
2- to see it still lettered for TAT,
3- to see a TAT truck with the Transforce swoosh and
4- to see that IGA trailer pulled by TAT, not Morneau.

So I saw this Loomis Express truck today, formerly DHL, of course.  I figured I should make a picture, so I drove ahead and stopped at a turnoff and got ready.

Yeah, right.

So I am there, cellphone in hand, all set.  There comes the truck.  I point and get ready for a good shot when it happened.

Yes, that is right; my finger touched that space on the screen that makes the picture, too early.  All I could do next was get a shot of the rear-end as it rolled out of sight.

I hate cellphones.

The truck is heading west on Highway 1 in Medicine Hat.  I am parked at the Highway 3 turnoff to Lethbridge.
The truck could be on the way to the local depot a few miles ahead, or it could be on the way to Calgary.

This was the first time I have seen the new livery, apart from the delivery van, also in Medicine Hat, that the driver/owner had decalled himself shortly after the takeover.

Now for the people that don't like to see companies disappear under the Transforce banner, how many of those would be listed under fallen flags now if it had not been for Transforce?  Even though I don't think that would be the case for DHL/Loomis, I do believe that would be so for a number of others.

I am not sure if it was an active or a storage trailer, but a 53 footer was backed to a local plant. On its  front, it was decaled for Lyon International and Papineau on the sides. It was gone before I returned there with a camera. It is quite a long time since the last time I had seen the name Lyon on a truck or a van.

To my knowledge, B & B is still independant at this time. By the way, I saw them pulling an pneumatic trailer earlier this week.  I know that they cross dock Dragon cement powder in Windsor, but I always see them with regular tankers or sometimes with vans. It is too bad that I can't get it on camera at that time.

I noticed a Location BeauJean trailer docked behind the local Sears store. They have the same logo as Location Beaudry had. It looks something like Beaudry owners ended their no-competition period in the contract and restarted over.

In the same alley, there's a new truck line called Greyson Transport. It came out of nowhere. I never really heard of them before I see them on the road, but they started operations with 20 tractors and 50 trailers.  They have a Mr. Gregoire from Plessisville as one of the two owners.  It smells like a rebirth to me...

translated with google........

..........................................
In recent weeks, a new fleet of transport trucks trailers travels the roads of Quebec and the United States ... But did you know that these tow trucks depart from Asbestos?

Transport Grayson was born there a few months ago. Terry Arguin , a native of Asbestos, decided to take on a new personal challenge by starting his own trucking company . To do this, it uses an outside investor , Claude Beauvillier , and they have recently teamed up with Jonathan Gregory . " The project was completed in a few months. We have not done business and went to the fastest level. We were ready to start right away , "says Terry Arguin and Jonathan Gregory . Both have also mentioned that the " red tape" and bureaucracy of starting a new business is a "heavy task and a lot of energy and time," they explain.

Jonathan Gregory , Director of the terminal , is from Plessisville and Claude Beauvillier , lead investor and chairman of the company , remains in Victoriaville . "The sense of Asbestos is important to me , so it was easy to settle here and then it's in the center of Quebec," added Terry Arguin , Director of Operations.

The steps were therefore carried out in collaboration with the municipality to find common ground rent. The three co-shareholders and owners of the company are currently renting land on the site of the late Jeffrey Mine . This is where the 20 trucks and 50 trailers are parked until their departure for the United States . In total the company has created 26 jobs. Twenty drivers in the region and outside are already hard at work . Currently , the company is mainly dealing with a customer established in the United States , Terry and Jonathan enjoying particularly the transport market in this part of the country .

20 blue trucks , recognizable thanks to the "G" applied to their fins , are brand new. At the forefront of new technology, these trucks are also equipped with a bunk, allowing the driver to observe the number of hours allowed behind the wheel.

Of projects in mind

Jonathan and Terry have many plans for the company . They already announced a couple of additional trucks and trailers will be added to the current fleet during the next holiday season. These new vehicles will further develop the network in Quebec and Ontario and carry other types of cargo.

" In two years , we would like to reach the hundred employees ... We have good contacts already and the answer is positive," concluded Terry Arguin .

Just a sighting from last week but it shows, to me at least, how TransForce is merging carriers together.
There was a TST Overland city tractor, an International still in TNT paint, pulling an EPIC Express van trailer. Epic was merged into Kingsway in 2011 or early 12.
I see the local Kingsway city truck pulling an Epic trailer quite often but this is the first time seeing an Overland tractor with an Epic trailer.

Lacaille is operating under Papineau sub-group, since its take over by Transforce in 2005, alongside Location Mirabel and Mirald
( now dropped ).Over the years Nordique and Ganeca was added to the Papineau sub-group.It's the reason why it's usual to
see the equipments of those divisions mixed with each others.

WOW what a shot Wayne. It's a very long time I didn't see an integrated ( truck/trailer ) unit in the original TST Solutions
livery. This International is part of a bunch of 28 units which represented the first purchase of new equipments by TST So-
lutions, the newly-organized firm which was the result of the management buy out of the majority of the TNT canadian ope-rations in 1998.

Those trucks was bilt in early 1998 in Chatham and was powered by Detroit Diesel engines.

I saw one go by last night in the dark along the QEW.
It was a Canpar Btrain heading for their terminal in Etobicoke. The lead trailer was painted for Select complete with Transforce swoosh.
Select has disappeared as separate division hasn't it?
How many B Trains did they run?

I to have seen those Select trains but can't tell how many there are/were. I was thinking they may eventually merge the 2 if they haven't already...
As for the Canpar rigs (Servicing the Etobicoke terminal) they use to be purely Volvo daycabs but have since seen them testing out Prostars and Cascadias :o.

From its Montréal hub Canpar uses frequently Prostar tractors operated by the Trans4 Dedicated division to pull their trailers.

About Select it was already integrated into Kingsway. So probably that Canpar inherited of their pup trailers better suitable
to the Canpar operations than the ones of Kingsway.

Last Sunday, while standing beside Dixie Road in Mississauga, I saw a couple of rather obscure Transforce divisions.
I guess Clarke can't really be described as obscure; it operates coast to coast in Canada and is a big user of domestic containers on the railways.
This container wears the Transfoce logo
(http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc502/CdnBusPhotog/Trucks/t-force%20clarke_zpszxyq9n51.jpg) (http://s1215.photobucket.com/user/CdnBusPhotog/media/Trucks/t-force%20clarke_zpszxyq9n51.jpg.html)

When DHL closed it's domestic operations in North America and retreated to it's International Parcel roots, Transforce bought the Canadian operation. They had the Loomis Courier name in their stable of corporations and applied it to the DHL Canada operation.
This Loomis truck went past and it's trailer was distinctly ex-DHL and for airfreight. The side doors accommodate the "igloo" airfreight containers on rollers.
